Chapter 71 - Interception
The knights surrounding us unleashed an attack magic.
It was called [Ice Spear], a spell that allows for remote attacks by firing an ice pillar.
My brother Baito and Vargas were behind me, but I had to leave it to them to repel the attacks from behind.
Anyway, I turned my attention to the icicle that was flying in front of me, as long and thick as a grown man's arm.
My sword is a hard-fang sword that can be filled with mana.
This sword has a hardening effect when you put magic into it, so it should be able to knock down an icicle.
The problem is to make sure I can do it.
The icicle was approaching right in front of me.
I manipulate the mana that I've developed inside my body.
As a child, I need muscle power to knock down the icicles that are flying towards me.
But muscle power alone is not enough.
In order to intercept every single one of them, I would also need to have good eyesight.
So I decided to use my mana efficiently.
Normally, if I wanted to increase my physical abilities, I would just use all of my mana on Body Strengthening.
This time, however, that would not do.
Taking into account the physical strength with which I had just blown away the peasant soldiers, I filled my entire body with half of the mana that I had created.
I then focused the other half on my eyes.
As I concentrated the magic power in my eyes, my eyesight increased and I could even see others' mana.
I caught the flying ice spear with my improved kinetic vision.
Its movement seemed to be perceived as slow by this fortified me as if it were a movie playing back slowly.
After watching the trajectory of the icicle, I swung my hard-fang sword in the direction it was moving.
With a cracking sound, the icicle fell to the ground.
I did it.
I've never really needed to distribute mana in different parts of my body at once in my life, to be honest.
I think it's easier to concentrate it in one place than to distribute it unevenly.
It's surprisingly difficult to control, but I'm sure I'll be able to shoot down every single icicle that comes my way using this method.
Feeling this way, I stared at the knights with eyes filled with even more mana.
Then I noticed a phenomenon.
It seems that the spells they use have a certain timing for activation.
First, they would huff and puff as if they were breathing in magic power, then they would say the name of the spell, exhale, and fire it.
That's how they used magic.
Once you know that, it's easy to dodge.
Before the soldiers even cast the spell, I can visually see when they put in the mana necessary.
In addition, with my improved eyesight, I knew that it was easier to intercept the knight's hand than the trajectory of the icicle itself.
When the knights fired their magic, they did so with their palms facing us.
You can easily tell where they are aiming by looking at the direction of their hands.
I see.
It's a good idea to have an idea of what you're looking for.
No matter how powerful magic is and how convenient it is to not have to carry a weapon, once you know the logic behind the casting of magic, there are ways to deal with it.
However, it requires a great deal of kinetic vision and decision-making ability.
I just kept on hitting the magic attacks that the knights were throwing at me.
I wondered how many of them I had knocked down.
Finally, the attacks began to subside.
There were icicles lying on the ground all around me.
However, all of them had been knocked down by the Hard Fang Sword without damaging me.
I let out a sigh and looked around more.
It seemed that those behind me had also survived the attack.
Vargas seemed to have activated the same hardening effect on his Hard Fang Sword that I had given him instead of his own big sword to intercept the ice spears.
However, unlike me, he didn't seem to have succeeded in intercepting all of them.
By the way, if I had used 「Shotgun」 to defend against the attacks, the icicles were more likely to be missed.
It was impossible to knock them all down.
However, Vargas was unharmed.
To my surprise, he had used his own body as a shield.
Vargas had gathered his own mana into his skin to increase his defensive power and had deliberately used his own body to take the attacks that his Hard-fanged Sword could not prevent.
He did this so that the ice spears wouldn't fly towards me or Baito-nii.

This guy might be a better guy than I thought.
On the other hand, my brother seemed to be swinging his Hard-fang Swords around in a mess.
Two of them. Baito-nii held 2 swords.
It's what I call a two-handed sword style.
He was going to attack the ice pillars with both of his swords.
However, although he was able to use his amazing instincts to defend himself, he was unable to prevent all of them.
The damage had been done.
The damage was not to Brother Bite himself, but to the Valkyrie that he was riding.
His Valkyrie was pierced by several icicles and was bleeding from them.
After preventing the knight's attack, Baito-nii snapped when he saw it.
"Damn it! How dare you do this to it, you bastards!"
He yelled and ran his beast towards the knight.
"It's not good. Vargas, protect Baito-nii.:
"Oh!"
I saw this and hurriedly gave instructions to Vargas.
But before Vargas could chase after him, Brother Bite approached the knights and slashed at them with his Hard Fang Sword.
Gun!
Such a sound was heard, and the knights' armor was dented.
No, I guess you could say it was shattered.
The metal armor that the knight was wearing seemed to be losing ground to the hardness of the hard-fang sword that my brother was swinging down, and he was hitting the armor as if he was pounding on it, inflicting wounds from the top.
Apparently, even though he's a pre-adult like me, my brother is also stronger than the knight.
Thanks to the magic I had taught him, he also possessed extraordinary strength.
To be honest, I didn't expect that my own strength and my brother's strength would be so good on the battlefield.
Maybe it was because the only comparison I had was the children in the village.
"You don't need my help with that one, do you? Then ......"
Vargas followed up as Baito-nii attacked the knights one by one.
It's probably not going to happen any time soon.
This is the reason why it's important for you to have a good idea of what you're looking for.
The three of us were surrounded by knights who were being commanded by someone who was watching over them from behind.
Raymond, the head of the Fontana family.
CadmarLegend Sorry for the late chapter. I started to work more (almost 12-hour shifts) so I get barely any time to actually translate. Ill be trying to put in a few more chapters in a few days.
BTW, I realize that some of you might be new to the light/web-novel world and might not understand the honorifics I've used so far.
Basically, in Japanese, you usually add honorifics after a person's name to be polite, unless you are close or mocking them.
The honorifics I have used so far have been: -dono, -san, -sama, -nii. I think.
(insert japanese last name)-dono is an honorific that refers to a person who is addressing another one politely. Usually, in web novels, mostly samurai use this honorific.
(insert japanese last name)-san is a basic honorific. You use it to address someone in the same way you would use Mrs. or Ms. or Mr. It is one of the most common Japanese honorifics you will find.
(insert japanese last name)-sama is a very unique honorific. It refers to the person being in a high position and is the most respectful way to call a person. Usually, a lower-level person will use this for a VERY high-level person. Like to kings. Kings usually have -sama added to them. or nobles. However, no king would call his nobles by -sama because it means very high level. Though, the king or his children might use it to respect a very important nobleman.
(insert japanese name)-nii. So, -nii is actually a shortened version of niisan (nii-san). Nii-san refers to an elder brother. it can be used even for a person who is not related to you by blood, but you just refer to them as an elder brother.
Now, see how I did 'insert Japanese LAST name' there? Well, it's because, when in japan and you refer to a person by their first name it must mean that you are close to them. Now, this adds another factor to everything. Always look for which part of a name a character will use for another character and what honorific they give to them when referring to the other character.
You may be wondering why I'm saying all this. Well, in web novels, most of them are more about actions than descriptions. You need to figure out the ways that certain characters speak to understand who's talking at times. these honorifics can help. plus, in Japanese, characters may talk in different ways (how the letters of what they say are written), but it does not translate like that into English. After all, WE don't have 3 alphabets...
Sorry for this rant. just giving you a heads up if you're new to web/light-novels. if you keep reading more of them, you'll eventually get used to it.
