Chapter 8: Anxiety

It’s tempting to think that my workload will be reduced, but I have to admit I’m anxious. No matter how you look at it, it’s impossible for just one person to take charge of the lead. Dina-sama is certainly strong, but she can’t do everything by herself. There’s even Silas-sensei, the most problematic teacher, at the front of the line……

I feel a twinge of uneasiness at the presence of the teacher who seems to be the most likely to get lost.

I took one look at the green-haired one out of the corner of my eye and decided, ‘I knew it wasn’t a workload you could handle alone.”

“I am very pleased with your sentiments, Dina-sama. But I think it is too much of a burden.”

“I’m glad you’re concerned, but I can handle it. This is no problem for me.”

With a look of dismay, Dina-sama repeated, “I’ll be fine.”

Perhaps because she’s the most experienced escort in the disciplinary committee, so she seemed to be full of confidence.

But strangely, she doesn’t look like she’s ‘confident’ and even feels sort of…… impatient.

I persisted, wondering, “Why are you so desperate?”

“You say ‘no problem,’ but I still think the burden is too much. It’s not like we’re short of manpower, so I don’t think there’s any need to go to the trouble …… of overworking yourself.”

I insisted, “Let’s share the workload properly,” and gently declined Dina-sama’s proposal.

I was able to overcome the temptation to reduce my workload, and I strengthened my resolve.

“Don’t let greed get the better of you,” I told myself, while Dina-sama clenched her teeth.

“No need to overdo it, you say,……? Don’t tell me ──── you underestimate my ability too!”

I could make an excuse right now, but I was worried that it might add fuel to the fire.

Dina-sama’s eyes widened in surprise as if she had finally noticed the piercing stares from those around her. Then, quickly understanding the situation, she bowed her head vigorously.

I let out a sigh as I was directed to a gaze that seemed to cling to me.

While appealing, “I’m not underestimating you,” I placed a condition on her.

While I was worried that she might collapse from overwork, Dina-sama willingly accepted the conditions.

Dina-sama nodded with a solemn expression on her face and placed her hand on her chest as if making a vow.

Staring at me with her serious amber eyes, I decided that she was not lying.

Although I still felt uneasy, I had no choice but to back down now that she had agreed to my conditions.

“Then, I will leave the lead to you. I’ll take my leave now.”

“ Are you sure you’re okay?” I swallow the words,  and bow gracefully.

In front of me, who was desperately trying to suppress my wavering emotions, Dina-sama nodded cheerfully.

“Ah, I’ll see you later.”

Dina-sama, waving a small hand at me, smiles with satisfaction.

I turned on my heel with mixed feelings in front of her, who was acting in a good mood.

Huh,…… was this really the right thing to do? To be honest, I’m not sure……. But since I’ve decided to leave it to her, I should trust her. Maybe there is something deeper at play here,…….

I shook my head and said to myself, ‘I’ve got to let go of my doubts for a while.”

Somehow, I managed to abandon my thoughts and headed for the back of the line.

At the back of the line were the members of the student council and Clarissa-sama.
