Xu Xingxing, who was still in a daze, sat on her chair while Chen Wanwan babbled around her, “I told you that Sister Jialin would definitely not ignore you. Wow! She is really good. You are a new employee, and you have been in the company for less than a year. Good performance can only be scored as an A, and she actually gave you an A+. Xingxing, that is an A+!”

“Yes…I was also caught off guard,” Xu Xingxing whispered, looking at her friend with a grateful smile.

Xu Xingxing was not only startled, but also very pleased with this. This incident meant that Yan Jialin had recognised her talent, in addition to the fact that she could now be considered for year-end bonuses and promotions.

Unaware of what Xu Xingxing was thinking, Chen Wanwan coldly snorted and whispered to her in a low voice, “I spotted Li Miaoxue walking to Lao Huang’s office after seeing the result. I assume he is now coaxing her. Ha ha haa…It’s very satisfying.”

Xu Xingxing grinned along with Chen Wanwan and added a sugar cube to her drink.

Xu Xingxing initially didn’t want to argue with Li Miaoxue, but she started the fight first. She got a “B” result at first because Li Miaoxue had requested it from Huang Qiansong, just to defeat her. Hence, Xu Xingxing felt at ease seeing her be upset now.

After finishing her coffee, Chen Wanwan expressed her feelings by saying, “After a dozen performance appraisals, the year will end. Time just flies away like this. According to what I learned from the Human Resources Department’s Director Luan, a company-wide meeting will be held at the end of the year.”

It was Xu Xingxing’s first time attending the annual meeting, and she was quite interested in this.

A company’s annual meeting was a large celebration conducted at the end of the year. The lucky draw and bonus distribution were the greatest highlights in addition to the performance programmes in this event. IO was a wealthy jewellery company with excellent benefits. Their annual meeting would  usually conclude with a vote session for the on-stage performers.

“The winner will receive a set of IO’s newest jewellery from this year, the one’s whose performance garners the most votes,” Chen Wanwan said.

“Really?” Xu Xingxing commented.

“Yes, oh…you can also participate, Xingxing,” Chen Wanwan abruptly told her.

“Me?” She was startled, she didn’t know why Chen Wanwan was so confident in her.

“You know how to blow the xun!” Chen Wanwan said.

When Xu Xingxing heard it, she replied helplessly, “I can only play one piece.”

“You know, Li Miaoxue can only dance, yet she consistently wins the competition. So register to give yourself an opportunity to shine!” Chen Wanwan encouraged her friend.

However, Xu Xingxing was hesitating from participating in such an event because she lacked self-confidence and dared not stand in front of such a large crowd.

Even though Chen Wanwan had faith about Xu Xingxing, she did not concur. She believed that she would not be able to perform on stage while blowing the xun, and also doubted whether she would find the courage to complete the performance once on-stage.

…………………………..

Xu Xingxing went outside with Yan Jialin for a meeting and only returned when it was time to get off work. As they were waiting for the elevator, Xu Xingxing thanked Yan Jialin for the performance appraisal.

“Sister Jialin, thank you.”

Yan Jialin didn’t immediately understand why she was being thanked and looked at Xu Xingxing a little strangely. But she seemed to realise it after a while, and gave Xu Xingxing a swift glance in response, remarking bluntly, “You deserve it.”

Xu Xingxing was even more appreciative of Yan Jialin after hearing her words. Yan Jialin believed that her skills merited an A+. Praise from the boss made Xu Xingxing happier than anything else in her position.

Yan Jialin drove to the Financial Street after getting off work, parked her car close-by, and entered a western restaurant. She found Sophia seated at a table as soon as she walked into the restaurant.

Sophia, who possessed a good figure and delicate facial features, was wearing a professional suit, with her hair meticulously combed behind her head, looking sharp and neat. She was Yan Jialin’s university classmate. The two of them had majored in different subjects for their master’s degree, but they had joined the same company after graduation, and had been each other’s friends for many years now.

Sophia had also turned 33 this year, and she was currently raising her mixed-race daughter alone after having gotten married to a foreigner.

Yan Jialin approached the table and took a seat. When Sophia spotted her, she smiled and asked, “Why did you get off work later than me?”

She worked as Huai Jing’s secretary and usually left the office after Yan Jialin.

Yan Jialin sipped the juice and declared bluntly, “Had a job outside.”

“Your little assistant also went?” Sophia asked while grinning.

“Yeah.” Yan Jialin nodded.

Sophia pondered for a while and said, “She fits all of your necessary criteria well.”

Actually, Yan Jialin was very pleased with Xu Xingxing because she had excellent professional knowledge, strong psychological qualities, was rational in thinking, and most importantly, didn’t ask too many questions.

“You told me not to care about her at first, but now Mr. Huai has started to ‘intervene’ in her performance,” Yan Jialin commented as she studied the menu.

Sophia sipped her coffee and without changing her expression, added,, “There’s nothing there yet. Mr. Huai won’t allow his thoughts to wander because his house’s ‘mess’ hasn’t yet been cleaned up.”

…………………………….

Both Xu Xingxing and Huai Jing had no additional appointments before Christmas because Huai Wan had stated that she would remain in China till the holiday. So throughout this time, Xu Xingxing was active in assisting Du Yihe in the shop.

Christmas was coming soon, and she bought Kangkang a Christmas present— a plush animal stool in the shape of a dinosaur. She thought the zebras and polar bear shaped chairs she saw in Huai Wan’s study last time were cute, and that Kangkang would like something like that too.

Due to the difficulty in finding a taxi on Christmas Eve, it fell on a Friday this year, and the crowded roads, Chen Wanwan drove Xu Xingxing straight to Jiating Plaza. Jiating Plaza’s underground parking lot had a long line of cars waiting to get parking spots, so Xu Xingxing just opened the door and got out.

Chen Wanwan stopped her and handed her something before she got out of the car.

Xu Xingxing inquired without looking at it, “What is this?”

“Registration form for the annual meeting performances,” remarked Chen Wanwan with a smile.

Chen Wanwan had unexpectedly not given up yet. “Understood, you should go back quickly, and be careful on the road,” Xu Xingxing grinned and replied as she tucked the list into her backpack.

The store had already been decorated for Christmas when Xu Xingxing arrived. It looked really joyful when the miniature Christmas tree’s lights were dragged into the interior of the store from the store’s sign board. These lights flashed in various hues.

Behind the counter stood Du Yizhe dressed in a red Santa hat and apron. The young man, posing as Santa Claus, grinned brightly. Huangfu Yiduo was a reindeer today, dressed in a tight beige suit with a vest on top, black leather ankle boots, and tight pants on the bottom. She had taken it a step further by painting reindeer makeup on her face. She now boasted a pair of large, shiny eyes, and her little nose had changed into a charming, playful deer nose.

With its owner all dressed up, Ah Jin hadn’t been left behind. It was wearing a red Christmas costume and stood beside Huangfu Yiduo. This cosplaying owner-and-dog pair attracted a lot of attention from people on the street.
