This place… definitely looked like some sort of pet store. It included most animals you’d expect, cats, dogs, fish, etc. However the more I looked, the stranger I thought this place looked like…

I saw some strange creatures along the way… some sort of a monkey with a dog head… a hammerhead shark… in a fishbowl? I don’t mean an aquarium, I mean an actual fishbowl, the type you’d keep on a desk. Where am I…?

I raised my hand to attract the attention of my coworker “ Hey jake, have you fed the fish pond yet?” 

 

 “Nah, just about to. Why?” Jake asked tilting his head.

 

Shrugging, I answered “This one here died. I was gonna feed it to the arowanas.” 

 

“Alright, let’s go. What is it by the way?”

 

“That GMO newt they sent us. A faulty product to begin with”  I waved my hand dismissively, “Let’s go, this thing is kinda disgusting.”

 

“Ha ha ha, yeah!”

 

The fish pond, it’s where we keep the big and popular fish. We have some arowanas, koi, freshwater stingrays, and a turtle-eel hybrid. This turtle GMO has kind of become our store mascot because nobody ever bought it...sigh.

 

  The pond itself is a giant 5000-gallon aquarium. The pride and joy of our store.

I tried listening to this man and his friend talk, and although what he was saying sounded like it was English, I couldn’t make out what he was saying… trying to read signs and stuff, it looked familiar, again like English, but nothing made sense.

I kept trying to move, but to no avail until that message popped up. With it, I immediately felt I could move my spine, but everything else felt like it was hanging flesh. I wiggled a little, and for a second I was scared this guy would notice, but he was still talking to his friend, so I was still in the clear. 

 

Suddenly the man said something, and I felt the sensation of free fall for a brief moment and-

I touched the water, but along with me came other shit as well. What looked like mice were desperately swimming alongside me, and the water got somewhat murky due to some sort of meat.

 

I desperately tried to move, but all I could muster up was a wiggle like an earthworm tossed into deep water. I kept struggling until a message popped up-

My movements stabilized, and I started swimming, in a crocodile-Esque manner towards what looked to me like sea kelp or some sort of aquatic plant. All this happened somewhat subconsciously.

 

Here was the thought process involved in this. 

 

Can’t swim → Wait, I can swim,  why didn’t I think of that? → Need to hide!→ Don’t know where! → Oh wait! Plants are great hiding spaces!

 

Yes, that message seemed to unlock some kind of subconscious knowledge, and I was insanely glad it did. The mice that I was thrown in with, all got almost instantly devoured by some strange fish, It had large, metallic scales, like coins; whiskers that jut from its chin; and it undulates like the paper dragons you see in a Chinese New Year's parade.

 

The rest got devoured by, what I can only describe as a turtle, with the body of an eel as a neck and head.

Getting a chance to finally settle down, I had to ask one thing first. “WTF is happening?!”
