(Bu Cai POV)

Bu Cai felt his consciousness return.

Being Confused by this, he tried to look around only to find himself in a place bereft of any colour.  Only white could be seen.

But that was not the major issue, looking down at 'himself' there was nothing... Yes nothing!

No arms, no legs, no feet, and of course, no little Bu Cai!

But the strange part was that he felt strangely calm.

He was only surprised for a bit, Then accepted that he was literally 'nothing' incredibly quickly and moved on.

He then couldn't help but think back to some religious stuff he remembered from back on earth,

"Is this the heaven that Christianity was talking about?"

"Seems like the peaceful part was right... but there is nothing particularly paradise about it."

Just when he was about to be lost in thought, golden words that contrasted with the monotone white appeared in front of him and a cold mechanical voice was heard. The words read out,

[Hello Host, I am your system that is assigned to help prevent you from ceasing to exist.]

Although he could stay calm at the fact that he was 'literally fucking nothing'. This time he couldn't.

It's safe to say that if Bu Cai was able to shit right now, he would shit himself in excitement.

Although he couldn't talk right now, his desire for answers to his questions were clearly understood by the system.

[Simply put Host, they drain the different universes' source energy and don't give anything back as they are greedy bastards. So your job is to vanquish them on the behest of these universes and help them out. In return for doing so, you get to keep existing as well as be able to live in that universe and do whatever you want until you pass away; Or you can move to the next universe to start hunting more whenever you want.]

[Aside from those two benefits you will also be able to gain a certain amount of source energy as well (amount varies on difficulty tier) which can used through the system to pretty much get whatever you desire.]

Bu Cai was Awe-Struck.

To think he would be able to Xianxia, in person!

Such a thing was a dream to him. As although the world of Xianxia, was one that is ruthless and cruel.

And the thought of killing and scheming was not something a modern man like him could comprehend currently. It was also filled with endless adventure and opportunities which, up till now, he could only read about.

Seems like the sentence 'calamity and opportunity go hand in hand', does have some truth behind it after all!

Being a headstrong individual, he quickly recovered from the shock of finding proof that he was literally the unluckiest under the heavens and instantly put 'getting rid of misfortune' at the top of his bucket list of things to do with universe source once he gets his hands on it.

Or he'll die trying.

He then asked the System nervously about the main problem on his mind,

"How can I kill someone blessed with fortune if i'll be running into death at every corner I take?"

"It doesn't matter if I can suppress his fortune or not if I can't even get close to him, without getting slapped to death from bumping into some powerful cultivator due to my misfortune."

"Heck! lets not even mention the fact that i can't even kill someone!"

The System replied in it's mechanical voice,

[Worry not Host, as the System has derived a way to only gain benefits from the having misfortune. The System will be able to suppress the misfortune on yourself for three worlds, hence allowing you to complete some bug swatting and then use the universe energy gained to modify the bad luck into a {Cockroach Luck Repellent}.]

[WARNING, it is highly advised that Host strives to complete at least one world of the three, so that you can change your misfortune or realistically you will never be able to best a Fortuned One.]

Happy that there was still a sliver of hope, but confused by what the system meant by the latter part, he asked,

"I can fail universes and continue living?"

The system explained,

[Yes Host, If Host fails to recover the source energy from the Fortuned One or die during the mission; the Host will be removed from universe.]

[Said universe will then either freeze itself for the chance that something will save it, or let the protagonist feed off it's source energy until the universe collapses. The host will also be issued a penalty... A loss of socia- *cough* system credits.]

[Essentially you and I's existence. Therefore if we run out, we will cease to exist.]

[System credit can be gained through source energy as well.]

Although Bu Cai doesn't see himself as a hero, and in fact despises people and has trust issues due to seeing the ugly side of society, he still understood that the guilt of indirectly being the cause of the eventual death of a universe full of an almost endless number of organisms won't be pleasant. Also knowing that he will also die if he doesn't try his utmost to get the source back a determination arose in Bu Cai.

To put in maximum effort in. if not for anyone else, At least for his own self-preservation!
