Chapter 23: Fight of equals ?

The capital of the Soraus Empire is grand with its library, luxurious inns, manors, and Six Academies. The main attraction is The Castle although I have stayed in a castle the size and grandeur are leagues apart, to be honest, this one looks more like a fort. 

I entered the capital after paying 10 gold coins. There were a variety of shops from the alchemist, Jeweler, Brewer, inscriptions engraver,  Seamstress, Blacksmith, and auction houses which are handled by wealthy merchants. 

I headed straight for the merchant guild to deposit my money but unlike on earth, there are no interest rates instead there is a deposit fee which is a cut given to the guild as a commission for keeping the amount safe as to why I am doing so now and not earlier is because, after the incident in Easter town I realized that I don't have a strong backing and connections if I deposit 10 Platinum coins then I get a black card, with this, I can get discounts at institutions connected to merchant guild and other perks, but the main reason is to give the merchant association a reason to notice me very few people have these black Card, not because 10 platinum coins is a tremendous amount for the royals or high ranking nobles or nobles with a long heritage but these people will not pay because the merchant guild is a force with commoner background, and royals and nobles don't want to disturb the balance of power by associating with a pan Continental organization, Well I need a pan Continental Organization now. And merchant's guild value skilled masters rather than their products. This is also a sort of gambling about whether the merchants guild is willing to take a stand for me against the nobles.

I enter the seven-storied building and reached the second floor which works as a bank the first floor works as an appraising floor where various things are brought to be appraised or sold. 

The receptionist is a look-alike of the receptionist where I got my merchant's guild card previously. Perhaps they are twin sisters anyway it doesn't concern me much but it's a peculiar coincidence. 

Receptionist: Welcome what service may I help you with today. 

Apeiron: I would like to deposit 10 Platinum coins.

 ( Truth be told even if I give away 100 Platinum coins but it would be the tip of the proverbial Iceberg. But I don't want to do so because of economic reasons and I don't want literary pantheons of gods chasing me.)

Receptionist: Thank you for your Patronage here's your new card. 

Well after that I headed out and stayed at a luxurious inn it was one gold coin for one overnight stay. 

During the night after a delicious yet not satisfying meal of little proportions, an assassin with half black half white half mask only covering his nose and eyes suddenly appeared above me holding two daggers of black and white colors just as the assassin was about to plunge the knives down sturdy wooden roots restrain him he slipped into a shadow realm and appeared on the roof of the inn there he saw his target. 

Assassin: How did you appear on the roof. 

Apeiron: A magician never reveals his secret. 

The Assassin had a Job as a shadow assassin this one is a new Job. I think he can travel through the shadow realm safely which is rare, the assassin immediately sprung to action he first threw his white dagger toward my heart and then threw his dark dagger spinning towards my throat I dodged them by sidestepping to my Right the white dagger flew back to him and he used a bright flash spell to temporarily blind me I heard and sensed the spinning dagger from my left side with my thanks to my <Supreme sense> Skill. 

So caught the dagger by its blade rather than the handle because the handle had a good amount of debuff enchantments and a single explosive talisman wrapped around it since I had decided to be low key I didn't catch it because for all I know any no of my potential enemies could be watching this fight honestly I surprised nobody has still found me. The Assassin bombarded me with ninja stars then light and dark element slashes from his daggers from a safe range for one full minute threw a six kunai with an explosive talisman attached to them each I activated my new barrier spell which did its job and held solid against the explosions within the period of the explosion the assassin had vanished, probably with the skill that allows him to walk in and out of the shadow realm unharmed but he did have a lot of battle experience. 

Ok, new priority countermeasures for this guy and Improving the wooden golems' response time.
