but now, I didn’t find it funny at all. I suddenly realized that I wasn’t actually sure if the man who hopped out of the truck that night was that young man or not. I definitely recognized the truck, but I had forgotten the face of the person who was driving it.
I shut my eyes and tried my best to recall what the truck driver that night looked like, but his face seemed to be playing hide and seek with me. It remained nothing but a blur image in my mind.
It seemed like I was still missing a piece of my memory after all.
Just when I was still struggling to recall, I suddenly received a text message. I looked down at my phone and saw that it was an automated text message. I immediately dismissed it as some spam message from some insurance agent or real estate agent, so I didn’t bother reading it.
Receiving such messages were the most annoying when one was engaged in deep thought.
But after I calmed down, I was about to continue trying to recall the driver’s face when my phone started ringing.
I looked at my phone in annoyance to see that the call was coming from a number I hadn’t saved in my phone. When I looked at the number more closely, I found that it was a very familiar number, but I simply couldn’t place it.
I hesitated before picking up the call. A male voice I didn’t recognize started speaking.
“Did you get the money?”
“The money?” I blinked in surprise.
“Check your phone. You should have received a text message,” he said.

An unexplainable wave of terror suddenly gripped me. “What money?”
“What is this now, pretending that you don’t know? Are you trying to be funny or are you still upset that I didn’t save you that night?”
His words made me even more confused.
“Save me? Save me from what?”
After a brief moment of silence, the man started speaking again.
“It wasn’t my fault, you know. You were so badly injured that your face was covered in blood, but your seatbelt was stuck and you couldn’t get out at all. I thought of using a knife to cut the seatbelt so that you could get out, but a cab was approaching, so I didn’t have the time to do that, plus I didn’t want anybody to find out that we actually knew each other. That’s why I decided to just run off first.”
As his deep voice resonated inside my ears, I felt my entire head spin.
I suddenly remembered where I had seen the number that was calling me right now.
It was the same 11 digits at the back of Dafei’s Car Workshop’s name card.
I hung up in a hurry and went to look at my text messages.
When I saw the message from the bank to notify me that a sum of money had been transferred to my account, I was instantly dumbfounded. All those memories that I had lost for such a long time suddenly all came flooding back to me!
