I am Rasna fleur, the next heiress to the fleur family. That heiress bit is what the maids tell me, I don't really understand it yet though, maybe I will when I'm older? I'm only 5 after all! I'd ask the maids what they meant, but I've been told by mommy not to ask them questions because it'd make me look dumb.

Revalk takes over my body that has gotten comfy in bed. They quickly get up and tip toe out of my room as quiet as a mouse. They carefully sneak outside the mansion and go to where fire wood is collected. All the servants are asleep, so they easily steal a small log of wood and a carving knife. They then start to carve strange symbols on the bark and carve out a small hole on top. They make a small cut on my finger and put it in the whole they made. The log suddenly hollows out and starts to glow as a flame is started at its center. My face looks like its in pain as the fire starts to burn at a fever pitch, but I feel none of it. Finally Revalk pulls my finger out. The finger looks a little paler, but the cut has been cauterized and the bleeding stopped. A handle has been formed on top of the log. Revalk speaks to me,

[This is a testing lantern. It is used in the right of kindling. Its how demons prove their dominance and become stronger.]

[Rasna thought demons are bad guys that want to kill all humans?]

[They are definitely hostile to humans, but they are also sapient creatures. They have their own culture too, despite how brutal it may seem. Demons are made out of wood so they'll burn up if they use the fire of inspiration like humans do, so they use these laterns. They challenge each other in competitions where the loser will become kindling for the winners lantern. The stronger the flame the stronger the person who owns it.]

[Does that mean Rasna has to beat demons in competitions to become stronger?]

[Correct. Defeat enough demons in the rite of kindling and even though you're human, they'll have to respect you. Get enough strength and you could even become the demon lord, their leader.]

[But demons are bad guys? Wouldn't Rasna still be a bad guy if they lead bad guys?]

[Its merely fighting fire with fire. As long as you are a good guy you can make bad guys good guys if you lead them.]

[Hmm, Ogay! Rasna will believe Revalk and become strong using the lantern!]
