“Wait… You can’t cook?”
“I can’t. Well I didn’t need to. I have a housekeeper at home, and it’s better to leave it to the professionals than to have me do the cooking. Therefore, I don’t see a reason as to why I need to learn how to cook, you know?”
“ “You know?”, you say! Though, you certainly have a point when you say it like that.”
“Wait a minute, you knew that we were going to be living together, right?”
“That’s right.”
“What were you going to do regarding our meals?”
“Meals?”
After saying this and pondering for a moment, Kiryu looks as if she just had a flashback.
“You didn’t expect me to make the meals, did you?
“Well, I had no intention to leave it all to you alone…”
To be honest, I didn’t think too much about it either. Still, I kind of thought it would be good to have a rotation system.
As far as I can tell from what she just said, the current food situation is pretty bad.
“What? It doesn’t matter, does it? Store-bought food tastes good too!”
“I won’t deny that, but what about laundry?”
“I know that if I shove it in the washing machine it gets clean.”
“Cleaning?”
“You don’t have to do it everyday, do you?”
“What about the bathroom?”
“I’m sure you can figure it out with the manual. I’ve never done it before though…”
“What about shopping?”
“I can do that at least. Otherwise, I’ll order delivery.”
Well that’s true. That’s true but…
“You… Didn’t you just say something about ‘fulfilling spousal obligations’ or something like that?”
“It’s not like it’s the spouse’s duty to do the housework, is it?”
Kiryu looks away awkwardly while saying that. Well, it’s hard to do something you’ve never done before.
“Either way, your eating habit is pretty bad.”
“Really? There’s a lot of good food out there, you know?”
“That’s not a very ladylike statement. Do you mean junk food?”
“Good food is good food. And you don’t have to make fun of it just because it’s junk.”
“I’m not necessarily making fun of junk food. You know, but delivery food every day is bad for your body and your wallet, right?”
“I don’t have to worry about my wallet, but… look, there are healthy delivery food lunches now, right?”
“Well, there are…”
That may be the perfect way to manage your nutritional needs… but, well… Hahhh…I guess I don’t have a choice.
“I’m going to borrow your kitchen.”
“Wa~”
“I said I was going to borrow your kitchen. I’m gonna make you dinner.”
“Well you don’t have to borrow it. It’s your house too. Besides, you know how to make dinner?”
Leaving Kiryu in a daze, I open the refrigerator door again. The foodstuffs were lined up as if to say, “Oh, finally, it’s our turn.”
“This is a good sink if you ask me.”
Then I saw the shiny polished sink. There was enough space for even three people to cook at the same time. It would be a waste if you order for delivery food while having a kitchen like this.
“With all these ingredients, you could make a very fancy dinner, you know?”
“R-really? I didn’t know…”
A big sigh escapes Kiryu’s words. Come on, chef. You’re doing the food a disservice!
“Alright then, Let’s start cooking.”
“W-what? I can just go with delivery…”
“No way. Besides..”
I look around in the refrigerator. Hmmm… There are many luxurious ingredients, but let’s go with “that one” since I’m used to making it.
“Could you cut this for now?”
“S-so.. Is it tofu?”
“That tofu is really good. I don’t like to use it this way, but… well, it can’t be helped. Oh, use two-thirds of it and cut it into two-centimeter squares.”
“…”
“Try?”
“Uh-huh.”
I opened the lid of the tofu with trepidation and took out a kitchen knife from under the sink and pointed the handle at Kiryu. Kiryu gripped the knife in the backhand, and pointed it at the tofu. (T/N: It’s holding the knife like how a murderer would hold it. )
“Ei~ Wait a minute!”
“W-what?”
“Don’t point the knife at me! What are you thinking?!”
“S-so, what about it?!”
“You look like you’re going to commit a gruesome murder! That’s not how you hold a knife!
I mean, don’t you at least know how to hold a knife?! Do you even know the basics of cooking?!”
I’ve never seen anyone try to cook with a knife held in the backhand. Are you Chucky?! ( T/N: He’s a killer doll kinda like Annabelle. Movie franchise )
“You aren’t allowed to use the knife! Wash the rice for now!”
“A-alright!”
“By the way, let me tell you something, okay? When you say wash, don’t do that retro Showa-era joke where you try to wash it with detergent, okay?”
‘Would you please not make fun of me?! I know what I’m doing!”
“Really?”
“Of course!”
Saying that, she puffed her chest.
“I’ll put it in the washing machine!” (T/N: No way she’s that stupid…)(E/N: Seriously?… Bakana…)
“…”
“…”
“…”
“Just sit down for now, alright?”
“Hai…”
Kiryu looks a little dejected. As I watched her with the eyes of a grandfather watching his grandchild, she slumped her shoulders and sat down on a chair.
Ugh, back to cooking!
First, cut the tofu into 2 cm cubes and place them in the microwave for two minutes. It’s quicker to drain the tofu after it’s done.

Cut up the pork, bacon, and onions from the refrigerator and put them in a pot with butter. Meanwhile, wash rice and put it in the rice cooker. Check that the rice has changed color and sprinkle a little soy sauce on it.
“Hey?”
“What is it? Ojou-sama who can’t cook?”
“This is the most “irritated” I have been in my life. Urghhhh. I’m so humiliated.”
“So? Did you come here to say that you hate me?”
“N-no! What are you going to make with that?”
“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, huh?”
“What do you mean wait and see, wa- tell me!”
