I leave the classroom and walk down the corridor to the schoolyard.
Walking next to me is Kiryu, who may be one of the most famous people in this school… It seems that I’m attracting more attention than usual. Well, it’s not uncommon for me to get that since I walk around with Tomomi and Ryoko and always get looks of envy and jealousy… but it feels like I’m being looked at with a kind of “fear” instead of envy right now.
“Ei~”
Kiryuu suddenly opened her mouth when we arrived at the school gate.
The students gathered, opening a path for us silently like Moses parting the Red Sea.
“What is it?”
“I don’t want to stay in this silence forever, so why don’t we have a chat?”
“Oh.”
Well, I’m afraid that if I had a conversation with you here, I would get more attention than I want.
“What? You want to have a chat with me?”
“On the contrary, why do you think I don’t want to chat?”
“Why do I think so, you say?”
Well you busted out the words, ‘I’m not interested in you personally”.
She looked away a little awkwardly, as if she realized what I was trying to say with my gaze.
“I’m sorry about that… I was a little upset this morning, well to be fair I only heard about it this Saturday myself, so don’t you think I have the right to be on my wits end too?! After all, out of nowhere my father suddenly told me “You have a fiance and you have to live together with him starting from next week.”
“You’re talking too loud!”
Don’t say that we are living together in the front gate! People are gonna stare at us!
“S-sorry… and, well, things got a little messy… I got carried away and my true feelings came out.”
“Oh, so you meant what you said back then, huh?”
Your style of apologizing and cursing at the same time, so innovative!
“I know it was rude, but can you blame me? Do you think I’d be interested in a boy I’ve never met or… well, at least seen? If he was attractive I could consider it, but do you think you are so popular that people are interested in you? Aren’t you being overly self-conscious?”
“I’m not…I didn’t even say those words… But, aren’t you being a bit too harsh there?”
You’re gonna make me cry.
“Well, I often see your childhood friends Suzuki-san and Kamo-san together in school so I can say that as far as I see they don’t seem like bad people.”
“Tomomi and Ryoko?”
“It looks like they both don’t have boyfriends and I constantly see them hanging around you. Do you have that much charm or do they have catastrophically bad taste or have you brainwashed them?”
“I felt malice in the last two…”
Well, I don’t doubt what you are trying to say. Tomomi and Ryoko are both popular.
“But still… You’re surprisingly easy to talk to, aren’t you?”
“What do you mean surprisingly?”
“I mean you’re called the “Villa-“
“I told you I don’t like that nickname, didn’t I?”
“I was listening to what Fujita said earlier, you know? I expected talking to you to be much harder. “
The first thing she said to me was “sorry”. That’s the number one word that shouldn’t come out of a villainess’s mouth if you ask me.
“Oh that story?”
“Yeah. By the way, was it true?”
“Well, it’s 60% true. But I have my own point of view. Do you want to hear it?”
“Sure.”
“As for that guy’s confession, he said, “Hey, Kiryu, go out with me! I have a nice face, right?” I was so surprised to hear him talk to me like that, because he looked like a survivor of Australopithecus. He was somehow smart and only halfway as athletic. Though he was a bit too persistent. Even though I already said “I’m not interested in going with you” he insisted saying “Now, don’t be shy” . I wondered if he had maggots in his brain as to why he couldn’t understand my words, and then that happened. (T/N: Australopithecus is one of the first in human evolution. Basically she said he looked like a monkey. Lmfao )
“What about the studious girl who was cursed?”
” “Good for you~, Kiryu-san. You’re smart, pretty, and rich. Life is easy for you, isn’t it?” she told me in a derogatory way. To begin with, it was my effort that got me a hundred on the test. Kosugi-san’s score of sixty-three was due to the fact that she went to karaoke despite being in the middle of the test period. So I said something like, ‘If you study hard, you can get a hundred points too,’ but she seemed to have taken it offensively.”
