Chapter 36: Into the action(7)

I lied to Nya again... Well it wasn't all a lie, only the part where I said I wasn't expecting this to happen. I thought it would be best to lie about that since if I didn't, it would be too hard to explain how I knew and why I did nothing. I knew that nothing serious would happen to Bolin and this might even be a good lesson to him to stop taking jobs from shady people but I didn't have evidence to support what I already knew.

We got there and waited. Thankfully there were a few restaurants there still open so we went inside to eat. Since we left home just as Nya got back from work and we didn't have dinner. It was a nice change of pace since we didn't eat out in a while we had lots of fun.

"Ethan, wouldn't it be easier to ask Master Wu about where the gathering is going to be?"

"Definitely not! Firstly, when we both retired from talking on missions and started to teach the others we lost a good part of our right to ask details about missions. Secondary, when was the last time you asked master about something like this?"

"I never did, why would I ask him something like this?"

"Exactly, wouldn't it become suspicious if we asked about it and suddenly the avatar and Mako bust in there? This way is safer, we can't show Amon that we aren't on his side anymore, not yet at least."

We waited and finally, the protester came and started to hand flyers. I came to him and politely askes.

"Good morning good sir. What are you doing here at his hour?"

"I'm advocating for equality, I'm trying to make a difference in this unfair world."

"You are truly a good man mister. You're the first person I saw, that has the courage to speak against the unfair benders that rule us, if only more had your courage, if only we weren't alone in fighting against injustice, the world would have become a paradise for hardworking people like us instead of this abomination."

"Brother, we are not alone in fighting for what's right. We the Equalists are many and our numbers are growing by the day, sooner or later the benders shall receive their reckoning."

"Who's going to punish them, with their bending how can normal people like us fight them?"

"Brother they aren't as powerful as they might make you think." He hands me some flyers and says. "The Revelation is happening tonight, come to the place indicated on the back to see the beginning of a new era, a better tomorrow!"

"I will come, brother! I want to see a better tomorrow for me and my family!"

"See you tonight brother!"

I leave and I get on my motorcycle with Nya and we head to the meeting place. We got there before they do so we enter the bakery and buy a few things for them to eat since they are probably hungry for waiting all night for the protester to appear.

"Hi guys, did you find anything useful?"

"Yes, we think that we did. Korra talked with the protester and found something about something called "The Revelation" and we took some flyers with us but that was about it. Did you have better luck than us?"

"Kind of... We found where and when this so-called Revelation is going to take place."

I showed them the back of the flyers and made a map using them. We talked and we decided that we should disguise ourselves before we went the so we went to our place to take a few clothes for Korra since the only outfits she had were too unordinary so Nya borrowed her some of hers.

That night we went to the place on the flyers. It was a big warehouse in the industrial district. We got in easier than expected. Inside there were a lot of people waiting for the show to start.

"Wow there are a lot more people that hate benders than I expected"

"It's not that surprising, benders usually use their power to walk over others."

"That's not true! Yes, some benders are bad but most are good people."

"HAHAHA, Korra I would like to live in your world. Benders are people, and people when given power use it for their own benefit. They don't care about others, they simply care about themselves. The only reason you think that about benders is that most of the benders you have met are good people. Do you think they would let just anybody teach and train with the avatar?  And even with those people didn't you see their arrogance, thinking that they are better than others, they think they are superior to their fellow benders, how do you think they look at non-benders? Do you think they see them as people?"

"I... I don't know. I didn't think about that before..."

"Let me teach you something about this world Korra. There aren't only good and bad people in this world, there are also just people, people that just want to live their lives, that want a better life for their family. Those people gathered here aren't bad people or good people, they just are people. Remember that when you'll have to fight against them."

"We need to find Bolin! Stop talking philosophy and start looking for him!"

"Well, that's pretty easy. You see the stage right there?"

"Yes I see it, I'm not blind!"

"He's going to come on stage in a couple of minutes, where he's probably either going to be executed or something else but just as gruesome."

"HOW CAN YOU BE SO CALM WHEN MY BROTHER, YOUR FRIEND IS GOING TO BE KILLED ON STAGE!?"

"Calm down or someone will hear us. Things aren't as bleak as they might seem at first glance. If we coordinate we can rescue him."

"How do you plan to do that?"

"Well Korra, I'm going to need you to create a diversion."
