Chapter 9: Chapter 7: Looming Boom

In the midst of night a carriage pulls off to the side of a dirt road. The carriage is adorned with the main color of black with purple trim along the sides. The inhabitants of the carriage all sport robes of the same color along with the same fairy emblem. There are six robed individuals in all. All of them are wearing hoods which cover their faces. The group quickly descend from the carriage, and start to walk into the woods. 

Delta, the leader of the group, quickly leads them through the woods towards a dark cave. The group remains silent as they enter a massive cave. The cave is large enough to house multiple dragons. In fact, one could fit the entire castle of Arbhor’s capital. Inside of the cave are multiple rooms and hallways which all join the central room. A large black table rests in the central room at the center of the table is a purple Fairy emblem, and all of the seven chairs surrounding it share the same emblem. There are six chairs to the sides, and at the end of the long table is one larger chair with an even larger fairy emblem. Before Delta enters the room he dismisses the other hooded figures.

Once Delta enters the room he quickly notices another figure with the same robe. A man sits on one of the chairs next to the table twirling a black curved dagger in his hand. He is currently not wearing his hood, so his features are on full display. The large man has pointed wolf ears and long hair which goes just below his shoulders. He also has a scar over his left eye which renders it useless. As he has his sleeves rolled up one could see the thick fur which covers his arms and huge toned muscles. The man is a wolf beastkin.

The beastkin looks over to Delta before letting out a bored sigh continuing to twirl his dagger. Delta doesn’t say anything in response to his sigh, simply taking a seat on the opposite side of the table. “How long do I have to wait here before the others show up?” The beastkin asks Delta after Delta is seated.

“The others should be here shortly as this meeting is of utmost importance for our venerable one. Our venerable one’s plans should be our primary focus after all. I am more surprised you are here first, Beta.” The wolf beastkin Beta just lets out a loud sigh in response. “I wish I didn’t have to be here at all. This meeting shouldn’t even be about my duty after all, and I would rather one of the other ones be here over you. Especially the midget he at least makes things interesting. You just keep going on and on about ‘venerable one this, venerable one that’. Do you ever speak without saying ‘venerable one’?”

As soon as Beta finished, Delta loudly slammed the table with both of his arms and started raising his voice. “Is this how you repay the venerable one's kindness!? After she has shown you such tender care, you behave like a little dog biting its own master!? I can’t even begin to understand why the venerable one has shown you such care! She even gave you a seat higher than mine amongst us ‘Phonetic’.... I know, I could just kill you and prove that you are unworthy of the venerable one.”

The table started to shake with the mana being released from delta, and purple wisps began to float off of him. Beta starts grinning from ear to ear in response. “Now this might be fun,” he says, gripping his dagger. The curved dagger slowly starts extending and growing heavier. 

Before either of them could do anything a woman's voice interrupts them. “If both of you were to start fighting, you would only displease the leader. Beta, must you always poke fun at Delta?” Beta just starts laughing as his dagger goes back to its original form. “I can’t help it. It would be boring just to sit here after all. This seemed like the more fun option. Without the midget here I was just so bored.” 

As Delta had yet to withdraw his mana the woman gently placed her hand on his arm after sitting next to him. She was wearing robes like the two of them and currently had her hood covering her face. “You must calm yourself, Delta. Beta meant no harm, and he would never betray our leader.” The woman said gently to Delta, and in response he quickly withdrew his mana back into himself. 

“My apologies Charlie. It is hard to keep my calm when one doesn’t show their gratitude towards our most venerable one.” Delta takes some deep breaths to calm himself. Beta sighs before smiling once more as another person enters the room. “The midget is finally here!” 

The small person who entered the room removes their hood revealing their nature as that of a full blooded orange foxkin with a small snout on their face. The foxkin immediately starts speaking in a squeaky voice. “Hey, hey! When can I make something explode? Leader promised me I would finally be able to make a big explody! I have been practicing and practicing my explosions! I want the next ones to be big! Maybe I could even blow up the capital now!”

Beta just starts laughing at the twitchy foxkin, but Charlie is the first to address him. “Now, now. Take a seat Fox, you will be able to have your explosions soon enough.” Fox looks at her as his head starts twitching to the side. “I don’t want to sit, I want to make something explody now!”

“Don’t you want to be a good Fox and take a seat?” Charlie asks him to which he just rapidly shakes his head causing Beta to laugh again at his antics. Charlie just responds with a long sigh and addresses Beta instead. “Can’t you get him to sit? You are his favorite, behind the leader after all.” 

Beta just ignores Charlie, instead he calls out to the small foxkin. “Hey, midget! Come over here and tell me about your newest Bomb!” The foxkin’s eyes light up, grinning as he runs over to Beta. “This one will make the biggest explosion yet! Beta, wanna see it?” In response Charlie holds her head sighing. 

“You would think about desecrating this place? This very place where we have made our home thanks to the venerable one? You have only recently joined the ‘Phonetic’, and you are already trying to desecrate what the venerable one gave to you. She has given us a place and true happiness and yet, and yet you…” before Delta could finish the air in the room changed warping and bending.

The entire room went silent and Fox quickly sat next to Beta, his head still twitching. None of them dared to speak as a new figure appeared floating sitting cross legged in the air above the largest chair at the end of the table. The figure was that of a little girl adorned with the same robes as the rest of the group, only her robes appeared to be too big for her as the sleeves hung off the ends of her hands. She currently had her hood on, so nobody could see her face. None would speak up before the newest member spoke. They all knew what should happen should they come to displease Alpha. The last time she was displeased resulted in the current vacancy in the Echo slot of the Phonetic. 

Following a yawn Alpha addressed them in a small soft sleepy voice. “Mother dearest cannot be here today.” After a long pause where the only noise in the room was the sound of Fox twitching she spoke again after another yawn. “Mother has already given me the next task to delegate. Mother says it will be Fox’s turn this time.” 

“Will I get to make a big boom?” The foxkin asks. Alpha smiles under her hood. “Mother has told me that you will be able to finally make the biggest ‘boom’. In fact, you are going to make an entire city go ‘boom’.” The foxkins eyes light up and his head twitches even more rapidly. “I will make leader happy! I Will make the whole village explody! There will be a big boom!” 

“Mother knows you can do it. Mother knows she can always count on you to make a big ‘boom’, and mother will be watching you in your task.” As soon as she finished, she let out another yawn before the air warped around her, and with it she disappeared from the room.

A note appeared in front of Fox which he quickly grabbed. Inspecting the note only gave him the name of a city. The foxkin grinned from ear to ear, twitching rapidly. “I won’t disappoint you leader! You will see! Watch me as I make the biggest boom you will ever see! I will make you and me happy! I will make the people of this city part of my newest explosion!”
