Chapter 100 - Glass Greenhouse
No, no, no!
If I don't do something, my cute little brother will think I'm weird!
I can't let that happen.
At the very least, I have to show Kyle that I'm cool.
With that in mind, I decided to think about how I could further utilize the hot spring.
I had to do something worthwhile to justify the act of drawing hot spring water from the river.
But how is that possible?
I mobilized all the knowledge I had and puzzled over the best way to use the hot spring.

"General, what are you planning to build in this village?"
"Hmmm. It's a good one, Vargas-kun, because this hot spring will bring my long-cherished plans to fruition."
"What's with that tone of voice? Well, I don't know what it is that the general is making, but it's going to get even colder soon. Let's get this over with."
Vargas, seeing that I was overthinking and a little out of sorts, let the conversation go on smoothly.
Let's get this over with.
Vargas, seeing that I was overthinking and a little out of sorts, let the conversation go on smoothly.
I had come to the neighboring village again.
I had brought the hot spring directly from the spring pool in the river to this village.
Using Hardened Bricks, the hot spring water that came through the ground was poured into a large bathtub, like a swimming pool, in this village, for bathing.
This time, we decided to use some of the hot spring water from that pipe to run through another pipe.
First, we built some buildings.
This is no ordinary building, or rather, a building that probably doesn't exist in this world.
I built a series of lattice-shaped columns made of Hardened Bricks.
Then, plate glass was installed to fit into the lattice.
The glass was not only on the sides of the building, but also on the ceiling, creating a glass building where you could see the other side of the building and even the sky.
What I created was a building that resembled something called a glasshouse.
In this climate, it snows in the winter and it is basically impossible to grow crops at this time.

Ever since I was born in this world, I had been wondering if I could get food in the winter.
But it was impossible.
No matter how much magic I used, I couldn't grow anything in the snow.
So why not use glass?
I had thought about that.
If we built a building made of glass, the sun would shine normally during the day.
However, since it has a glass roof, there is no need to worry about being affected by snow.
I had built a small glass greenhouse before.
However, that had ended in failure.
I found out later that there is a definite difference between a greenhouse like a plastic greenhouse and a glass greenhouse.
In the case of glass, heat escapes easily.
During the day, the temperature inside the greenhouse is maintained by the sunlight, but at night, the temperature is almost the same as outside.
In other words, even if you built a glass greenhouse, you could not grow crops properly in the winter because you would still be exposed to extremely cold temperatures.
However, the discovery of hot springs has changed the situation.
The steam from the hot spring can be used to supply heat to the inside of the glasshouse.
In this way, the temperature inside the greenhouse can be kept high even on extremely cold nights after the sun has set.
There may be some problems, such as high humidity, but we won't know until we try it.
I guess you could say it's more of an experiment.
I put pipes made of hardened bricks through the many panes of glass that I had made so that the heat from the hot spring would flow into them.
When I entered the completed greenhouse, I felt that the temperature was about the same as in a bathroom after taking a bath in winter.
It was quite an accomplishment to create a space that maintained this temperature during this snowy season.
Now if only we could find some crops that would grow properly under these conditions, it would be great.
"Vargas, tell the people in this village to grow food in the greenhouse. If it works, it will greatly improve the food situation in the winter!"
"Haha, that's the general! I didn't expect you to create something like this. All right, I'll tell the villagers to take good care of it."
"Thank you."
And so, in the neighboring village, in addition to the hot spring inn, a new and unusual building, a glass greenhouse, was added.
CadmarLegend Oooh... Hardened Bricks are so useful... and I'll be honest... this much building is getting boring... I'm looking for more action... and I think we'll have it in the next 4-ish chapters. Not a full-on plot-churning action phase, but maybe just enough to spice up the plain building so far. BTW, I just realized that Cancellara-san (author) was updating the story with one chapter each day throughout the 1042 parts (chapters/preludes/POV changes/Notes/etc...)... so, the full story that was written was published on syosetu in 1042 days... not a single day was missed, and not a single extra chapter was added in any of those days... I feel amazed at their dedication.
