Side Story 11: With You Till The End (II)
Oh, she didn’t know how desperate he was for that one word.
Crossing the world was not as easy as it sounded. He didn’t even dare to get a sense of where to start or what to do. Obviously, it was something that could not be achieved only by effort.
But if he existed in the future that his master thought of.
Anakin was ready to give up everything to get close to the possibilities in that future.
“You know, Anakin. I love you.”
His master said. And smiled. It was a brilliant goodbye.
Looking at that smile, Anakin thought he wanted to live. He wished he could meet her once more alive.
Promise transformed absence into hope, and hope made the day go on.
He realised too late that it was okay to call a day that continued like that, life.
Anakin was there as Kynthia screamed in the square. As he watched all the chaos and death, Anakin did not grieve. Because what he was looking at was not death, but liberation.
However, his master’s feet on the podium were barefoot.… That bothered him.
In that small cabin. He kept thinking about the pair of socks that he couldn’t knit. If the socks had been completed and worn, her feet would not have been cold when it snowed today.
Thump, her neck fell. To carry out the ‘last order’ she left behind, Anakin tried to disappear into the crowd. Kynthia held onto the hem of his clothes.
“…You’re going to be able to hug me again, right?”
“Probably.”
Cynthia sniffled and soon nodded. While muttering, he managed to spit out a word.
“Thank you.”
“I’m more thankful.”
It was true. This little child, Kynthia, gave him more than he did to him.
In fact, the events that took place after that were not very important. As his master guessed, the two men arrived at the underground graveyard to revive her.
A fight broke out over the body, and only Anakin was defeated. No one was interested in the excuses of those who failed. It was not important at all that Anakin had a disadvantage when fighting with the two, or that he had a Sword Master as an opponent.
Then, the witch appeared after tearing up the space. She set a fire that could not be extinguished over his master’s corpse, and with just a few gestures, she subdued the two men. It was truly magical to solve it so easily.
The pain disappeared when the witch touched him. Anakin spat out blood from his throat and asked if he was dying soon. The witch replied yes.
Oh. What a mischievous fate. As soon as he thought he wanted to live, death came. The fact that he failed to keep both his master’s order and the promise had been disastrous for him.
“Do you regret it?”
After all this, he tried to visit the witch. She was a witch who taught the master how to cross the world. Maybe she would tell him how to do it. The witch was not very favourable to him, but he expected that if he prayed and begged, she would feel sorry for him.
…Now that the possibility had disappeared, he was just worried that his master would wait for him.
She asked him to live with her. He wanted to move forward together in the world that his master whispered sometimes and told him about. So Anakin first wanted to resist fate.
Even if he had finished his duties in the story read by his master, or even if he did not appear anymore, he couldn’t end it like that.
He still didn’t know which part of his answer persuaded the witch.
The witch, who explained the conditions his master had to pay to cross the world, said Anakin needed a completely different price.
However, it was beyond Anakin’s power to fully understand the witch’s words. This was because the wound was large and a lot of blood flowed out.
Eventually, he couldn’t understand it until the end and his heavy head collapsed.
The witch’s cold fingertips closed Anakin’s eyelids.
When he opened his eyes again, he was surrounded by people he had never seen before.
They cried and laughed, hugged each other, and said they were glad that he woke up. Looking blankly at the room, he noticed it was completely different from the world he was in.
He reflectively looked down at his hands. The calluses, which had been firmly positioned, had disappeared… It wasn’t his body. Since he was spaced out, not saying anything because he was confused, the people left him to rest, perhaps because they thought he was tired.

Anakin, who was left alone, rubbed his face. A needle was stuck on the back of the hand. Where was this place? Did the witch send him to another world? Then somewhere here…… was his master alive?
If so, he wanted to go see her as soon as possible. He couldn’t even guess how long it had been since her death. He was worried if he made her wait too long because he was late.
Anakin felt nervous about whether he had been lying down for a long time, and lightly massaged his stiff body.
In fact, he was not confident. It was a different body from another world. He was able to comprehend the situation that he could no longer wear a sword and felt no presence.
But as he focused, as he always had, he was able to read the senses of this world as clearly as ever.
