[A/N: Felt kinda rushed but will edit and repost later. This would be the last episode for Chapter 2 Is this a secret agency or what]
.
It's been a week since Nonako Rinji got here and has settled in with the group. I, Shimura Vi have been observing him this while but we have to figure out what ability he might have awoken. But I think everything is going well.
Well, we haven't really put his through any harsh training for this period was only meant to help him get acquainted with his teammates. They seem to get along pretty well, other than Ayama, who as usual, has her reservation of others. Inyx on the other hand barely interacts with others due to her special circumstance but from what I am aware ofon the first morning of his arrival, I think they may get along.
Since he has settled today is day I start giving him and the organisation what they asked for.
It's been a week and he hasn't manifested his ability so the higher up ask me to give him some basic training. It may look like we are giving him preferential treatment but that's how it is for most people here. It's more like since there are lots of people with better handle on their abilities the newer ones would need to be brought up to standard and quick. Now with the fact that the creatures are running rampant,
So my job is to get him prepared. He thinks it is that simple. When they think his training is a waste of time they will cut him off and lump him with the rejects. There is another method which could be done. Forceful awakening. But the cons outweighs the pros. For one the targets abilities would be weaker than it is intended compared to a natural awakening. Not unless he would go as far for that.
I got to his door this morning and waited for him to wake up. One thing I have observed is that he is punctual on his time waking up.
You may be wondering what he's been up to this past week. Nothing much. Normal squads only gather at most when they had missions but since they are not, well, like the normal squads they mostly gather there to know each other better and to train.
As their mentor I am a teacher and trainer. But for this kids there's really nothing I can do. This whole organization is no more than a hustle to me.
Six on the mark, the door opens and Nonakon-san walks out. Seeing my figure he gets a bits started.
"Ah… Good morning Shimura-san."
"Morning. Slept well?"
"Yes, yes I did."
"Well I doubt you'd be having any for a while. Go have breakfast and after that… Come with me."
"Ah…"
I turn walking off. He takes a second before catching up.
"Where are we going, Shimura-san?"
"To start your training."
From now on until they see fit he will be in my care. Private lessons which will take basically his hole day with the exception of the tree meals and an hour to speak to his teammates.
Since I don't want any distractions I took through one of the doors. The thing about these door is that on their frames there are buttons on them which by pressing would lead to the corresponding places. But not all places can be taken through the door. Especially personal quarters and far reaching sites. So keys are provided for specific places. So by slothing it in you could get to where you need to be. The sloth are universal any of those keys be through. So I will be taking him to my personal training room where no one can bother us.
As a mentor we also need to keep in top shape. There is a thing as keeping appearance.
"Where are we?"
"Isn't it obvious? It my personal training room."
For a moment I caught that subtle trace on his face. This kid really acts like a pervert. Well, he is amusing on that part.
The size of the mentors' training room is standard. In comparison it's about twice the size of theirs—which is the smallest compared to the other squads. The merits one can attain from your students' growth and your personal missions will determine the luxury of equipments you can have.
I never cared for those. A simple rack for weapons and another and the bare floor and ceiling is good for me. Practicality over unnecessary decor. Everything is just so annoying.
Initially, bringing a new awaken up to standard would take months but yesterday I was called in by the director to start with him on the earliest as to today. The reason was one obvious. Gratuity ad indebtedness. It's more or less a subtle control over the kid. The other half is the need need for more stronger awakening in this battle between the two sides.
I walk over to the side moving my coat and hang it on the coat hanger. I find it rather comforting being in trousers as it allows for free movement in combat, as I am today. I had tied my hair up just for the sessions today and so it will be for the ones to come.
Walking further to the rack I pick up a Bo-staff. My method of teaching is simple, on hands. People learn much faster when under pressure. Even in the state of rejection and panic they pick up on it. So that's how I plan to approach this, whiles giving commentary.
"Pick your weapon of choice."