“Don’t worry about it. And I nearly forgot, is there anything you don’t like to eat?”
“N-nothing!”
As I said this, Kiryu sounded uneasy seeing the object held in my hand. The object chosen was a whole can of tomatoes.
“Alright then.”
Add canned tomatoes and soup stock, season with soy sauce, salt and pepper, and finally thicken with potato starch… Yes, it’s ready. The rice is also nearly done.
“I’m going to borrow a plate.”
“S-sure.”
The first thing to do is to put it on a big platter and present it in front of Kiryu. A man’s cooking should be this good!
“What? What is this?”
“It’s Italian mapo tofu.”
“Italian mapo tofu?”
“Yes. It doesn’t take a lot of time and ingredients, so it’s quick and easy to make. Eat it before it gets cold.”
I put the rice in front of Kiryu. She hesitated to put her chopsticks (what? Isn’t that rude?) Kiryu, however, eventually decided to eat it.
“……? What is this? It’s delicious!”
“Right?”
Kiryu smiles, and I smile too. This Italian Mapo Tofu is easy to make and tastes great. Please give it a try! (T/N: Time to make tofu bois )
“But I’m surprised. You can cook?”
“I’m not as good as you think I am though.”
“Really? I think the food tastes really good.”
‘As you know, my family is a small to medium sized micro business. My dad is the president and my mom is the accounting director… Well, they both work. So we have a little time together, and there were still times when my mom wasn’t around. So I used to cook for my sister. If I didn’t make it myself, there would be no food after all.”
“If you don’t have food, why don’t you just ask for it?”
“We didn’t have money either.”
Where’s Lady Antoinette? Ah, I see. The Ayane ojou-sama of the Kiryu family, huh?
(T/N: Marie Antoinette was a Queen of France and when she heard that the poor didn’t have bread to eat she famously stated “Let them eat cake!”. Basically an extremely oblivious and worthless Queen. She got beheaded in the French Revolution lol. Hiro is pointing out their similarity)
“Besides, you have a sister?”
“She’s one year younger than me. Her name is Akane.”
“I see. A highschool student?”
“Yeah. She stays at the main house in Higashi Kujo and goes to high school in the Kyoto area.”
“Was there some kind of a complication?”
Seeing Kiryu’s face, I laugh and wave my hand “No, no” at her.
“There wasn’t. She plays basketball, right? So she thought “I could get much better at basketball if I go to a good highschool.” Therefore she went to school in Kyoto.
“So, was she an exchange student?”
“I suppose. Now that’s enough about Akane. Eat up before it gets cold. “
So said, Kiryu proceeded to eat with her chopsticks. After eating some of the food, she let out a few words.
“Mmm. But it really is tasty.”
“I’ve been making these since I was a kid, and I’m proud of them. Ryoko and Tomomi like it too.”
“Really?”
‘Tomomi is on the basketball team, and she’s very athletic. So she would stop by my house on her way home saying “Hiro~. I’m hungry!” and asks me to make her this.”
“Even Kamo-san?”
“Ryoko usually comes home with me saying “I haven’t eaten that in a while”
“Surprising. I thought Kamo-san was a good cook. “
“Ryoko is better than me. But she’s a klutz. ”
“…I don’t mean to be rude, but I think I know what you mean. She doesn’t seem to be very dexterous.”
“That’s right. Ryoko’s and Tomomi’s families both worked, so I cooked for all four of us. That is, until I was in the upper grades of elementary school.”
From then on, Ryoko, who continued her foolish efforts, overtook me at once, and I still treat her to home-cooked meals from time to time. Tomomi? She’s no good. I think her cooking is a sacrilege to the ingredients.
“I see… So this is the taste your childhood friends loved.”
“I don’t know if they loved it… But they liked it. What about you?”
“Yeah, it’s very tasty.”
“Right? Of course, the restaurant food is good because it’s made by professionals, but you know what? This will not be as nice, but it will be freshly made.”
“I agree. It’s a taste that you can’t taste with microwaved food.”
“So from now on you should also learn how to cook.”
“You’re not going to make it for me everytime?”
“I don’t have that kind of repertoire. It’s too sad that you can’t even cook a single dish at your age.”
‘Isn’t that sexist? That women should learn how to cook?”(E/N: Yeah… I mean… Uh… welp it looks like Kiryu will be the breadwinner so it’s kinda fine for mc to be a Househusband.)
“Idiot. Like anything, though, it’s better to be able to do it than not be able to . It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman. You’ve worked hard in your studies and athletics, haven’t you? Then why don’t you try cooking too?”
Kiryu rolls her eyes at my words. What the h**l?
“Well, you’re right. You have a point.”
“Glad you understood.” (T/N: Insert giga chad music)
“Sure, I may not need it in my life, but… well, it’s better to be able to do it than not. Huhu~ Thanks!. Well, I guess we’ll take turns cooking then!”
With that said, she held up her chopsticks and slightly raised her hands in the air.
“B-but.”
After that, she glanced at me awkwardly.
“I uh… might fail at first, after all.”
“I’ll teach you, okay?”
“Oh Ohhhh”
Kiryu, with her cheeks dyed in embarrassment, was… well, to put it simply, was so cute.
“Huhuhu. Thank you, Higashi Kujo-kun!”
Come to think of it, this is the first time she called me by name.
I was thinking about this in my head, which was not working, as I admired her flowery smile, a complete change from the expression on her face a moment ago.