So many people moved busily that Anakin couldn’t stand the momentum and vomited. It seemed difficult to sneak out of that huge space because it was full of people. He thought he should get help from the people that visited last time.….
When he saw a middle-aged couple looking at him with their eyes full of expectation and asking if he was sick, he couldn’t easily open his mouth. The man he possessed seemed to be their only son.
They said he had a big accident. He was hit by a car and fell on the wrong side of his head, so he was in a coma for two weeks. Their affectionate caressing of him, saying they thought he would be terribly ill, was full of warmth and love.… It made Anakin hesitate.
However, it was impossible to deceive them forever. On the day he was told he could be ‘discharged’, Anakin told the couple that he was not their son.
They, who at first laughed at him, telling him not to joke, gradually erased the smile from their faces when Anakin repeatedly insisted.
They took Anakin to a new doctor, saying that he must have had a problem because he hurt his head. After that, he had to repeat the same story countless times along with other boring tests.
Despite his consistent response, the doctor ruled that Anakin was not normal. However, he reassured the couple to prioritise counselling treatment over drugs until his body fully recovered.
The couple worried about Anakin and tried to even take care of him a little more, and Anakin felt burdened by it.
If he knew this would happen, he would have rather lied, but Anakin really knew nothing about the world. He had to go down the box (elevator), but he used to use the stairs because he didn’t know how to open the door of the box.
When Anakin didn’t even know the most basic common sense, the couple hired people to teach him. Anakin accepted it calmly because he could not go around looking for his master without knowing anything.
Learning something was not bad, but as time passed, he became more anxious.
He once visited a person called ‘shaman’. The famous woman looked into Anakin’s eyes and advised the middle-aged woman who had brought him in, that he wasn’t her son, so to not expect anything. She prayed that she would at least do an ‘exorcism’ but the shaman shook her head.
“Sitting in your son’s body is not something that you can kick out with an exorcism. Moreover, if you kick him out, what will you do after that? You’re going to send the shell to the hospital and wait again?”
As she got out of the house, she got angry, saying that the woman was a pure scammer, but the relationship between the two became a little more awkward. This was probably because she felt that her son was a completely different person from before, little by little.
It was a strange day with unfamiliar people and a strange world. Anakin sympathised a little with how scared, hard and lonely his master must have been only when she fell into that world. Even Anakin, who was familiar with being alone, sometimes felt like he was going crazy.
He began to doubt whether he was actually mistaken and he was originally born here, but as they said, ‘something went wrong’.
In the middle of the night, when he couldn’t sleep because of his nervousness, he ran to the kitchen, picked up a kitchen knife, and only after he was able to succeed in infusing the sword, did he choose to breathe.
Fortunately, he was still ‘Anakin’.
Anakin’s legs lost strength. Anakin began walking around the streets recklessly the next day. He couldn’t delay it any longer. He didn’t want to wait, thinking that they would meet someday.
It was a vague thing. Just as Anakin’s appearance changed, it was clear that his master’s appearance also changed. He wasn’t sure she would recognise him. However, he was desperate even if it was a faint possibility.
As he walked through people until his feet ached in pain, his heavy heart felt a little lighter.
Sometimes he had nightmares. It was a dream that Anakin witnessed his master’s death for the second time because he was too late.
After waking up from his dream, Anakin ran to the bathroom and vomited.
He was scared. How much longer could he endure? All he could hold on to in this world was the name given by his master. Anakin knew that one day, even this name would be blurred.
He was not as strong as his master, he was afraid that he would eventually give up and forget everything.
One day he finally thought he wanted to die, Anakin stopped walking in surprise at his own thoughts. And he cried for a while.
His master changed him this much. She made the boy who was living reluctantly because he did not die, want to live again.
He was so well organised, he now thought and acted like a normal person. His master gave him joy, sadness, fear and excitement, and the future…… She taught him all the meanings. That fact made Anakin move again. There was something he wanted to say to her.
If one day, as she said, this world was just a really big play, now he dared to be her main character. Not the world’s, but her main character. Ah, may his absence mean anything to her.
Everyone might think it was boring because it was a life with so many holes. But not everyone had to love the play. Because only one person needed to know.
“Anakin?”
The one person who would not break up with him even if the curtains fell.
