After that Reimei’s class and Sunbird’s headmistress went their separate ways, the scarlet-haired beauty not being officially introduced to the high school’s PE teacher until the time came to have a period with him after the lunch break.
‘Aguaro Vivaya, former national champion of Barilia in a number of sports and present PE teacher and combat trainer at Sunbird. Welcome to our madhouse, Reimei!!’ were the first words he said to her after having the Earthlings assembled in two rows in front of Sunbird’s gymnasium. That gymnasium was a standard two-floored building with a rectangular parallelepiped shape, its roof being gray, its walls being the least standard part about it as they were electric yellow with a big black bird painted on the side, having a four-pointed star in its chest.
Focusing on the gymnasium wasn’t going to save Miss Scarlettail from having to answer Mr. Vivaya, however – something she was too timid to do as all the teachers she’d already met, this one included, were even crazier than the students – ending up only responding with a slight bow. And as it happened every time she behaved in such a manner, Hikaru lashed out at her with all the comical grimaces that came along with his fits of rage.
(Hikaru) ‘Answer the man with words, Mei! What the hell’s wrong with you?!’
The mad genius’ shout did startle her, but at this point the newest member of his class had got partially used to his outbursts that occurred all too often, not reacting to it in any way unlike Yuki who wasted no time in crushing her fist in the young Summerbolt’s stomach, being no less comically angry than him.
(Yuki) ‘Maybe if you didn’t pressure her like that every time, she would answer! Don’t forget I’m going to the nurse’s office later, anyway, so I might as well drop your remains there when I’m done with you!!’
As grateful as she was for Yuki stepping up to defend her yet again, Reimei felt something was missing from this picture. And in approximately two seconds the final ingredient was added to the mix: Seiren making fun of Hikaru.
(Seiren) ‘Looks like today’s your day of getting beat-up, Summerbolt! If you live till next year, I’ll have turned it into a whole holiday and we’ll celebrate by taking turns kicking your ass!!!’
Whatever pain the ice maiden’s fist had caused the young bolt, he quickly overcame it to leap at the explosive pervert, making it necessary for the teacher needing to intervene to restore order as usual. In this case Aguaro went over to the rivals, punching each one in the face while Yuki pulled Reimei aside to not get caught up in this fight.
(Aguaro) ‘Cloniiiiiing PUNCH!!!’ – a dozen clones of the PE teacher came out of each of his fists, some restraining Hikaru and Seiren while the rest encircled their classmates with the most threatening of gazes, the original crossing his arms with a sigh – ‘We have serious things to discuss, so just try and stay focused for a bit, OK? If not for yourselves, at least for the newest member of you class.’
Mr. Vivaya’s words seemed to help the young Summerbolt and Blackscale calm down, the two of them along with the others returning their focus on the cloner.
(Aguaro) ‘Right. Reimei, as I said I’m the combat trainer for everyone at Sunbird, but considering it’s the end of the year and your classmates have exhausted their devas plenty lately, I’ll be doing no more combat training with you until the next school year starts. So we’ll be …’
(Exo) ‘Thank the Lord!!! I’m saved! Finally, we can …’
Among his classmates, a single one matched overjoyed techno-genius Exo Drazz’ powerful emotions, but was at the other end of the spectrum – muscle-bound glutton King Orsa seeming to be completely heart-broken by Aguaro’s announcement to a level where he couldn’t control his deva. So he transformed into his giant form with longer and spikier deep orange hair and bright green eyes, crushing and silencing Exo only for King’s wailing to be heard all around instead as he fell to his knees with tears streaming from his eyes and showering all the nearby hot heads.
(King) ‘No, sensei! Why?! How can you do this to us?! Don’t be killing me like this!!! Pleaseeeee!!!’
On the one hand, Reimei was relieved that there was another member of her class who disliked fighting as much as her, though most likely for completely different reasons, on the other being worried that those who were always ready to fight like King could at any moment stir the urges in her. Luckily, some of Aguaro’s clones starting to beat up both the techno-genius and the giant redirected her attention to her surroundings rather than her troubled mind. It now made an impression on her how independent the clones were from the original, their behavior being completely different as the former ones shouted angrily and beat down King and Exo, the latter looking rather sad.
(The Original Aguaro) ‘I feel as bad about this as you, King, but …’
(Aguaro No. 2) ‘Stop interrupting the other me when he’s talking, you little shits!!!’