With the staff I pointed not far away to his side to his side. There sat a weapons rack, though they are different from the set I went to.
He walked over to it. Before it he observed, deciding on what to pick.
"As an awakened, no matter how normal you look or insignificant your ability may be you are blessed with a certain degree of strength. A physic just above that of the normal people. So you should be able to wield it."
His eyes rested on one and he reached for it.

A western type sword. A claymore.
"But wielding a weapon doesn't mean you can use it. Not unless it's a gun. Even with a gun mastery is needed for perfect use."
Moments after admiring he stood on the opposite side away from me.
"I know you are now at this so well take it a bit slow. First feel the weight of you sword. Immerse yourself into it like extending your reach. The feeling should be one of mutual bond between the weapon and it's wielder."
With a nod he grab with other hand as well and lifted the sword, angled up.
"Now come at me." I say taking a stance. The staff pointed forward to my side, both hands gripping.
He has his grip on the sword tightened but he looks hesitant.
"Don't worry they are dulled down."
The sword may look as it is but that it's been made so as to not hurt your sparring opponent that much. Though you have to be careful not to get fatally injured.
Getting an assurance he steeled himself and rushed me. Only to get hit in the side with the staff.
"Argh!"
"Just because I say slow doesn't mean I'm not going to hit you. Don't run head first when facing someone especially one whose weapon has a long reach. It makes your movements predictable."
"Again. Come at me like you want to kill me… Sword arts are no different from dancing, even choreographed ones can be deadly depending on how it is used properly… Your center of gravity is off… Your posture is off…Your grip should be firm…"
He is really slowly. Well what do you expect from someone who has never held a blade before. If you want to know. Yes. I'm enjoying this. After all this is one of the three times I get to release stress. Bathing, fighting those creatures and beating the trainees. I wouldn't spare the rod with every mistake.
So it went with the first half of the first day of training. Consider this a warm up as from tomorrow I'd have to go with muscle training as well. Even with the slight increase in strength it wouldn't be enough to hold the blade. I'd have him swing the sword at full force until he feels his arms are about to break. Then have him do a few more exercises for stamina building and finally teach him how to truly wield any weapon to be part of him so much that it will be on reflex.
His eyes does like to wander a lot. Especially when I decide to make a move. And so I really do well to smack him hard to keep him attentive.
"Plant your feet firmly…"
With that I block a slash with the staff, spin it to hit his leg. Since his footing became loose the sweep made him fall to the floor.
"Ugh…"
He turns over on his back panting. We've been at it for hours not giving him a chance to rest. So his body is already aching from the overexerting himself.
"It… hurt… everywhere…" He spoke between breath.
"The sword speaks volume of its wielder. Do you want to know what I see…" I say stopping a couple of steps away, the staff on my shoulder.
"I see no effort in your sword art. You say you want to get stronger but I don't see you putting the work. It may have only been a week but what have you down since you got here. Nothing but frolic around. Not even trying to get your body stronger. Let's be practical here. I investigated you and from what I see now… You act like a pervert yet you are so afraid to take the risk. I don't know if it's you having a solid hold on morality… but you are a coward. The is hesitation in your movements. If you really intend to get stronger you should overcome your cowardice because it's making you lack intent…"
This is not the thing a lady should say to a kid. Haah! But speaking in a way he would understand makes good progress. Going deep into that talk though, I would not.
Talking really is a pain. They should give this job to someone else.
That day we met with his whole speech now that I think about it just sounded like him trying to convince whoever it was listening.
At least he got what I meant. Probably. Looking at the face he has on.
"Get some rest. We continue in an hour. You must have heard about the team evaluation."
"About… that…"
"The higher up promote a healthy competition among squads." As if there's anything health about that. It's just an farce no matter how you look at it. Ostracizing they weaker ones.
"Anyway It's a month away. The higher up hope to see some improvement by then. Make sure you work hard."
I walked off. I return the staff to the rack before heading for the door leading up.
You know this training ordeal is going to be tedious and long.
