Chapter 7 Chief Engineer of the Third Generation Aero Engine

The entire capital is banned from entering a certain space today. In the sky, almost no other aircraft can be seen aside from a few fighter jets and helicopters. Even drones that ordinary people use are forced to land with interference devices.

A helicopter rose in the air and I look at it with interest. In front of me is Zhang Yu, who is sitting upright with a strange look in his eyes. Right now, he does not look like a division-level officer, but rather he looks at me like a subordinate looking at their superior. In any case, he cannot believe that I can make the military hold me in such high importance.

I do not notice Zhang’s gaze, but instead, I study the helicopter. This is the first time I have come into contact with such a vehicle so closely. I would be lying if I said that I am not curious.

After studying the copter for a while, a familiar ringtone from my cell rings out. It is Zhang Qian. I glance down and become a little stunned. A teacher in the student department of the Daxia University of Science and Technology had previously informed me about my withdrawal. This call probably has something to do with that.

“Hello, Teacher Zhang,’ I say over the helicopter’s rotors.

“Student Qin, you… can you hear me over that noise?”

“Teacher Zhang, if you have anything to say, please just tell me. I can hear it.”

I do not mention the helicopter. In fact, I already know what Zhang’s call is about without having to ask him.

“Okay, then I will give it to you straight. I am calling to tell you about the withdrawal procedures. You need to come to the school within the next two days.”

I was expecting the notice about me dropping out, and now it is confirmed. So, when Zhang told me he was going through the procedures, I showed no discomfort. I am very indifferent toward it.

“Well, I see, Mr. Zhang. I will go back and fill out the paperwork when I have the time.”

My tone is very flat. For me, school is just a task to complete. In addition, my mother also knows that I am dropping out. I do not care much.

“Mr. Zhang, it is a little noisy here, so I will be hanging up.”

Zhang is a little dazed as he listens to the beeping sound coming from the phone, and is a little lost.

That’s all?

He originally thought that Qin would not accept the withdrawal. But it turns out that he was wrong. Qin is calmer than he had imagined. It seems that dropping out does not affect him.

“Oh yeah, I almost forgot what the dean said,” Zhang muttered.

Zhang is about to redial, but decided to text since Qin said it is noisy where he is.

I look at the message and reply with a simple, “Thank you!”

Then, I put my phone in my pocket and stare outside for a little while. Zang Yu, who is sitting opposite to me, heard my words and cannot help but ask, “Have you gone through the withdrawal procedures?”

I turn and look at him, “Sort of.  The main reason why I am leaving is that I have not been to class in the past two years, and now I am being dismissed,”

Zhang opens his mouth and suddenly does not know what to say. From the look on my face, he can see that I do not care about dropping out.  I may not care, but the school will have suffered a heavy loss.

An incoming project chief engineer is definitely the greatest honor a school can have, however, they gave up the rights. Zhang closes his eyes and seems to be able to see the regret the institute will have when they find out about Qin’s achievements. They may even go crazy.

…….

In Fencheng where the Second Generation Aero Engine project is being conducted.

Looking at the equipment and instruments of the laboratory, one can see how advanced this place is. Some may even say it is the world’s top R&D laboratory.

In the room right now,  the top scientists of the Daxia Academy of Sciences stride in one at a time. The staff who went back and forth between people are all too happy to verify the identities of the people who come through. The large conference room is already full of people, and all of the top experts in mechanical dynamics are gathered.

The many voices, though speaking to each other in soft tones, is loud. Each person is speaking to those they are acquainted with.

“Old Li, you are also invited by Chen Qi?”

“What the hell are we doing here? Do you know what’s going on?”

An old man with gray hair pats the person in front of him with a little surprise. Lao Li is slightly taken aback for a moment, but then is pleasantly surprised when realization kicks in.

“Old Ren, you’re here too?” Lao says.

“Tell me, what exactly does Chen want with such a large performance?” Asks Ren.

“Isn’t he in charge of the new fighter jets? Why did he gather all of us so suddenly?”

“That’s what I just asked you, but you’re also confused too, it seems.”

Lao is speechless. He was suddenly transferred here, so he is still confused. If it was not for the fact that Chen proposed the meeting, he would have been too lazy to come.

“Whatever it is, it must be something good. How many people want to enter the project under him? This time it may be something to do with the police, and he wants to take some people from among us,” Lao says.

“Don’t put that idea in my mind. I have already inquired about it. The people here are all studying mechanical dynamics,” replies Ren.

“That guy has already encountered difficulties, or maybe he has made some progress, I think…”

The two chat in a low voice, but then Chen pushes the door open and enters.

“Everyone, please be quiet,” Chen demands with a voice full of energy and a serious expression.

All of the people who came today are all his acquaintances, so he dismissed formalities and talked plainly. Everyone’s eyes turn to look at the man. Even Lao, who was just chatting, quickly shut up.

“There is a reason for my calling of everyone here. But before that, everyone needs to sign the non-disclosure agreement in front of you. After signing, we will begin the meeting. You can leave now if you choose.”

At this time, all of the talents rustle open the secret bag in front of them. Inside, a top-secret document is waiting for them.

“Top secret!” Some exclaim.

“It turns out to be of such importance, and it’s at a five-star level of secrecy at that. This is the highest level a confidential agreement can be. It has only been used twice since the founding of Daxia. This…”

After seeing the office-star agreement, many people’s eyes are stunned, and the shock is unbearable. This is the first time any of these people have seen such a security level, even though they have participated in secret meetings before.

Five-star security… This level of confidentiality… Everyone is excited and looking forward to the experience. Even if Chen did not mention the importance, everyone knows. How can anyone refuse such a task in front of them? They will not leave even if Chen drives them out. Even if they must deliver tea and water, many people will flock to the task.

“I think everyone should understand the agreement and have signed. Now, I would like to introduce Qin, the chief engineer of the Third Generation Aero Engine project. I have received news that he has just arrived, so please be patient for a while.

As soon as Chen fell silent, the atmosphere immediately became tense.

“What? The third generation? Aren’t you still working on the second? How did you progress so quickly?”

“Who is this Qin? Why haven’t I heard of this name before?”

As experts in mechanical dynamics, the people present naturally know what aero engines represent. Many people were jealous of Chen for being in charge of the second generation and had hoped to participate in the development. But now, less than three years have passed and the second generation has yet to be built, and Chen is already proposing the third generation.

Everyone knows what this means. The feasibility of the third generation engine being built is extremely high, even higher than that of the second generation. The person who developed such an engine is undoubtedly this Qin, the chief engineer that Chen spoke of.

Thinking of this possibility, many people instantly became in awe of the chief engineer who no one has ever met or heard of. Even if no one knows, this scientist must have been immersed in the field for decades, perhaps one of the few remaining achievements of the Academy of Sciences. So, all of the engineers with high expectations turn their heads, eagerly looking at the door of the conference room, looking forward to seeing this mysterious figure.
