“ We have come to a difficult decision, that you’re no longer suitable, and able to match our intended future direction here at this company, so we have decided to terminate your contract with immediate effect”

“Are you firing me?”

 “I..I..I wa. wait…wait,wait..am I being fired?” Lin Yi took a step back from Yu Lili’s office desk, crumbling into the seat behind him. “Manager Yu, you’re going too far with this joke…. Is this part when you give me the promotion… Manager Yu, you had me going there for a second” Lin Yi wiggled and wormed unknotting his tie, chuckling as he ran his hands through his black wavy hair. 

A mannequin-silence filled the room. 

Yu Lili’s blood-red nails tapped on the desk as she pulled out of her chair, looming over Lin Yi’s curtain-piled-figure  “Yes,you are no longer our employee, speak to HR about the extra details….I have a meeting soon, you can use this office to compose yourself before you step outside ” Yu Lili left the room like a summer breeze. 

The handrest of Lin Yi’s chair began to creak and bend, rage boiling and tumbling within, like a volcano. “What the f*ck,” His curse tore through the air with lathered spit and venom.  

“Breath Yi…We’ve been down before … Who needs this fucking job anyway” Pacing in the office, he re-tied his tie and patted down his shirt and jacket. At this time, Lin Yi’s phone rang, his lips turned into a crescent moon upon seeing the caller id.

“Babe! You wo..”

“Lin Yi, let’s break up”

The mannequin returned.

Lin Yi stared at the phone that was now bleeping at him with owl-wide eyes and a bucket jaw, before the phone found itself on a room-launched mission into the wall, unfortunately, discombobulating upon landing. 

“What the fuck!” Lin Yi ran out of the office like the four horsemen were hot on his trail. The other colleagues perked their heads around and shook their heads helplessly.

“Poor Lin Yi. He’s a good person, but he’s too straight-edged. He’d be able to get away with it if he gave the boss a gift every new year. Sigh…”

“The old witch has hinted at him a few times, but he didn’t agree”
