Kimi was having a mental breakdown.
She was having one of the worst days of her life.
The last time she experienced this was when her sidekick was torn to shreds in front of her.
That time, she had to attend days’ worth of psychotherapy to get out of her depressed and guilty state.
When she was going to become broke, her friend gave her a helping hand, offering her a job. It was to take care of her two-year-old son. She was doing a spectacular job of taking care of Aito and being his bodyguard, but when she was slowly getting comfortable with her life and regaining a little bit of color to her dull life, he got kidnapped right in front of her eyes.
Furthermore, she couldn’t do anything other than chase after his kidnappers and eventually fail and get injured due to her carelessness. Making more trouble for her friend.
Guilt crept over her like a viper. She felt powerless, she felt helpless. She felt miserable.
Her sidekick’s figure kept overlapping with Aito’s figure. She kept imagining Aito’s figure being shredded to pieces like her sidekick, she kept imagining Aito’s helpless screams.
She wanted Okabe to berate her for being useless, she wanted Okabe to curse at her, hoping that would make her feel less miserable.
But that didn’t happen. on the contrary, Okabe consoled her saying “you worked hard”.
That didn’t help her, on the contrary, it made her feel more miserable. She felt more awful after being consoled by Okabe.
She felt undeserved for being treated with such consideration.
Her condition was worsening by the second. But she held it all in, returning to her duty to help rescue Aito.
.
.
Then as warm sunlight in the cold winter, the news of Aito’s rescue was heard.
She wanted to help rescue Aito but, she was said to wait with Okabe.
She was anxious but, when she heard, Aito was safe and sound she couldn’t help but release a sigh of relief.
She quickly went with Okabe to bring Aito home, but when she saw all the blood on Aito’s shirt and him crying, she felt her blood run cold.
Taiga said it was his own blood that got smeared on Aito’s shirt, but that didn’t enter Kimi’s head. She thought it was Taiga trying to console Okabe with lies. And her guess was proved right when she overheard the conversation between Okabe and Taiga.
Okabe was pressuring Taiga to tell everything that happened and he did that,
“Aito’s left pinkie was severed, and he had a punch mark on the abdomen. His bleeding was already stopped, he said it was hanging from his flesh when he woke up.”
“Damn those bastards” Okabe’s curses were in low voice but Kimi could feel the anger in her voice.
Kimi could feel her blood pressure rising, not because she was agitated, but because of Okabe’s quirk responding to her emotions, amplifying it. If it was any normal person in Kimi’s place, they would’ve already had a heart attack.
After that, they talked about torture or killing someone, but that didn’t enter Kimi’s ears.
She went to her room and closed the door. She didn’t cry, she didn’t wail. She sat on her bed quietly looking at the empty wall, picturing all sorts of things the four-year-old Aito went through. She started imagining all the worst scenarios.
She looked towards her phone; the wallpaper was a picture of Aito laughing she took.
As she looked at the photo, it started overlapping the scene she imagined Aito went through.
Her guilty consciousness grew heavy.
She couldn’t reason with her imagination running wild.
.
.
She sat there for quite a long while.
Then her phone rang, it was a message from Okabe to bring Aito some food.
Okabe thought it would be better if Kimi brought Aito food since she knew Kimi was feeling guilty over what happened. Okabe thought if Kimi were to see Aito being all right, she should feel less guilty. Okabe knew she had to talk with her friend and console her, she knew she had that duty as her friend, but she couldn’t.
Okabe knew if she went to see Kimi right now, she would explode on her, and it would make her feel worse. So, she chose to stay away from Kimi for now and talk with her later.
Kimi looked at the message for a while before she answered back with a simple ‘Yes’.
She walked towards the kitchen to prepare food for Aito,
While she was preparing the food, she heard the maids on the other side of the kitchen whispering. Kimi had supernatural hearing due to her quirk. So even though they talked in low voices, she could hear what they were talking about.
“Did you hear, young master’s escort Sir Hayato was fired?”
“What? he got fired?”
“Wasn’t he a former pro hero?”
“Yes, I heard after the young master was kidnapped, Madam Okabe lost all her reason and slapped him across the face.”
“I heard Sir Taiga fired him after that?”
“Then what about Kimi? She was also the young master’s escort, right?”
“Nah that won’t happen Didn’t you hear? Kimi was a friend of lady Okabe from the beginning and she seemed to be rather easy-going towards Kimi. She might get a scolding but, she won’t get fired.”
Hayato was a former hero, and he was rather powerful enough. But he was fired, because of not protecting Aito.
Hiring a former hero as an escort wouldn’t be a problem for the Toda family, but culling out the useless ones and finding someone who could be worth the money is difficult.

Kimi realized Okabe was being considerate towards her one more time, through this conversation.
She didn’t utter a single word; she quietly prepared the food and went towards Aito’s room.
She quietly stood in front of the door to Aito’s room, she couldn’t open the door, she wanted to but she couldn’t.
She wanted to open the door and face her young master. But she couldn’t.
She wanted to open the door and see his condition, but she couldn’t.
Other maids passed by her looking at her curiously. She didn’t heed them any attention. She started solidifying her resolve and was about to the door when
*thud*
She heard a sound from Aito’s room, like something hitting the ground. She worriedly opened the door,
Screaming,
“Young master.”
She was startled by the seen in front of her, Aito was writhing on the ground while clutching onto his neck tightly.
“grr”
Saliva was dripping from his mouth as if from a hungry animal.
She let go of the foot trolly in her hand and ran towards Aito. Then she saw him looking at her as if a predator looking at its prey. His beautiful oceanic blue eyes were now red, and it held no reason.
She saw him jumping towards her at insane speed for a four-year-old, but for her it was slow, she could’ve avoided it if she wanted to, but she didn’t. the guilt weighing down on her consciousness didn’t allow her to.
Aito clung to her body like a beast and dig his fangs deep into her neck. His nails were sharpened and that dig deeper into her nape and back.
It stung her quite a bit but she didn’t protest. She placed her hand on his back and started patting him on the back.
She said, “It’s all right, calm down. You can drink all you want.”
She could feel his grip on her slowly loosening.
She roughly understood the situation, his quirk has awakened.
As she was supposed to take care of Aito, she naturally knew the possibility of his quirk awakening.
They had already consulted a specialized doctor regarding this.
She knew that Taiga had to drink blood to stay alive, and since Okabe’s quirk was also blood-related, there was a high possibility of his quirk being blood-related as well. she was informed of countermeasures regarding this situation.
When Taiga awakened his quirk he lost consciousness, and after analyzing his quirk they realized he needed blood to stay alive.
So, she roughly understood that Aito also inherited his father’s traits.
She simply sat down on his bed while he drank her blood, and she kept on patting him on his back to calm him down. Once he calmed down, he directly fell unconscious.
She gently placed him on the bed wiping her blood from his face. Since she had a regeneration factor, she didn’t feel drowsy or anything. She simply kept caressing his cute sleeping face lovingly.
“I’m sorry for being incompetent, for not being able to protect you!”
“I’m sorry for not being there to rescue you.”
“If I wasn’t this useless, you wouldn’t have had to suffer that much.”
Tears started to stream down her beautiful face
“*sniff*But from here on out”
A firm determined expression crept up on her crying face.
“I promise, I promise That I will do my utmost in serving you.”
“I don’t want to be useless anymore. So, please don’t hate me for being useless. *sniff*”
She wiped her tears away with a handkerchief and stood up.
She took out her phone and called Okabe informing her of the situation.
Kimi didn’t realize it but, her sky-blue eyes had a red hue to them, but it quickly went as it came.
