Presently, there were only two incumbents of the “Ghost Town Administration”.

The guide, Su Qingxing, of unknown race, was responsible for traveling to the underworld for trials and examining the recently deceased souls, some of whom were brought back to Ghost City and some were sent to hell.

The builder, Zhu Sha, of unknown race, was responsible for creating maps and scripts for the trials in the Underworld. His hobby was watching horror films and reading scary novels, so the worlds he built were also known as “Endless Horror Worlds”.

With the exception of these two occupants of unknown race, the rest of the ghost town’s affairs were largely left to its residents aka the dead spirits.

However, since it was the “Ghost City Management Office”, it was naturally a registered department, and it was not unusual for it to be subjected to surprise inspections or material audits on workdays.

However, the point of abnormality was probably the fact that ……

….his Highness, the legendary God of Death1, personally came to a small ghost city to inspect it?

One must know that the ghost city where Su Qingxing and Zhu Sha were located was only one of the many ghost cities at the entrance to the Underworld.

All ghost cities had their own number, and the number of Su Qingxing’s ghost city was 666. From this number, one could estimate just how many ghost cities existed at the entrance to the Underworld……

“I’m not talking about you, I thought you were being silly right from the beginning.” Zhu Sha sat cross-legged on a chair. His right hand fished out a chocolate bar from the snack tray next to him and sent it into his mouth, “Nobody would want to come to a barren place like the entrance to the Underworld. As far as I know, out of the remaining guides, none of them work as hard as you do, Qingxing. Most of them just fish in troubled waters and spend their days lazily, leaving the dead souls to fend for themselves in the trials.”

“Maybe it’s because they know that no matter how hard they work, there will always be an inexhaustible stream of dead souls and ghosts to be ferried.” Su Qingxing casually took a candy from Zhu Sha’s precious snack tray, “But even if there are many guides, there is only one Su Qingxing.”

“Not every guide is the same either.” Su Qingxing’s mouth curved into a smile, “Maybe that’s what humans call …… a difference in levels.”

“Speaking of which, I really don’t know your exact origin, Su Qingxing.” Zhu Sha snapped his fingers in front of Su Qingxing, “I remember that the conditions for becoming a guide are very demanding. It seems that there are high requirements for bloodlines, the most popular ones should be Niu Tou2, Ma Mian3 and HeiBai WuChang4, right? Which one are you, Qing Xing?”

“……” Su Qingxing glanced at Zhu Sha, “Back at you5, I am just as ignorant of your origins.”

“I’m just a small fry6.” Zhu Sha laughed mischievously.

“Aren’t you different from other builders too, Zhu Sha?” Su Qingxing glanced at the computer on Zhu Sha’s desk. The program running on it was automatically building a new world, “I remember that most builders would only design trial worlds like deserts, battlefields, jungles, etc., and you’re probably the only person who would take the pains to build a proper horror world.”

“Those worlds would be so boring!” Zhu Sha looked at Su Qing Xing with wide eyes, “Even Qingxing would find it boring, right?”

“So the two of us as well as this ghost town….. are unique, right?” Su Qingxing said, reached out to turn Zhu Sha’s chair around so that he could look at the bed and floor, both of which were covered in books, papers and blueprints, “Even the sheer level of messiness in this room is probably unique.”

“I knew you were going to diss my precious room again! I call this order in chaos!” Zhu Sha claimed, but he was soon defeated by Su Qingxing’s eyes, “Alright, I’ll clean it up before the inspectors come ……”

Hearing Zhu Sha bring up the matter of the inspectors again, Su Qingxing had another headache and couldn’t help but ask, “I remember you said on the phone last time that the inspectors would be coming soon.”

“Yeah.” Zhu Sha spread his hands, “But suddenly we got the news that that His Highness the God of Death encountered an emergency, so the inspectors were delayed a bit. Thinking about it, if a bigshot like him has an urgent matter, it might be about the safety of the Underworld or even world peace. It’s not something we, the small fries, can interfere in.”

“Then while there’s still time, I’ll just go on with my work ……,” Su Qingxing’s desire to slip away was exposed.

“Don’t even think about it!”

Zhu Sha poured cold water over Su Qingxing’s thoughts before he could leave, and said, “I heard that this time His Highness Si Shen summoned the guides on a large scale. Even if the guides are in the middle of their work, his Highness will only postpone the reception.”

“……”

Su Qing Xing read between the lines of Zhu Sha’s message—

Even if you can manage to hide the first day, you can’t hide on the fifteenth.

So, a few hours after Su Qingxing returned to the ghost town, the legendary inspection team led by the bigshot arrived on time.

The streets of the Ghost City, which were already silent and unsettling, seemed even more lifeless at the moment. All the ghosts and dead souls retreated into the depths of the Ghost City, as if they were worried that if they got too close to the legendary God of Death, they might simply go up in smoke because they could not withstand the power of that highness.

This was also the first time that Su Qingxing had seen the carriage of death in person.

It was a little different from what he had imagined. What appeared in front of Su Qingxing and Zhu Sha were nearly ten black vintage cars, and standing in the middle was the Carriage of the God of Death.

Many figures in black uniforms stepped down from one of the cars, holding machines Su Qingxing had never seen before, and began to wander around the ghost town, seemingly recording and checking something.

But such a move seemed completely normal to Su Qingxing. It was originally a serious inspection, it would be strange if this group of people really came here to just check out the guides.

