An Insectoid about to Have a Family

As he no longer needs to dwell on the characters’ settings or a cover art for the second arc, and with Zhou Xiaobao helping him, Cheng Zhaoci should have done his part quite quickly. Unfortunately, trying to balance love and work has had its adverse effects.
Mostly towards Zhou Xiaobao. While Zhou Luoluo, who’s detailing the little zombie king, is vaguely happily as well, given that, technically, only Zhou Xiaobao is truly single among the three of them – having not an insectoid he’s fallen for, or an insectoid who’s fallen for him as he seldom leaves his home.
When Cheng Zhaoci has gone missing once more, Zhou Xiaobao has had enough… Since he hasn’t really learned how to throw tantrums, he just has his arms crossed and sulks.
“Why the long face? They’re on a honeymoon, you know,” Zhou Luoluo replies, having learned the term ‘honeymoon’ from Cheng Zhaoci. Clearly, he doesn’t know the true meaning of a ‘honeymoon,’ what with Cheng Zhaoci and Wei Zhuo not actually being married, what with Cheng Zhaoci still being a minor…
Regardless, Cheng Zhaoci has ditched work this afternoon. He’s at Wei Zhuo’s place right now, having been registered and allowed to enter Wei Zhuo’s mansion at any time.
He still remembers how Wei Zhuo was blushing a little and slightly nervous but also expectant when he offered Cheng Zhaoci the authorisation. It is almost as if he wasn’t simply giving Cheng Zhaoci the right to visit at any time, but giving him the position of the co-owner of the house.
Cheng Zhaoci figured that part out when he learned soon after that Wei Zhuo is a very independent and territorial individual, as not even his good friend Meng Yuele was ever given this treatment.
Which makes Cheng Zhaoci unique in having this right – so rounding up, he’s a co-owner already, a kind-of spouse.
It’s exhilarating for Cheng Zhaoci.
Although it’s almost nine in the evening now. Cheng Zhaoci has been waiting for Wei Zhuo to come back. It seems something is holding him up.
It’s not surprising, given he is a high-ranking officer in the military, especially with the increased piracy recently. Wei Zhuo has had to work overtime more often lately.
Cheng Zhaoci visited with groceries with that in mind.
It should go without saying, that in romance, one would wish to show off their competent side to appeal. Cheng Zhaoci may not be as good at cooking as Wei Zhuo is, but that’s a high bar anyway. His cooking would not be too shabby compared to the cooking of the average insectoid out on the street, for sure.
So Cheng Zhaoci had the idea of cooking a meal for Wei Zhuo before he gets off work today. Wei Zhuo will come home to a surprise – the light’s are on, and wow, a meal! And a male waiting for him! Homeliness!
Where else but here could one find a more loving male? He should just marry right there and then!
This was about the extent of Cheng Zhaoci’s fantasising when he was at the door to Wei Zhuo’s mansion with groceries in hand that evening. A surprise for him, though, is seeing a shemale soldier sitting there on the sofa in the living room.
… Didn’t even Meng Yuele fail to obtain the right to visit at any time?
The soldier seems as surprised as he is, looking over Cheng Zhaoci with widened eyes, and then at the bag Cheng Zhaoci is carrying.
On the coffee table in front of the sofa, the shemale even has a cup of tea, which he probably brewed himself. He’s sure getting comfortable.
But then he notices that the soldier already has signs of wrinkles on his face. He would look middle-aged for a human, so in insectoid terms, he is already on the last leg of his life – with about 30 years remaining at most.
Though his countenance does not betray his age at all. If Wei Zhuo feels like an unsheathed sword, then this soldier feels like a sharp sword that has been sheathed once more, but still imposing nonetheless.

Put more simply, he’s quite intimidating to behold.
“Greetings, uh, mister?” Cheng Zhaoci and the shemale soldier had a short staring contest, but asked when it seemed like the staring would go on forever.
It wasn’t Lu Yao’s intention to intimidate or glare at the male. He is simply too shocked to react.
When his grandson called him to tell him about how he fell in love with a male, he failed to react at the time. He should be alarmed, knowing what happened to his own son and what that damned bastard of a son-in-law he had did to him, and how this contributed to his grandson’s male-phobic tendencies.
Lu Yao has tried to persuade him that not all males are like that, but it was next to useless.
Wei Zhuo would listen, and then keep an unhealthily large distance away regardless. Add to that the scar he has, and it’s no wonder not a single male is interested in him.
That’s why Lu Yao thought his grandson would end up single his entire life, perhaps sacrificing his life for the Federation on the battlefield in great honour in the end.
Lu Yao himself was a decisive and straightforward shemale soldier when he was younger, but as he got older, he became more melancholic, especially when he only has his grandson left. He can’t help but worry about him a lot.
That’s why the phone call that informed him of his newfound romance astonished him.
And he also can’t help but be worried a male has pulled a fast one over his grandson. He’s already lost his shemale boy once, to a bastard protected by the aegis of the damned Protection Law and wasn’t held accountable to anything.
He cannot possibly stand by if his own grandson would succumb to the same sorrowful path his own son took. After some consideration, he decided to come over to ask in person.
He hasn’t arrived for long before a male just barged in unannounced. This male can already visit at any time?!
And he hasn’t even mentally prepared to meet his grandson’s new target of affection yet!
After Cheng Zhaoci has asked, Lu Yao finally realises the awkwardness of the situation, and answers, “Lu Yao. I’m Wei Zhuo’s granddad.”
Wei Zhuo’s granddad? Isn’t he… oh shit! The Grand Marshal!
The entire insectoid military has only four Grand Marshals, which are under the command of the Chief Commander. Cheng Zhaoci has only ever been a simple citizen in both his lives, and is at a loss at how to deal with bigshots, whether they’re human or insectoid.
“Uh, um, hello! I mean, greetings, sir!” Cheng Zhaoci is woefully unprepared for such a meeting.
It’s like seeing the Speaker of the House all of a sudden, and he is somehow the grandparent of the one you love. It creates enormous stress for him just being there.
Cheng Zhaoci awkwardly moves his arms a little, and remembers the groceries he has on hand, and asks, “so uh, have you eaten yet, granddad?”
Then he immediately shuts the hell up. He isn’t even married to Wei Zhuo! He can’t really call Lu Yao granddad, can he?!
Actually, it feels like he’s overstepping at best or brewing evil schemes at worse with that term of address. He can see the Marshal’s brows furrowing! And he’s stroking his chin with his hand!
And Lu Yao… He was surprised by being called ‘granddad’ all of a sudden.
But Cheng Zhaoci’s clearly flustered form is slightly… cute.
It is just his poker face and Cheng Zhaoci’s mind playing tricks on him that he thought the Grand Marshal has become dissatisfied with him.
