07 – Guild match

The small machine whirred, making the whole desk shake. The magic that was being transferred from Melina to the small token inside the box was the one thing that differentiated normal items from magic items. In this case, with the authority granted to her as Guild master, Melina was crafting a Tier S token, or Special Tier. The magical signal traveled through the ether, across the web of beacons placed on top of every Guild, every tower and strategically mounted atop mountains and landmarks, until it reached the central node. There, it was registered in something akin to a magical computer system.

A woman looked at the magic text floating in the air. Her tires eyes regarded the request, and she typed something with her mind. All around her, in the white room, countless other clerks were doing the same. Nameless pawns for an organization so big that it spanned the whole globe. And more, the woman suspected. There had to be more, she knew. But it wasn’t her place to ask questions. Her job was to handle the requests of the countless Guild Masters who, unaware of the long series of steps their requests involved, just submitted them without much thought.

“Ishrin, suspect world hopper, flagged as possible threat. GM suggests integration rather than conflict. Asks for a Tier S token without the tracking circuits.”

The woman shook her head. As if she could just give away a trackerless token like that.

She squinted.

“Estimated power level: Tier 15. Obtained in two days using unknown means.”

She shrugged.

The machine stopped. Melina took out the still smoking token from the miniature forge and inspected it. It was gorgeous, better than how guild tokens normally looked. Courtesy of her status, she could customize the Tier S tokens she gave away so that everyone could immediately tell that it was her who issued them. And this, she thought, was her first ever Tier S token. What a day.
