Sitting in one corner of the library in the adventurer's guild, the Otherworlder and Vera stared at the sheets of paper spread on their table.
"So, how are we going to find them? Do you even remember their names or what they look like?" Vera asked
"I'll recognize them when I see them," the Otherworlder replied, turning his eyes back to the papers in front of him. After leaving in a moment of passion, the Otherworlder realized how he had no idea of where to start looking for them and came right back into the guild.
After discussing with the staff, he managed to get the details of the last seven quests the Sanguine Snakes had taken on. Though it was possible to find clues even before that, unfortunately, the guild didn't exactly store this information.
The Sanguine Snakes were a rather ambitious bunch, taking on varying quests from simple wood-ranked ones to tougher copper-ranked ones. The adventurer's guild ranked its adventurers and missions in the same annoying way, starting from Wood, which was the lowest rank, and going up to Stone, Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Orihalcum, and lastly Mythril.
If he had to guess, he was currently no better than a Bronze-ranked adventurer, and Vera was likely at Silver. Though he thought he was still a bit weak, he knew that reaching the level he had reached in just three months was no child's play.
"These are brave quests, but they haven't picked out anything that strange."
The Otherworlder agreed with Vera's assessment. They were mostly sticking to monster cleanups and investigations, it was likely safe to assume their choices were the same even before these seven. Having determined that, the Otherworlder was left with one most likely possibility.
"This quest they left incomplete... Investigate the underground channels of Aborg... Description of quest includes sightings of mysterious figures and loud sounds at night..."
"Hmm, I think it's worth checking out."
The Otherworlder nodded and stood up from the table and went up to the shelves of documents. An adventurer's job was to set on ventures and in-depth knowledge of their surroundings along with many other things, so a wide array of books and documents on many different topics were a staple in every branch of the guild.
After scouring a bit, the Otherworlder finally found the maps of the town and its underground channels. He took them back to the table and spread them over the other documents.
"Well, well, this town is bigger than I assumed," Vera said, her eyes stuck on the maps.
"It just means we need to plan well." The Otherworlder took out a mechanical pencil from his pocket and hovered it over the map. "We'll determine the most likely spots where anything suspicious could be going on and then plan out optimal routes to cover them all."
"Alright. First off, let's cancel out any narrow zones, target the ends of the town and move towards the center."
"Next, we'll put the densely populated areas on low priority. The reports would have been overflowing if anything was happening there."
"But won't those be prime targets for anyone instigating anything?"

"True, we'll check them out, but for now let's move with what the evidence points at. And if someone was planning something... getting involved would be too troublesome."
Vera scoffed at the Otherworlder's remarks and shook her head. Both of them went back to marking out places on the map and figuring out optimal routes to cover most of them. Though their goal was to find the Sanguine Snakes, they took it on as if planning to clear the quest and that was because they were sure veteran adventurers like the Sanguine Snakes would probably go about it similarly.
After half an hour, they had finally finished making out the routes in the underground channels.
"Haah... we ended up with seven routes..." Vera sighed. "How are we going to cover them all? In fact, how should we even pick which to set out on."
Unfortunately, even after all the doubling down, they had seven routes that seemed more or less equally important in the underground channels.
"Huhu, don't worry about such small problems, Vera," a smirk spread over the Otherworlder's mouth as he reached into his pockets. "We have lady luck to guide us, such problems are not even worth mentioning."
The Otherworlder placed a coin above his thumb and took his hand above the map. "We'll go with whichever it lands on."
A glimmer of light spread through the air as the shiny coin was flicked up. The coin cut through the air as it spun, a sight so mesmerizing it seemed as if everything but the coin had frozen in time.
For a second, the coin paused in the air reaching the peak of its flight. With a great arc behind, the coin spun back down faster than it had jumped up.
-Thud!
A loud sound spread as the coin landed on the table and hopped against its wood. With a soft crinkling sound, it finally stopped its movements.
"This one, huh... Not bad."
"It looks like we've found which burrow we're going in."
With everything sorted out, the Otherworlder and Vera stood up from their seats and turned away from the guild. The time to catch the snakes had come.
"Ah crap, we'll have to keep all these documents back. Vera, help me here."
