Chapter 14 Full Marks for Both Paper-Based Tests, Computer Simulation for Beginners

It is already cold in the northern city during December. It has been half a month since I have come to the flight college. For half a month, I was in an almost immersed learning state. The birth of a qualifying pilot is by no means simple. There are many things to learn, which are, to a degree, complicated.

Aero-engine principles, air navigation, aerial shooting, automatic control principles, electric and electronic principles, aerodynamics, aircraft structure, flight principles, navigation equipment, and on. Of course, these areas of study are very difficult for ordinary students, but for me, it is as simple as eating and drinking.

After reading up on it, many people believe that the test is easy. They have to in order to cope with it. As for the internal principles, few pilots actually have a deep understanding of them. But in my eyes, it is kind of obvious. I will not have any difficulty with professional knowledge, but what I really need to learn is ergonomics, air control, visual navigation, aviation laws and regulations, air traffic radio communication terms, the use of lights outside of the aircraft, altimeter adjustment procedures, flight atmosphere, flight psychology learning, visual landmark compass piloting, and the flight navigation that is needed for practical flight.

This type of knowledge only needs to be memorized as there is not much of a need to have a deep understanding of it.  The professional and practical knowledge that other people needed a year or even two to complete only took me half a month.

Few people would believe that I finished this fast because of my terrifying speed. Those who can be selected into the Academy are basically people who can be admitted into famous universities. These people’s IQs are definitely not any worse than anyone else, but it still takes them at least a year to gain both professional and practical knowledge. The difference between half a month and a year is easily seen.

In the director’s office, Liu reports to Wanjun.

“President, that is probably the case,” Liu says.

My face shows surprise,” Do you mean that QIn has completed the pilot’s professional and practical knowledge in only half a month?”

“Well, in yesterday’s exam, Chief Engineer Qin even got full marks for both professional and practical,” Liu says excitedly.

There has not been one person who was able to get full marks in both professional and practical skills in all of the years of the academy. Liu was shocked when he received the news yesterday.

“What a guy!” I say, with the surprise in my eyes hardly being concealed.

After thinking about it carefully, I begin to think that this is too normal. Pilots have professional and practical knowledge. Practical operations are relatively simple, and rote memorization is fine.  Many people can get full marks in this. What really stumps students is professional knowledge, which requires in-depth understanding. But it takes someone four or five years to truly understand it.

This is also why many students will be eliminated during the selection and would be moved to other positions. The professional knowledge of a pilot needs to be strong, and many people have fallen below this level.

Qin is different. This guy is the person who developed the third-generation aero-engine. This professional knowledge may be difficult for other people, but in Qin’s eyes, it is probably the most basic knowledge. It is not difficult for him at all. So, with that kind of knowledge, it is possible to get full marks on that test, and rote memorization of practical knowledge will get full marks on the other test.

“How many of this batch of students have entered the simulation training stage of the initial teaching machine?” I ask.

“Four hundred people, nearly a hundred less than last year,” Liu says bravely.

This figure is not high. For the best school of the Daxia Air Force, it can even be considered low. Some other schools that specialize in training pilots are catching up. Sure enough, I cannot help but frown after hearing this.

“How come there are so few. The Third Flying Academy is about to catch up with us.”

“The exams and mock exams are much more difficult than other academies,” Liu says. “If the difficulty is reduced, the acceptance rate will be improved, but the difficulty cannot be lowered, only raised.

I shake my head, “The Air Force is no more dangerous than other military branches. We are not strict now, but we cannot harm these students. I do not care what other schools do, but the exam’s difficulty cannot be lowered.”

My tone is extremely serious when I said that. Turning my head again, I ask, “When is the simulation of the beginner teaching machine?”
“Tomorrow!”

“Has Qin reported in for it?”

“Yes,” Liu says with a nod. “Is the dean worried that Mr. Qin will not be able to pass the simulation at this difficulty?”

“A little bit,” I say solemnly. “The simulation of a beginner’s aircraft is not comparable to a paper exam. The performance of the simulator can largely reflect whether a person is suitable to be a pilot and to fly a fighter jet.”

“I think Cheif Engineer Qin is quite confident. After I told him about the computer simulation  yesterday, he did not seem to be worried at all,” Liu says with a different opinion.

I laugh, “Confidence does not mean anything. Who enters this academy without confidence? Not to mention those who pass the written test, who will have no confidence?”

Liu opens his mouth, embarrassed. This is the truth. No one can enter the novice aircraft simulation that has no confidence. Liu is unable to refute my words. Seeing Liu deflate, I laugh in my heart and think for a while.

“Tell Lun Shun, who is in charge of the mock exam for beginners, that everyone should have ten chances, except for Qin. It does not matter how many times he fails, as long as he is happy.”

“President,” Liu starts, “Isn’t this too obvious? I am worried that the other students will behave negatively.”

“If they have an opinion on the matter, let them come to me!” I say angrily! “Besides, why would they have an opinion on the matter? A country’s most important weapon that developed an engine can’t enjoy some special treatment? Just do as I say. Let’s see who dares to talk nonsense. Also, tell Lin I said hello. That kid does not pay attention to his work and speaks badly. Do not let him say anything bad to Qin.”

When it comes to Lin Shun, Liu really feels that he needs to say hello. Otherwise, knowing that guy’s temper, once he knows that Qin was brought in by the dean and not through a formal exam, he will spew ugly things. Although I know that Lin will still probably do it anyways, we may be able to restrain him.
