Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Kuro.

"Ahhhh~ the joys of being rich~ Yukio, can you feel the luxury coming from the AC, the comfort of luxury, I tell you." Rin sighed as he took a bite of his ice cream.

"Well, that being that, we would have been fine with a fan as well, like we have done for all the past summers," Yukio spoke as he looked up from the homework he had been doing.

"Not going to refute that, but we are rich from normal people standards and royalty from the exorcist side, so I guess we are entitled to have this bit of luxury." Rin chuckled.

Yukio frowned at that and his fists balled up, he looked at Rin like he was looking at a criminal on death row. Rin noticed this and tilted his head, "was I wrong? The old man was a Paladin right, the strongest Exorcist right?"

Yukio was a bit lost when he heard Rin ask this, but still nodded to confirm Rin's words.

"So, if he was the strongest, he was basically the King, right? That makes us royalty, we are his sons after all, even if he found us in the river as he told us~" Rin chuckled in reminiscence, which made Yukio smile without knowing.

A phone call interrupted the brotherly banter and like always, Yukio was called for a mission. Rin being bored out of his wits found something to do, he jumped on the opportunity and followed behind Yukio.

Rushing to the entrance of the True Cross Academy, Yukio, showed his identification while Rin simply sneaked in. The first sight to welcome them was a group of exorcists trying to subdue a cat sith. The demon was not something they could kill or subdue, only holding back was taking all they had.

Rin could clearly hear the oversized cat wailing, calling them liars and shouting that Shiro is the strongest and is alive. Rin patted Yukio's shoulder, "just let me handle this, considering the relations, he is our brother after all. No one needs to get hurt, I will make sure it's all right."

Yukio turned to Rin and wanted to lecture him to the other side of the earth, but with a single look at Rin's face, he knew that Rin was serious about it and he saw that same reliable look in Rin's bright blue eyes. Yukio nodded but was prepared to take action at a moment's notice.

Rin walked up to Kuro and looked him in the eye, "My name is Rin, I wish I could have met you in better circumstances, but look where fate brought us. They are correct, Shiro is dead, I know how painful it is to know that he is dead, especially for us, who loved him."

Rin walked up to Kuro who was still in his attack mode, ready to pounce. Rin touched Kuro's cheek and placed his head on Kuro's forehead, "well, I guess we sad bunch need to stick together, it's okay to cry, it's okay to be sad, it's going to be alright, we need to live well and one day when we meet him, let's tell him stories of our grand adventure."

Kuro felt his eyes moisten and shrunk into Rin's arms, the little cat shed tears of grief in Rin's arms, while Rin softly caressed his back and whispered that it's going to be alright, like cajoling a child, Kuro fell asleep in Rin's arms, tired from all the stress he had been through.

Yukio and the exorcists were at loss for words, they saw Rin walk up to the feral cat sith and subdue it without shedding a drop of blood, his handsome face had a warm touch and the beautiful blue eyes glowed with a gentle touch to it. Seeing how he was taking care of the cat as if it were a sad child, the women exorcists felt the urge to do something that the doctrine forbids.

Rin looked like the perfect partner, they could almost see themselves in Rin's arms as he pampered them with his warm touch and gentle eyes. Yukio could not help but remember the day when Shiro had tamed Kuro, the uncanny resemblance of methods was something he could only hold in reverence.

But the next moment when he saw the female exorcists acting like lovestruck maidens, he felt a vein pop on his forehead, this damn attention whore does it without even knowing, he did not know whether to look up at his brother for being so awesome or smack his head for being a chick magnet.

The matter was wrapped up and the Okumura brother plus Kuro walked back to the dorms, Yukio was trying to see what the re-engineered canister was. While he was doing that Kuro pounced on his head and then on the canister. Yukio swiftly took it back but found that the cat was hanging from the other side of the canister.

"This smells like Shiro's gift, this is catnip, give it to me, give it to me~" Kuro was bouncing everywhere in excitement, earning a chuckle from Rin and Yukio.

The catnip was served and Kuro got drunk, Rin tried it and found it impossibly unpalatable, while Yukio despite all his unwillingness was forced to try a sip out of the peer pressure, but he splurted it out, making Rin almost laugh his teeth out.

The brothers had dinner and trained, well, it was basically Yukio teaching Rin about the Dragoon Meister, which was basically handling guns and getting to know how to use and maintain them before they got to the shooting part.

Days passed and the brothers got better with the time they spent together training, the first day when Yukio saw Rin draw the Kurikara without flaring the blue flames or his tail coming out, Yukio was so shocked that his eyes almost popped out of his glasses.

Rin had always hidden his skill with the sword or martial arts, but what little was shown here and there was more than enough to let Yukio re-evaluate Rin's strength and capabilities by a huge margin. According to Yukio, it was like skipping a bunch of levels without even grinding.

This gave a lot of pressure on Yukio and made him take training even more seriously, which showed great results. Then came the part where Rin secretly strained with his flames, the whole candle exercise came to play and after a first few hours of agonizing, Rin had managed to get a handle on his flames, earning the right to decide what burns and what does not.
