Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Closer

Shin has been walking towards the direction Kana pointed — no it's Kanae, who was in disguise. She was totally in a career of her current alias that she forgot to tell Shin her real name in this world. 

Shin wasn't in the know that the girl's real name which he carried on his back is Kanae.

Kana colored her hair blonde just for the mission.

Though it was a fail, it wasn't at the same time since she met her crush-cum lover back in her previous world where she and he didn't have closure. 

As if guided by destiny the both of them suddenly met each other. 

These were their initial reactions: 

Shin who first met Kanae felt instinctively familiar with the woman. His guard was lowered and acted a tad bit too familiar with her.

While Kanae didn't believe what her ability showed in her eyes, but shortly later confirmed her suspicions when Shin, her crush showed his attitude towards blonde women.

(A/N: I felt the need to put the recap there to explain their feelings. Why they suddenly became closer because I changed POV. I don't know. Their feelings were slightly vague when I showed them in 1st POV. 

Third POV and 1st POV have their advantages which I just realized after writing this chapter. So, I am going to interchange 3rd and 1st POV in this fic.

3rd when I am going to show both characters' thoughts, reactions, etc.

1st when I'm going deep dive into their personality.

Fifteen minutes have passed since Shin followed the route Kanae told him.

Now they were in a place where the cemented pavement wasn't present but only the soil ground and some tall grasses in the area were around it.

Kanae who was still biting Shin's neck in jealousy about why Shin had cool flashy power while she only had been born with some data gathering ability, stopped what she was doing. She noticed the change in the environment.

"We're close to home Shin." She said, closely in Shin's ears. 

Shin nodded at this and continued walking.

Looking, at the right side of his neck, it was full of bites and hickey marks courtesy of Kanae.

Though he didn't mind any of it. 

He just nodded in response to what Kanae said.

Kanae who was back to normal pulled herself slightly backward straightening her back posture and marveled at her deed.

She was looking at the marks she had made on Shin's neck while having a proud expression plastered on her face.

"Shin, I've marked you. Hehehe ~ You are mine now." Kanae mischievously declared to Shin who was listening to her talking behind his back.

She's happy and proud looking at her deed which made her completely forget about why she was pissed and jealous earlier. 

Kanae and Shin didn't clarify or declared that they love each other, but the way they were acting was like exactly how they did before on earth.

But there was a difference.

Kanae was glad that Shin, compared to before wasn't as dense as a black hole.

She notice that he too liked/loved her and reciprocated her feelings.

She didn't think about saying 'I love you' to him since now that she knew he was aware of her as a woman, that was enough.

Although back in her previous life, Kanae wanted a label for their relationship. Deep inside she wasn't aware that the only thing she wanted was recognition.

For Shin to realize his feelings and recognize that the woman he's been with was not a friend but someone who he loved and who loves him back.

But there is a factor that changes her mindset too after she reincarnated in this world. Native to this world, people don't fret about details or any as such as long as both parties love each other, they were considered as a couple. 

How did she know that? 

There were a lot of regular couples who are like that in the demon slayer corps.

"You sure did. Kekeke ~. So are you satisfied now?" Shin released a chuckle and asked Kanae if she was done marking him.

"Nope ~ I might want to mark you forever. But I'll stop for now since you're neck, the right side is filled with my love marks already. Hehehe ~" 

"..." Shin just smiled at her antics. His eyes were still on the road.

He was walking at the night along the grassy area around his knee tall with the sound of cicadas singing in the background and Kanae's calming breath resounded near his ear. 

A moment later Kanae started a conversation.

"Hey, Shin aren't you bothered about it." Kanae had a serious expression on her face.

"About what?" Shin asked with a neutral tone.

"That I am putting some hickeys on you. I just thought that you might have been turned off towards me by now. Maybe you just didn't let it obvious I see from the way you handle yourself." 

She was now slightly feeling guilty since she had been biting for a long period on Shin's neck.

Though she didn't regret what she did.

She knew that he isn't bothered by it. She just wants Shin's answer to pat her ego.

"Do you want me to tell you?"

"Hn."

"I don't hate it. I'm not turned off. I love it when you are intimate with me. As you said, you can mark me forever if you want to. I'll gladly accept that. I am YOUR man right?" Shin sincerely answered Kanae. 

He said that the last line had a double meaning.

He was talking about himself being her man — The worker. He was hired by her and he would continue as long as he is permitted to.

While, the other one, he meant the man — Someone she felt intimate with. 

He also doesn't know if they were lovers or whatsoever right now. He wasn't giving importance to the 'label'. 

Though he wanted a loving wife others would think that 'wife' was a label but for him as long as the woman he felt intimate with, and also reciprocates his feelings then that was the very definition of 'wife' to him. 

It's not that as long as anyone likes him as a man, in a definite romantic way, he would respond to that person positively. 

He believed that no one would like someone such as him, a 'weird' guy so he was kinda biased about his opinion. She was the only woman around his age he became close to after all.

"Hehehe Is that so?" Kanae as if her earlier guilty expression was faked, quickly changed and giggled happily.

She loved the way Shin answered her question. It made her relieved.

She then once again placed her head on Shin's neck but this time there was no biting, licking, or smooching action. 

She behaved, and just enjoy Shin's neck peacefully while closing her eyes.

It was a far a bit into the distance now, Shin could see a house from 700-800 meters in front.

The house couldn't be seen from his initial position when he started walking on the non-cemented road because there was a slope covering the view from afar.
