CHAPTER 2

Instead of calling for another Lyft, I decided to take my own tour to the place where I’d get the official tour, if that made any sense. After a half hour of strolling through my new surroundings, I reached O’brien Hall.  I pulled the door handle, half expecting it to be locked.  The door opened easily with a creepy little creak from the hinges.  A woman in her late thirties with long brown hair and brown eyes sat behind a mahogany desk furiously typing on her computer. She wore a blue dress with a conservative neckline. She was attractive for her age, but nothing extraordinary to look at.  She wasn’t quite in the MILF category as of yet.  I stood in front of her for a few seconds before she acknowledged my existence.

“Can I help you?” the woman asked with a sigh. I could see the reflection of a spreadsheet from Microsoft Excel in her eyes.

“I hope so.  I’m here for a tour of the medical school.  I’m thinking of applying.”

The lady looked at me for the first time and cocked a brow. “Do you have an appointment?”

“I do not. Is one required?”  I asked, even though I knew from the sign on the other building that appointments were indeed required.  I hoped my charm and good looks might change her mind about that rule.  They’ve worked for me in the past.  However, I was almost certain this woman wouldn’t be swayed. Older women were harder for me to read.

“Sir, appointments are required for these tours.”

“I came a long way. Is there a slot available, perhaps?  I’m sorry for being a pest. My name is Gage Sullivan, in case you need that.”

The woman scoffed and typed away on her dainty keyboard, then looked at me again.  “There is nothing today, unfortunately.  However, there was a cancellation and I can put you down for tomorrow.  That is the best I can do.”

I could tell that this would be the best she could do.  My charms would not be successful with this woman at all.  I decided to just take what I got. I was the one in the wrong in this situation anyway. “I can do that.  Thanks for checking. What’s your name?”

The lady continued to type, then she wrote something on a small card.  “Tomorrow at 9:00am will be your tour time.  You need to be here at least 15 minutes before.  If you are late, we will cancel immediately your tour.”

I took the small card from her and smiled. I also noticed her lack of a wedding ring.  “Thank you.  I won’t be late.  I promise.”

The lady rolled her eyes and scoffed as her eyes returned to the screen.  “Will that be all?”

“No, I didn’t get your name?”

“My name is Carol.”

“Nice to meet you, Carol,” I replied with a warm smile. My charms were greasing the wheels with this lady.  Her cheeks flushed a bit, and a small, serendipitous smile appeared on her face.

“Nice to meet you as well.  Have a nice day, Mr. Sullivan.”

I nodded with a smile then walked toward the door, then turned back to her.  “Ma’am, what time do I pick you up tonight?”

The lady’s brow furrowed. “Excuse me?”

“For our date.”

The woman’s eyes widened. “Date?”

“Yeah, we can grab something to eat.  You can tell me all about Winterbourne and yourself more importantly.”

Carol was taken aback and coughed. “I... um… no.”

“Are you sure?  I’m a pretty fun guy to hang out with.”

“I’m very sure, but thank you for the invitation,”  Carol replied awkwardly, but I could tell that my invitation flattered her.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, then.  You have a nice day, Carol.”

“I will. Thank you,”  she replied with a much larger smile and a brighter expression on her face.

As I walked out the door, I pumped my fist ever so slightly.  “I still got it.”

Did I really want a date with Carol?  Not really, but she was a pretty woman, albeit much older.  My goal was to see if I could change her demeanor just a bit, and I succeeded. Hopefully, my flattery will make her day go a little better as well. Small things can do a lot.

“Excuse me, Mr. Sullivan.”

I turned to see Carol darting out the door and down the steps to the sidewalk. “Yes, ma’am? Did I forget something?”

“I just wanted to apologize if I was a little abrupt earlier.  I’m not having the best week so far, but that’s no excuse for my behavior. I was completely unprofessional.”

“There’s no need to apologize.  If anyone needs to apologize, it should be me.”

“Why is that, Mr. Sullivan?”

“It was inappropriate for me to ask you out on a date.  I hope I didn’t offend you at all.  I’m sorry.”

I finally got a full look at Carol, and my initial assessment changed quite a bit.  I was wrong… she was smack dab in the MILF category.  The blue dress was shorter than I expected, and it hugged her hips nicely.  The design of her neckline didn’t reveal any cleavage, but her breasts were above average in size.  She was initially a 6, but I would put her at a solid 8 right now.

She placed her right hand on my chest and her left on her own.  “Oh no, I’m not offended at all.  I was just surprised.”

“Surprised? You must get asked out on a regular basis.  I mean… look at you.”

Carol’s face flushed and eyes widened.  “Uh, no, actually.  It never happens.”

“You’re being too modest.  I find it impossible to believe that men aren’t falling all over you on a daily basis.”

“I’m thinking that you are in need of an eye examination instead of a campus tour. You may even need a psychological evaluation as well,” the woman giggled with cherry cheeks.

“I think you are suffering from something I like to call… denial. You are insanely gorgeous. Oh, and I’m being insanely inappropriate again.”

Carol sighed and crossed her arms under her breasts, pushing them up.  She bit her lower lip and looked from side to side like she was trying to figure out something.  “Listen, I can take you on a tour now if you want.  Unless you want to wait for the admission counselors tomorrow.”

“You? Now? That sounds great.”

“Are you sure? This isn’t my job technically, but I went to school here and worked here for many years. I just need to lock up, and we can be on our way. Sound good?”

“It sounds fantastic, thank you.”

Carol smiled and turned her back to me, then made her way to the door.  She put some effort into moving her voluptuous hips.  She punched in a code beside the door and turned a key and made her way back to me with a smile.  Carol was a completely different woman than when I’d arrived.