(The Original Aguaro) ‘… I’ve got some good news for you and not so good for Exo on that point.’
(Aguaro No. 3) ‘There! That ought to shut you both up!! Now stay down!!!’
With the beating coming to an end, Vega Warren, the renowned drunkard of his class, joined the conversation that had started as an explanation.
(Vega) ‘I guess the good news is we won’t have final combat exams with you, sensei?’
(Aguaro) ‘I though you quit drinking until the end of the year, Vega. Those participating in Class Battles are exempt from combat exams.’
(Vega) ‘Hey now. Lawell-sensei said I have to stop drinking, but I haven’t agreed to it yet. And our Class Battle was anything but normal, so I wasn’t sure it would count.’
(Aguaro) ‘Precisely because of the strangeness of your Class Battle Zoran said he’ll start training your class as soon as possible and as the former headmaster, I just couldn’t refuse him. So officially you won’t be having any combat training or exams, but unofficially, it’s up to your homeroom teacher.’
(Reimei) ‘And me, Vivaya-sensei? Am I to participate in this unofficial training?’
(Aguaro) ‘Zoran’s said nothing about that so you’re going to have to talk to him. More importantly, though …’ – he singled out Seiren, his fellow chivalrous pervert Tokura Braveheart and their semi-nudist classmate Rika with his eyes then, at which point the cloner’s whole face lit up, a huge grin forming on its lower half – ‘… I can see the three in your class who’re part of the Swimming Club look all healed-up and since we’ve got a competition at the end of this week, I say we start getting ready right now!!! Our club is the only one that will perform before the Club Presentation Day, so we’ve gotta make it count! What do you say?’
Being rather neutral about the subjects discusses up to that point, Seiren, Tokura and Rika became as excited as Aguaro now, almost jumping at him from joy while shouting with one voice.
(Seiren, Tokura, Rika) ‘LET’S GO, SENSEI!!!’
It was that trio’s classmates’ turn to be unfazed now, only their expressions being much more comical as many even crossed their arms and sighed.
(King) ‘And while you’re training with your golden trio, what are the rest of us supposed to do exactly?’
The PE teacher seemed to have temporarily forgotten there was a whole class in front of him instead of just the three he had focused on, with King reminding him about the rest all he did being to point at the gymnasium with a mildly annoyed look on his face.
(Aguaro) ‘Just get whatever you want from there and play. And call me up only if there’s some serious trouble going on, OK? I’ll need my clones for the training as well, so I leave you in charge of the class, King.’
Simply hearing about the Swimming Club invoked the thought of her water deva in Reimei’s mind and how much she feared it, between that and all the chaos caused by her classmates during PE of which she was merely an observer, the scarlet-haired beauty not realizing when that class ended. Neither did she understand how she had agreed to go along with Yuki to pick up Annabel and Yonira so the ice maiden could give her a tour of the main school building.

That main building had a roof the same color as the gymnasium’s, its walls being wine red, its windows being closer to jungle green than the standard color of glass, in terms of structure having a three-floor front part and two-floor side parts. The sides housed the rooms for Computer Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, the canteen and the nurse’s office while the rooms for each class were all in the front part as well as the teacher body rooms, presentation rooms, Fine Arts rooms and Technology Lab.
To Miss Scarlettail’s eyes it truly was a majestic edifice, the likes of which she had never seen, least of all in her home city of Saraley and even less, in the orphanage where she had been until recently. In fact, she was so entranced by walking down the long cream yellow corridors full of gray wooden doors she realized with much delay she had stopped paying attention to the explanation Yuki was giving her. As they went up the wine red stairs leading to the second floor, Miss Iceflame seemed to notice her newest classmate’s mind was wandering as well, stopping midway and looking at her with a whimsical smile which embarrassed Reimei.
(Yuki) ‘You weren’t listening, were you?’
(Reimei) ‘I’m really sorry. It’s just … this place … Sunbird … it’s amazing. I can’t get enough of it. How clean the corridors are, how many rooms you have, how colorful everything is … even the school uniforms are great.’
(Yuki) ‘That’s quite alright. I fell in love with this place as quickly as you when I first came here and since it’s still fresh for me, I think I understand how you feel better than anyone else.’
