That’s unquestionably gratifying in itself, but of course, it’s out of stock until the next one is made. I can take a break from selling to town for a while. Well, I had no choice but to do my best on the production later but there are few things I want to do before that.
First of all, the development of new products.
That said, it’s not necessarily a big one, I’m about to make some long swords. My idea is to sell this to some peddlers (or their mercenary escorts). It will be a little better than a knife. Ah right, arrowhead too. If I forget to make those, Samia will be in a sulking mode, so I can’t forget that.Translated by Yume Neiji
Next will be the expansion of the house.
Samia now lives here so the number of tenants has increased, thinking about it, there is no guest room. This house is near the edge of the “Black Forest”, and there’s quite a distance to travel coming from the town.
For ordinary customers, it will be okay because I just have a meet them and hand over what they have ordered. But when someone like a friend or business partner (with whom I have a closer relationship) comes, they can’t stay overnight.
That will somehow be in the future, I can go out of the forest for the meantime. For now, I’ll increase the number of rooms by two, I think it will be fine for a while.
Of course, I needed material for this but unfortunately there are no dry timbers here. If we cut down some trees around here, we can get timber but it will take at least two weeks to dry. It would take more time to make a room if we do that. However, it’s a little too far to buy in town…
Since I don’t have any other choice, I decided to procure locally.
As I said, this place is inside the woods. There are a lot of materials around but I also need tools to get it. I need axe and saw. There are axes that I made before, but those are “commercial products”, and I’m not supposed to use them. With that, I’ll make a special one that is for my use.
……I feel that there are more and more things to be made but I like making things, so yeah, I don’t feel worried about it.
First would be the axe and the saw. I made the axe by stacking a metal sheet and heating it in the fire bed, I forged it till it was made into a thick metal sheet, then comes the shaping and hardening. I made it to cut a tree so I didn’t make the blade sharp.
The large saw was done by hitting the metal sheet till it turned into a thin one. After making the saw blade with chisel, it was completed by sharpening it with a file. It’s easy to say but I’m not yet used to it so I worked for a whole day just with the large saw alone.
And of course I didn’t forget to make arrowheads during the intervals. The arrowhead is made by pasting clay on a wooden model to form the mold then by burying it in the sand, I can create a template where the molten iron in the “furnace” is poured and take it out once it has cooled down. The arrowhead itself is completed by heating the place where the molten iron is poured to make a hole into which the shaft will be inserted. Then finally, sharpening the blade.
The work left is to fix it on the shaft that Samia has, I finished it a day before Samia goes hunting so there is no problem.
At last, I could now start logging. The area around the house has a little open space but it’s still surrounded by a dense forest. A little bit more and it will be like a little garden, even if I expanded my fields, I probably won’t receive divine punishment for it.
While I was making the axe and other things, I asked Samia to fetch water (but only about half of the jar) and other chores other than preparing the meals. Today, I ask her help with the saw.Translated by Yume Neiji
If you’re asking why I’m in charge of the food all the time, according to Samia, “Isn’t it obvious?, Eizou is better than me in cooking!”
……She can tell me anything, but if I get praised I’ll get soft.
I carry the axe I made and stand in front of a tree. After positioning myself like that of a batter in baseball, I strike the tree with the axe blade.
(Ko-on!) A nice sound that seems to have escaped to the sky echoed out at a considerable volume, but there is no change in the tree….. I thought so, but the tree I struck slipped on the opposite side and fell down. (Zuzun)Heavy vibrations echoed out.
The cross section was clean like it was passed through a lumber machine in my previous world. I can really feel proud of this finished product but experiencing its “cutting” effect is shocking. If I didn’t cut carefully, I might be done for already and my second life will end right here.
Considering future things, I cut another one. I didn’t forget to cut down in a downward direction. There was a loud noise and vibration again and the second tree was safely cut down. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)
I brush the branches of the cut down trees with the axe. Normally, a thin branch is better cut with a sword, but this is an axe I’m proud of. I was able to cut the branches off without any difficulty. I then strike the axe vertically considering an appropriate length. (Ko-on!) I heard that sound once more but it looks like nothing happened. However, this is cut off properly. As evidence of this, when I pushed it down, the part I cut rolled down.
I repeat this process several times and when it’s ready to make a board,
“Samia!”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)
I called out to the house in a loud voice. After a while, Samia came out of the house with a large saw. I already told her that once I called her, she will then help me out.
“It’s finally my turn huh!”
“Yeah, but don’t be rash. In addition you don’t need to exert much power”.
“Un, I know. Eizou, you really give your best making this huh?”
“’coz it’s my own tool.”
“Alright, don’t worry. I’ll cut it quickly.”
“Ok”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)
The cut tree was placed between me and Samia, we stood as if were sandwiching the fallen tree with a large saw in between. We cut it horizontally to make a board. Normally, it should have taken some power and time, but we progress smoothly as if we are cutting tofu.
“Wahaha! What is this! This is wicked!”
It’s so smooth that Samia laughs.
“If you laugh too much, you will tremble you know.”
“I know that! I’ll make sure to be careful!”
Eventually, it took less than 10 minutes to put the large saw once.
“At this rate, I think we can cut them by today.”
“That’s Right. Normally it would take more time, but it’s Eizou’s tools.”
We had to spend a whole day (with lunch and breaks in between) but we were able to complete cutting out the boards and stacking them for drying.
At last, from tomorrow, I will start working on the production of the long swords.
