Chapter 23: Burning heart, cold soul(4)

That night I was supposed to meet the others and Wu to go on a mission but I didn't want to miss the opportunity I was given. The police were looking for Naomi's murderer and I didn't want to risk them getting to him before I did, so I ditched the meeting and went to the address that I got from master.

The address leads me to the edge of town somewhere in the slums. I activated my thermal goggles to see if there were people around. Most of the houses were empty but at the end of the street, there was a warehouse where I could see a lot of heat signatures. I counted about twenty of them. I came closer to the building and I saw people standing guard at the entrances.

'How the hell does a house in the middle of nowhere have so much security.'

It then hit me. The place in front of me was probably a triad hideout. For any normal person, this would be their wake-up call to get the hell out of there, but for me, it was an extra incentive. I wanted to see if all the years I spend training, all the time I spend working on my gear, all the hardship I went through was worth it or not.

I decided to start stealthy and take the guards without the others noticing. I wanted to test my limits but that didn't mean I was suicidal, It was a bad idea to go in there guns blazing no matter how you looked at it.

I keep to the shadows so that they can't see me coming, I sneaked behind, I aim, and fire. Two clicks could be heard and then two thuds. I came to take a look and to see where my darts hit. My marksmanship was as impeccable as always, one-shots in the neck for each of them. I take the bodies and stash them over a wall of the warehouse and in a trash can. I look at them and think that they will have the worst headache of their life tomorrow. I go to another group of people stationed outside and repeat the processes. When I don't see any more guards I go inside. I hear people talking so I come closer to listen and see what they are saying.

"Chen you stupid piece of shit, what did you do!"

I hear a slap and someone sobbing.

"I'm sorry sir, I'm sorry please forgive me."

"Because of you, the police is breathing down my neck."

I come closer and I see Chen on the ground circled by triads.

"What am I going to do with you?! HUGH, HUGH!"

"I'm sorry sir, but.... that woman... didn't want to give me her money... and when I told her I was with you sir... she... she said nasty stuff about you..."

"Whatever since she's a non-bender the police won't care too much. You need to stay under the radar for a few more days, till the police stop the search. You hear me, you're going to stay put till I tell you. You understand. TELL ME YOU UNDERSTAND!"

"Yes sir... I understand... sir."

I take aim, I have five more darts left and there are fifteen more people. I think about it if I should wait for the rest to leave but I decide that I can take them all on so I shoot five of them down.

When they drop panic fills the room.

"What happened, who's there?"

I see the triads gather to protect their boss. I come closer and step out.

"I'm here for the scum on the floor. The rest of you can go."

"You have some guts coming here demanding that I give you that, but I don't take orders from nobodies like you. Kill him, boys."

The goons start to bend fire and water at me. There are six water benders and four fire benders. I activate stage three and with lightning speed, I close the gap between us. I arrive at a fire bender and I hit his pressure points on his left arm to stop bending then I use him as a shield to stop. the attacks of a water bender. I then throw him in the face of the person who just hurt him. I activate the electricity in my gloves and I catch two goons by the face and tease them leaving them to fall on the ground. I then fire two of my grappling hooks in a person's arms and shock him as well.

The others start to organize. In response to that, I throw a flashbang at them and leave them blind from the blast. I then do quick work of the rest.

When I get to the boss I can hear him begging me to let him go.

"You should have taken my offer."

I use my claws to write black lotus on his chest. The police are probably on their way here and they will need to put the blame on somebody when they find them. The wounds I gave them are definitely not from a bender so the next best thing would be to think of the Equalists, but I want this to implicate them as little as possible so I need to give them another stick to chase, why not the black lotus a fictional organization. With this, they would be too occupied searching for this mysterious organization.

I look around to search for Chen and I see him hiding behind some boxes. I get to him and start to punch him. The moment my punch hits him his rib cage cracks. I notice this and turn overclock mode off. I then start to beat into him with ferocity. The more I beat him the more I want to punch, the harder I want to punch. I keep punching till my gloves get bloody and then I hear a shout from behind.

"Freeze. Republic City Police."