(Reimei) ‘I wouldn’t say I’m in love with it or anything like that, but …’
(Yuki) ‘You don’t want to leave.’
There had been a few instances where a person seemed to be able to read Reimei’s mind, but never had someone she’d known for such a short time done that, the combination of this with all the other traits Yuki possessed making the scarlet-haired beauty like her even more.
(Reimei) ‘Yeah.’
(Yuki) ‘Luckily you don’t have to, right? You said you live in the school dorms?’
(Reimei) ‘Yes. And since I’m this close to the school, I can come and explore it at any time – something I’m definitely going to do. But the tour you gave me now really helped, Yuki. T-thank you. For this and everything else.’
(Yuki) ‘Trust me, this means as much to me as it does to you, Mei.’ – she stopped for a moment to look at the pink door with dark purple manuscript letters on it that said ‘NURSE’S OFFICE’ they had reached, the smile on her face becoming more nostalgic now – ‘It was only a couple of weeks ago when Annabel brought me here to be treated by Neana-sensei on my first day in Sunbird. And leading you through the corridors now, I’m realizing what a great journey it’s been so far. I hope it will be the same for you. Well, minus some of the crazy and super dangerous stuff, but you get what I mean.’
(Reimei) ‘I really didn’t know what to expect coming here, but from what I’ve seen so far … I think it’s going to be pretty great.’
(Yuki) ‘So, you coming inside?’
Reimei looked at the door to the nurse’s office, which was perhaps the strangest-looking door she had ever seen, before answering.
(Reimei) ‘I think I’ll pass on that this time. Neana-sensei still scares me a little and just looking at this door, I feel like I’m going to see some stuff inside I’m not ready for. So I’ll wait in the corridor, if that’s OK.’
The white-haired beauty gave her a pat on the shoulder with a wink, knocking on the door after that.
(Yuki) ‘You’re not wrong – this room sure isn’t for everyone. I’ll be right back with those two, then.’
Not long after Neana called Yuki to come in, Reimei heard men’s voices nearby, one of the worst traits of her personality – her curiosity – being roused then, tiptoeing to the corner of the corridor to be able to better hear the subject being discussed. As it happened most of the other times she eavesdropped on people, she heard something she wasn’t supposed to, the significance of the words caught by her ear now being greater than she had expected, however.
One of the voices she recognized as that of Zoran Lawell – her homeroom teacher, the other not being familiar to her, but guessing it belonged to one of the teachers, by the sound of it one younger than Mr. Lawell.
(Zoran) ‘Are you sure?’
(Unknown Teacher) ‘There’s no one with a stronger sensor deva in Deckstoru than me, Zoran, so I think it’s a pretty safe bet I’m right. Aguaro intercepted Annabel’s attack directly, though, so I was on my way to ask him if he felt something strange earlier.’
(Zoran) ‘So you’re saying someone was controlling her via their deva?’
(Unknown Teacher) ‘And that someone must have been close to be able to make her do all that stuff. The only ones around were students and teachers from Sunbird.’
(Zoran) ‘Why would someone make Annabel go that far in a fight against Yonira, though? It doesn’t make sense to me.’
(Unknown Teacher) ‘I don’t know what all of this is about, either. But another safe bet for me is that whoever’s behind it is not done playing their games. And we all need to be careful.’
Zoran said nothing more, going down the stairs with the teacher he had just been talking to, meanwhile Yuki coming up behind Reimei with Annabel and Yonira by her side, the scarlet-haired beauty doing her best to maintain her composure when her eyes met Annabel’s. Hopefully, her fake smile would be enough to fool whoever was potentially controlling the Earthlings’ chief medic in the present.
(Reimei) ‘Are you two feeling OK?’
(Yonira) ‘Just fine. Still waiting for an apology from this bitch, however.’
(Annabel) ‘Keep on waiting, you cubic piece of shit. You’re the one who started it all and I just finished it. If someone should apologize, it’s you.’
(Yuki) ‘If you two are gonna start this again, I’m dragging you right back to Neana-sensei so she can torture you further.’
(Annabel) ‘Don’t worry, Yu. I’ve had enough fighting for today as there’s other stuff to look forward to.’ – now she looked at Reimei with a most inviting smile on her face – ‘Say, Mei, you want to come with my club to the Sunbird Fortress after school today?’
