Chapter 14 – Contact to the royal court with the uncouth daughter
Suddenly feeling a chill, I opened my heavy eyelids. In front of me was the canopy of a luxurious bed.
Through the curtains, I could see out the window, which was now completely dark. It was slightly open, so a breeze could blow in through it.
Remembering what had just happened, I groggily sat up.
"Ugh, my head hurts...... maybe because I hit the wall."
I touched it with my hand and found a bump on the back of my head.
It looks like I passed out in that hallway and someone carried me upstairs to my room.
When I got out of bed, Kelly flew in, looking more impatient than ever.
"Lady Agnes! Are you fine enough to get up?"
"I'm fine for now."
......I'm so sorry I worried you so much.
Kelly is very kind, although she always has no expression on her face.
"Lord Nazelbert was very worried about you. After he brought Lady Agnes here, he was unusually distraught."
"Oh, really? Uhh, I'm so sorry to have bothered you two!"
I had to apologize, so I hurried to the first floor where he was. I found Lord Nazelbert and a strange red-haired boy sitting in the dining room, not in the guest room.
I couldn't make out his face because I had fainted, but I wondered if he was Lord Julian. Must be, right?
Lord Nazelbert noticed me, got up from his chair and rushed toward me.
"Miss Agnes, are you all right? Take it easy."
"Lord Nazelbert, I am sorry for the trouble I have caused you. Also, thank you for carrying me. I'm sure I can manage now."
"Wait, you don't have to apologize. It was Julian's fault for running out of the room without checking ahead."
Lord Nazelbert stared at him, and Julian looked at me with a pout and said.
"Um, I'm sorry... or rather, what kind of joke is this! Is this really the Potato Lady?"
Lord Nazelbert silently tossed a thick book that was on the desk at Julian, who had asked me a question. The book hit Julian right in the face and he fell from his chair.
"Miss Agnes, I'm sorry about my brother. I will discipline him properly."
"Um, don't worry about me."
Just now, Lord Nazelbert, you threw the book at him, didn't you? The gentle Lord Nazelbert did.......
Puzzled, Lord Julian quickly stands up and walks toward me. He is surprisingly resilient.
"Nice to meet you, I am Julian, third son of the Duke of Florescence."
"I am Agnes Evantail. I am very much indebted to Lord Nazelbert."
"My brother has informed me of your situation. I am sorry to involve you in my family's affairs."
"No, not at all. I am sorry too. I know that the Florescences are inconvenienced that Lord Nazelbert and I have been ordered to marry as a punishment."
"T-That's......."
Master Julian was upset, I heard what he said before I fainted.
I thought he was right, too. But......
"I don't feel inconvenienced."
I was corrected by Lord Nazelbert, who stood by my side.
"E-Eh?"
"Miss Agnes, let's sit down for now. I can't leave a bedridden young lady standing. Besides, a messenger from the royal palace came while you were sleeping, and I want to talk to you about it."
"I understand."
The messenger from the royal palace was surprisingly quick.
As I sat down on a chair as he urged me to do, Lord Julian placed a document he had picked up from the floor in front of me.
"This is what was brought by the royal messenger."
"...... It's very thick."
"It describes the actions of the princess, brother's false charges and Robin's conduct. They seem to have looked over it all. And also of the fabrications that will be made public, and the punishment of my brother and you......."
Master Julian's face turned grim and he nodded silently. What should I do? I had a bad feeling.
I was at a loss for words, but this time Lord Nazelbert spoke to me.
"Miss Agnes, that document is too thick, so I will summarize its contents for you."
"Thank you so much, I'll trust you with it."
He opened his mouth as he turned the pages of the booklet.
"First of all, His Majesty acquitted me of all criminal charges. There were several witnesses to Her Highness Princess Mia's bad behavior and to the fact that Robin had seduced her many times. Those who testified that I had attacked Robin were paid and acted out by him and Her Highness the Princess."
"So it was decided that Lord Nazelbert was innocent!"
But then, Lord Nazelbert did not seem happy.
"But...... Her Royal Highness is already pregnant with Lord Robin's child. And many nobles have heard about it. This is a fact that can no longer be hidden."
Indeed, there was nothing that could be done about the child. It would be difficult for Lord Nazelbert to return to be the fiancée of His Highness the Princess after this.
"The information that will be released to the public will be that the princess has decided to give birth to a child of Robin, a special human...... who possesses sacred power for the good of the country. It will be in the form of a royal decree."
"Why?!"
It is a crime to hire someone to give false testimony.
It's strange that Master Robin and Her Royal Highness the Princess are let off the hook for such an act.