“The volleyball team?”
“That was a total hoax. I don’t have that much time on my hands.”
Kiryu turns away in a deadpan manner after saying so.
Hmmm…
“Then why do you let these distorted rumors of yours spread?“
“Well there’s nothing you can do about rumors.”(E/N: As Azusagawa Sakuta once said, “It’s foolish to fight the atmosphere when the people creating it don’t have a sense of it.” )
“What about denying them?”
“I don’t mean to brag, but I’m good looking, smart, athletic, and rich after all.”
“You’re so proud of yourself.”

“I’m just stating the facts. That’s why so many boys are interested in me, you know? Naturally, some are also jealous of me and don’t find me interesting. If I went to the trouble of putting out rumors, they would definitely think they had found a weakness of mine and attack me even more than before.”
“What about your friends?”
“Don’t have any. To be honest, I don’t need friends.”(E/N: Horikita is diz u?)
“That sounds like a strong statement.”
“I don’t mean to sound strong, well it’s not like I wouldn’t be happy having a reliable and trusted friend. But you know? The only kids I’ve ever had around me are the ones who try to kick me down or take advantage of me. My Junior high school was a private school for young ladies… and I, especially being an upstart little girl, had a really hard time there.”
“That must have been hard.”
“Well, I suppose. But it’s easy once you get used to it… Do you know friendships where If you don’t reply to a message right away, you’ll be left out of the group? I don’t like that kind of friendship.”
“True, there are some groups like that…”
“I mean, what’s the point of staring at your phone all day? Isn’t it a waste of time?”
“I guess.”
I don’t know about that one though.
“Besides… Huh, you talk a lot about yourself, don’t you?”
“Is it depressing?”
“It isn’t but… We haven’t met before, have we?
“This is the first time I’ve talked to you directly.”
“So you could say this is strange.”
She doesn’t look like the “villainess” that I–or perhaps all students–imagine her to be… I don’t know how to say this, but I think she’s not as bad as they say she is.
“Yeah. Because you and I are fiancees aren’t we? And if we continue to go on like this… specifically, unless I find a better match than Higashi Kujo or your father pays off his debts, there is a high probability that our marriage will be consummated.”
“I guess so… Because of my father’s debt.”
“I know you feel bad about it”
“You do?”
“Of course I do! Because, you know, this is almost like human trafficking.”
“It is… but it’s because of my dad’s debt, so…”
“That’s true. I won’t deny that. But still.”
After saying that, I showed a sincere expression and bowed my head.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience my father has caused.”
“Raise your head. It’s the same for both of us, isn’t it? You don’t need to apologize.”
“If you say so.”
“Though, this conversation was way different from the one we had in the morning.”
“Alright, I’m sorry. I’m aware that I wasn’t calm and… I’m not a good talker to begin with. That’s for sure.”
“If you’re aware of it, why don’t you fix it?”
“It’s like my “shield”. I can’t take it off easily. But I’m not as bad-natured as I sound, okay?”
“…”
Well, yeah. From what I’ve heard so far, she’s not a bad person – at least, better than the rumors.
“I digress. If marriage is going to happen at some point, I think it’s a good idea to have a smooth relationship now. I don’t have the confidence to love you as my spouse… Well, to be honest, not even you as now.”
“That’s a terrible thing to say. Oi~”
“Do you have it? Do you have the confidence to love me as your wife?”
“I don’t.”
“Right? But if we have been together for a long time, we might develop “feelings” for each other. So, let’s try to get there… Well, that’s what I’m trying to say.”(E/N: Huh, she’s unexpectedly passive with this arrangement.)
“That’s positive.”
“Really? I think it’s pretty backward.”
I see that too.
“Well, we’re going to be living together, aren’t we? There’s no use arguing with each other/.”
“Right. Therefore.”
Let’s get along.
“I will be in your hands, my fiancee”
“You too, my fiancee”
Saying that, we shook hands.
