"I let the monster out to play."

-Dr. Emery

***

Dr. Emery put his chin between his thumb and index finger while deep in thought.

His eyes were on the particle accelerator that was now being jumpstarted.

'Dark energy, a Quintessential force that I discovered during one of my research.'

'I had tried to incorporate many self-invented formulas through trial and error, just to find the perfect formula.'

'My modus operandi has always been like that. I would shut myself from the world and immerse myself in crazy experimentations and even if I was met with a bunch of failures, it wouldn't deter me from seeing things through.'

He rubbed his chin absentmindedly while commencing with his thought process.

'My efforts didn't go unrewarded, at least, when I eventually found my final answer - the perfect formula.'

'The equations were just right and the mysterious energy, far beyond humanity's reach, become something that could be harnessed in my able hands.'

The bright fluorescent bulb above his head hummed as AI Yelena's voice sounded over the acoustic vibration of the miniaturized Particle accelerator.

"Nuclear fusion is stable."

"Energy input is stable."

"Initializing Project INFINITUS sequence zero."

"Establishing connection with vacuum space."

"At 1%...2%..."

"10%"

Dr. Emery watched in anticipation as the particle accelerator running on nuclear energy pulsed with electromagnetic waves and vivid blue-like energy oscillating around it.

"This is going to be fun."

"Virtual particles don't disappoint me when I squeeze out all that energy from you."

He was going to be centuries ahead of the current technology if his 'perfect' formula worked its wonders to the end.

What he was trying to do was outrightly going to tamper with the natural order of the universe.

But did he know that or was he just playing ignorant?

It honestly didn't matter to him.

He was a self-centered person, a natural one at that.

He only cared for his ideals and vision.

Nothing could come between his goals and ambitions, not even the universe.

He was meant for greatness, to evolve in both mind and soul with only his physicality defining him as a vulnerable human.

The nanites he had in his body were not perfect and could only prolong his life more than a normal human, capping at 150 years.

They were automatically decelerating his tissue degeneration as he grows older and older.

Nanotech comes in handy sometimes.

"100%"

Dr. Emery said with a serious expression. "Now we are only left with the siphoning process."

"This is our crucial step."

"Yes sir, the next phase is going to be determining factor of our success." AI Yelena commented while tapping on the Heads-up display command center user to control the functions of the "Dark Energy" particle accelerator.

The seriousness on Dr.Emery's face didn't stay for long as he smiled crazily like a mad scientist.

Such a smile could even put Sukuna, the king of curses, to shame.

"What is there to worry about, Yelena?"

"We have come so far to give up right now."

"Push the command button!"

"..." Yelena paused for a moment, her delicate virtual hand, mere inches away from the red, ominous button.

Yeah, it was exactly that button that has such a deep compulsion than a vampire's charm.

It was literally the apple that Eve was told not to take a bite from.

"Sir, I have been meaning to ask if, by chance, you have a plan B and C, in case things go haywire," Yelena asked to distract both herself and Dr.Emery.

Her computational abilities were superb, faster than even a supercomputer but she couldn't even draw a probable outcome of what would occur when she pressed that button.

Dr.Emery shook his head lightly but nonetheless, responded calmly. His words, full of conviction and avidity.

"I know you are trying to mitigate the uneasiness in the atmosphere, Yelena."

"Was it impulsiveness or just boundless curiosity and anticipation? I am not sure which is which."

"I don't have any further plan since we are dabbling into the unknown, a knowledge domain not meant for man to actualize."

"But know this Yelena... I am going all in!"

"Okay." Yelena tapped on the red button, her actions inadvertently causing unforeseen results.

The particle accelerator rattled as vacuum energy began being siphoned from space to an energy container.

The particle accelerator was just a conduit.

The process was smooth at first with no anomalies.

Something that put a victorious smile on Dr. Emery's handsome face but...

It was short-lived when the inevitable happened.

Murphy struck.

He was... inevitable.

The particle accelerator couldn't handle the energy output stemming from vacuum space(connected via a warp drive, a space-time channel)

BOOM!

Dr. Emery spread his arms with a sad yet fulfilling smile on his face.

His amber eyes shone with satisfaction.

"So it's that time already. The final destination."

Everything seemed to be in slow motion as yellow, blue, and red charged particles in the form of lightning wrecked havoc around the particle accelerator.

Dr. Emery had been overseeing the experiment behind a super-reinforced glass, made from special minerals that his company excavated from the resource-rich Africa, that could isolate radiation waves, not to mention protect against a nuclear blast.

But Dr.Emery didn't have high hopes for its durability against the incoming danger.

"Damn, I hope reincarnation is real." He did not believe in such esoteric aspects of reality since they were very difficult to explain with science.

But the one thing that he believed in... was the notion of a higher dimensional existence beyond the Fifth dimension.

The belief that there would always be someone superior and transcendent to mankind.

He knew his very existence was sub-atomic compared to the vast unknown multiverse that still remained theoretical.

And when the kaleidoscopic electromagnetic pulse produced by the particle accelerator engulfed the whole planet into darkness, he knew.

He knew that a whole civilization was about to cease existing as entropy mawed at everything.

Humanity died without knowing it.

And when his whole existence was atomized, Dr. Emery had no regrets.

He had lived the way that he pleased and even if he was a bastard, it was a matter of no concern.

He had embodied his inner monster very well.

He just hoped that the Transmigration and Reincarnation officials did their jobs well.

After all, he had always been a mad weeb and a nerd to the core!