“Zhu Sha.” Seeing that the door of the

had already carriage had opened, Su Qingxing immediately poked at his best friend, “Lend me your glasses?”

“Huh?!” Zhu Sha’s expression looked bewildered, “But I can’t see anything if I don’t have my glasses!”

“It’s urgent!” Su Qingxing’s eyes widened, “Don’t you have a phobia of bigshots? It will be better if you can’t see clearly!”

“But I want to see!” Zhu Sha’s eyes widened as well, and he and Su Qingxing both stared at each other with wide eyes, until he finally pulled out….. another pair of glasses from his pocket.

Zhu Sha: “There’s a spare pair, I’ll lend it to you.”

Su Qingxing: “……”

Su Qingxing hurriedly put on his glasses. Although he had never seen the legendary God of Death, there was no way he would want to be recognised by him due to a special reason.

If he was identified by the God of Death …… the subsequent result might just be worse than overworking to the point of being comatose!

Presently, Su Qingxing was wearing a school uniform. He had short black hair, and a pair of ill-fitting glasses sitting on his nose. He considered his disguise to be a very adequate one.

The door of the carriage opened wide, and through the very ill-fitting glasses, Su Qingxing saw a tall figure stepping out of the car.

Long black coat, long grey scarf, even without looking up at the Death God’s features, Su Qingxing could feel the aura of coldness.

Silver hair, black eyes, the features were same as the legend.

This was the first time Su Qingxing saw the face of the legendary God of Death. Although it was extremely handsome, that face carried a sense of seriousness and majesty that was hard to look directly at.

It wasn’t a cold, expressionless face, it was more like the face of a god who looked down at mortals from up above. It was a height one could not touch even after stretching out their hand.

When the God of Death began to walk forward, all the people clad in black uniforms around him bowed their heads respectfully, and Su Qingxing and Zhu Sha were no exception. A second glance at this time was obvious enough to make one stand out in the crowd.

The air around him seemed to stop moving for a few seconds as the God of Death stood opposite Su Qingxing and Zhu Sha.

“Raise your head.” A cold and magnetic voice ordered.

As Su Qingxing subconsciously raised his head, he was even in the mood to think that the Death God’s voice was very nice ……

“My lord has two purposes for coming here this time.” The one who spoke was an old man who had been following the God of Death, dressed in a suit and wearing a monocle. Su Qingxing felt that he had seen this old man somewhere before.

“One is to record the latest data of the various ghost towns.” The old man glanced around, “The other is to find out how the guides are working.”

The very next second, Su Qingxing was directly pushed out by Zhu Sha!

What happened to the promised brotherhood between friends?!

“Race.” Death spoke again, as succinctly and clearly as ever.

Su Qingxing noticed that the one in front of him did not directly ask for his name, perhaps because His Highness the God of Death couldn’t even be bothered to know the name of a nobody like himself.

But …… race?

Even when he was facing Zhu Sha who had worked together with him for a long time, Su Qingxing had never mentioned his real race. He could guarantee that after the God of Death asked this question, Zhu Sha must be snickering behind him, his ears pricked up with the intent to eavesdrop.

But ……

“Ghost Lantern.” Su Qingxing lowered his head and said the answer he had already made up a long ago, “I belong to the Ghost Lantern clan.”

“Ghost Lantern?” The old man who was following the god of death frowned, “Isn’t that just a bunch of lantern carrying brats? Can such a weak race serve as guides to the underworld?”

“Barely.” Su Qingxing smiled politely, “It’s the kind that has just reached the passing line.”

Perhaps because he was wearing the ill-fitting glasses, Su Qingxing always felt his entire body get dizzy when he looked at the god of Death.

The God of Death was silent for a moment and then he simply said two words, “Very well.”

“Number four, record the information for the guide.” The God of Death was, after all, the God of Death, and even if he was willing to do so himself, it was impossible for him to converse with an incumbent of the entrance to the Underworld for a long time due to his status.

When one of the people in black uniforms came respectfully to the God of Death’s side while holding a recording device, he smiled politely at Su Qingxing and the others. Immediately afterwards, the silver-haired, black-eyed God of Death turned and walked away, the corners of his coat flung up, arcing in mid-air.

Su Qingxing was busy providing the relevant information to the black suit, and Zhu Sha also let out a long sigh of relief after the God of Death turned around.

It was impossible for either of them to notice that…… the God of Death, who was walking away step by step, had the corners of its lips curved in a very shallow and light curve.

“My lord, you seem to be happy.” The old man standing on the sidelines, however, noticed this.

“Hmm.” The God of Death admitted without hesitation.

“It’s been quite a journey.” The old man lowered his voice, “We literally walked hundreds of ghost towns and recorded the data for thousands of guides in order not to cause other parties to get ideas, just so that we could meet the Lady.”

“It’s okay.” Death, however, seemed to be in a really good mood, “It’s good now. This is the first time we had a conversation.”

“So …… Are you going to keep that dog’s data?” The old man asked cautiously.

“……” Death was silent for a moment before finally uttering, “It’s a wolf, not a dog. Keep that data; we will continue to use it in the future.”

The old man shook his head helplessly.

In this world, he was the only one who knew how important the future “lady7” was to His Highness, the God of Death.

It was a secret that could not be told, at least not until His Excellency had removed all the unsightly things that were in the way.

And it all began one day, a long, long time ago.
