6 years later…

Halo sat outside a cafe. He had ordered lemon cheesecake and a cup of bitter coffee while he waited.

He was anxious, it’s been years and reuniting with these people, he wasn’t sure about it but it was necessary; he needed to.

“Halo?” someone suddenly called.

Halo turned around to see who it was, and it was Anthony. He smiled at him and stood up. Giving him a hug, he said, “Long time no see.”

Anthony sat down and looked at him, confused. “Yes, it’s been so long. How are you doing?”

Halo sighed, “I’m stressed but on better days I am alright. How are you?”

“So, so. About average. I’m back at work, but not so crazy anymore,” he chuckled.

The server came over to take his order and when she left, he asked, “So how are you, really? I didn’t get any reports that you were around Romeo anymore?”

Halo sighed. ‘So even after all this time, he is still interested in Romeo?’ Shaking his head he said, “Oh no. We broke up.”

Anthony nodded his head.

“How’s the baby?” He asked.

Anthony scoffed. “He’s not a baby anymore. An asshole who always wants shit from me.”

Halo chuckled, “Well, I’d love to meet him some day. How’s things between you and Niam?”

Anthony sighed. “Not so good. Well, we aren’t together anymore.”

Halo frowned but nodded in understanding.

Surprised, he asked, “Don’t you want to know what happened?”

“It’s up to you if you want to tell me,” he answered.

Anthony nodded his head and left the topic. Things went silent for a moment, then he asked, “So why did you want to see me?”

“We’re waiting for someone. I’ll tell you then,” he answered and drank his coffee.

Ten minutes later, Romeo rocked up in a white tee and blue jeans with white sneakers.

He looked around and saw Halo outside with Anthony smiling and having a chat. His anger immediately grew and realised that he wasn’t over Halo and with Anthony, of all people? Was he going to rat him out now or threaten him again?

He walked up to the table and took his glasses off. “Yo,” he greeted.

Anthony’s eyes widened while Halo’s grew sad.

Halo stood up and forced a smile. “Hey.”

Romeo stared at him for a moment and his heart raced. He could tell that Halo was sad.

Sighing, he reached over and pulled Halo in for a hug. He kissed Halo on the head and said, “After all these years, you’re still so damn shy.”

Halo wiped his tears away and hugged him. He looked up at Romeo and said, “Thanks for coming.”

Pushing him away, Halo said, “Sit down. We have a lot to talk about.”

He sat down opposite Anthony and glared at him. This man was still investigating him, even though he wasn’t on the case anymore.

“What’s this mother fucker doing here?” Romeo asked.

“Please do not fight. I wouldn’t call you both here just to get under your skin,” Halo said.

Both men looked at him as he picked up a bag from his left and pulled out an envelope. Opening it after placing the bag down.

Taking out an A4 sized photo of a little boy with brown skin and green eyes, he said, “This is my son, Juliano.”

“Halo you…” Romeo started. He was so confused. He didn’t know that Halo had a child and how.

Anthony raised a brow. He didn’t know why he was here still.

Halo nodded his head sadly as he wiped his tears away. Forcing a smile, he said, “Even though we broke up after high school, I still went through with the procedure. It failed, but then they experimented on me and during the process is when I slept with the two of you.”

They were silent for a while, then Romeo’s expression changed. He turned to look at Anthony and asked, directing the question to Halo, “You slept with this N***?”

Anthony and Halo frowned.

Sighing, Halo said, “Yes. After I dropped you off at the clinic, I went to visit Niam to see if Anthony was really there and he was. Niam was pregnant with his kid and asked me to have sex with him because the doctor said he couldn’t in order to give the child a chance to live. So yes, I had sex with him.”

Romeo stood up. He couldn’t believe that Halo did this to him. He had wondered why he suddenly wanted to leave him and he never investigated where he was.

Even that Niam didn’t tell him anything.

Halo grabbed his wrist and said, “Romeo please, I didn’t call you to come all the way over here for no reason.”

Romeo looked at him and didn’t know what to do. He still loves him and it felt as though Halo betrayed him.

Sitting back down, he turned his back towards them so he wouldn’t have to face them.

Taking in a deep breath, he continued, “I wouldn’t have called you both here if it wasn’t necessary and important to me. Juliano, my son… he’s in hospital and he is very sick. Juliano’s liver has been failing him for over six months now and we can’t accept anyone’s liver transplantation because he is basically a lab experiment.”

Anthony looked at him, worried. His explanation was leading somewhere and by the sound of it…

Romeo turned around and asked him, “So what is it? You need us to give him our liver?”

Halo stared at him and didn’t know if he was angry or concerned. He nodded his head, saying, “Yes, and I don’t know who his father is.”

“This kid looks like him,” Anthony said.

Romeo looked at him, then looked at the picture of Juliano. He thought the kid was his from the moment he saw it, but now…

“I know he looks like Romeo and I believe he is his child, but the doctor doesn’t think so. I’ve told him that there was no way he could be yours because it was a full five days that we were busy but the doctor said that there could be a chance that Romeo is impotent and because you have a child with Niam, you could be his father,” Halo explained.

Romeo stared at Anthony and saw that the look of shock was melting at the thought of the child being his and he was getting jealous.

He didn’t have a child, so there wasn’t proof that Juliano was his.

“What do you need me to do?” Anthony asked.

Wiping his tears away, Halo turned to Romeo and asked, “Why are you so quiet?”

“What do you want me to say Halo?” He asked.

“Anything,” Halo said

Romeo folded his arms on the table and said, “What do you expect from me, Halo? Shit, I was happy a moment ago, but your doctor has a point. What if he isn’t mine and if he is, what makes you think I’d want to give away my damn liver?”

Halo’s heart beat fast in his chest. His tears started falling again.

He picked up the bag as he wiped his cheeks and took out six plastic cups out that were the size of his palm.

“I need a hair sample, blood sample, and semen. You can go to any clinic or hospital. You have my number when you are done.” He said and got up.

He looked at the one last time, then went inside to pay his bill and left.

Anthony looked at the cups, then took three of them and left after giving Romeo one last look.

Staring at the cups, Romeo sighed. As he took them, he saw that the picture of Juliano was still there. Taking it with him, he went to the car and thought of something.
