Grey krister

*shlack* *shlack* *shlack*

Three powerful blows echoed through the empty forest, then with a final thud, a tree over 20 meters tall fell to the ground, "Aaaah!", a young boy with black hair topped with purple streaks dodged the large trunk at the last moment and it fell straight down on him. "Gee, that was close," he said, his left hand rubbing his sweaty forehead, the other holding an axe about a metre long.

He looked at the trunk before saying in a tired voice with a tinge of joy in it, "Well, that was the last one, it's late, let's go home". After a few minutes of walking the young man finally left the forest, from a distance he could see a large wooden arch that overhung a dirt road on which some people passed, it was the entrance to the village.

On the way to this giant arch the young man passed some people he knew well, like the old purl, he was wrinkled, stooped and seemed sad, his eyes were dull with regret. However, he was a very kind man, and had helped the young man more than once in his youth, especially with his studies. After exchanging a few words the boy took his way again and a few minutes later he arrived in front of a stone building, it was his house, but before entering and despite the throbbing hunger he felt, he slowly entered a small cabin at the back of this same house where he put the steel axe.

After depositing the object he went around the building again before, this time, entering through the main door. As soon as he entered a pleasant smell came to tickle his nostrils, 'it's beef and potatoes', with haste he walked towards the dining room, on the way he passed into the living room, on the couch a man, in his forties, with sunken cheeks and wrinkles on his forehead was sitting there, a newspaper in his hand leafing through the news of the day. Stopping his reading, he turned around, "Good evening grey", the man nodded slowly, he had green eyes sometimes changing from green to brown, his green hair was stuck back, a few strands hanging over his forehead, he had a thick moustache almost hiding his mouth and large round copper coloured glasses.

"Good evening dad, did you have a good day?", Grey asked, forcing a smile on his face due to the pain in his stomach which was still very much alive.

"I wish I were your age, son," sighed Reed, Grey's father.

"That's right!" a new voice echoed in the distance as a short, round woman came into the living room wearing a patched apron and carrying a dish with two hands, the dish was filled with squared potatoes and sliced beef on top. Grey looked at the dish with envy, he drooled but forcing himself to look past it he announced, "Hello Mum, how are you?",

"Haha, pretty good, but your father is right, age does make the job difficult," Grey's mother sighed in self-indulgence, her eyes were completely brown, her hair sometimes changed between brown and blonde, her smile was radiant but accentuated the wrinkles in her cheeks, apart from that, she exuded energy and youth, the opposite of her father who inspired calm and serenity.

In a rather sarcastic tone Grey said, "Don't say that, you are still very young and full of energy!

The eyes of both parents turned to the teenager, then a silence filled the house, after a few seconds everyone started laughing happily.

"Come on son, let's go to the table, you too old shnock," the mother, a Geisha, inhaled the smell of the meat and potatoes she put on the table.

"Very good."

"Very good."

The two men spoke in unison and then sat down in front of the succulent dish that stood there, a few seconds later, Geisha arrived, without her patched apron and sat down opposite Grey, before starting to eat they all closed their eyes, leaned their heads forward and placed their right hands on their chests, at the level of the heart, before praying for their meal.

"Clevia, goddess of life, crops and hunting ....", after a short prayer, Grey and her parents began to eat quickly and just before a gap in the food supply Reed started the conversation.

"So Grey, how many trees did you cut today?"

"27, I cut 27," Grey, diving into his dish, replied casually.

"27!?", Geisha and Reed's eyes widened, "Haha, you beat my record by far!", Reed seemed happy, but Geisha doubted the veracity of her child's words, "27? There's no way a kid your age, even an adult, could have done it, you're not lying to us, are you?

With a little more interest than the previous question, Grey said indignantly, "If you don't believe me, go and look in the wood store, there are 26 more than yesterday.

"26 ? Why not 27?" his father asked, his eyebrows furrowing.

"I passed old Purl on the way, he was going towards the warehouse with a cart, considering his size he can only carry one log", his mouth relatively full, he made his point.

"Very well, I trust you, don't worry", Geisha replied with a big smile, radiant as always.

Reed looked at his son with joy before saying, "Haha, of course he's not lying, he's my son, to say he cut 27 logs in one day, what a feat!", the father laughed loudly but was cut off by his son's words,

"It must be amazing, considering your record of 8", Grey's sarcastic tone led to a few seconds of silence before the whole family laughed.

After the meal, Grey, tired from his busy day, went to sleep without thinking about anything else.

The next day Grey got up at dawn, without a word to his parents who were still asleep, to go, as usual, to train, indeed every day before cutting the tree trunks all day, Grey, runs during 1h30 and realizes simple exercises allowing his body to be forged and to keep a shape, a strength, an explosiveness and a perfect rapidity

After his rigorous training, Grey returned home to see his parents, each of whom were doing their usual morning chores, his father reading the paper, while his mother prepared breakfast. After a brief greeting Grey went to the small bathroom in the house.

After coming out, he tasted the breakfast, made by his mother, "So how do you like the food?", asked Geisha.

Raising his head Grey smiled a satisfied smile before asking, "It looks better than usual, did you change the recipe?",

"Good deduction!", Grey's mother smiled broadly, before continuing, "I learned my recipe from a friend yesterday, she told me that since she makes this dish, her husband shows more energy at work and at my house to take care of their children", she said, 'she did emphasize the word "husband" ? ', Grey scoffed.

"Well, that's not all, but I'm going to beat my own record, see you later!" Grey, after finishing his breakfast, put on his brown boots and jacket with a piece of blue cloth, then ran outside the house, which he went round to get the axe he had put in the little shed.

Armed with his axe, Grey instinctively ran towards the forest, on the way he didn't meet anyone, it was still early and so no one was going out, everyone was having their breakfast, drinking their coffee or dressing their children.

After about twenty minutes, Grey contemplated the large luxuriant forest which was in front of him, while entering this one, large noises appeared and disappeared suddenly, like small animals fleeing, without taking into account that, Grey, who knew perfectly this part of the forest, pressed the step and sank in this one, as he advanced the heavy silence replaced the noise of the animals. Grey was now extremely vigilant, since the area here was often called, "goblin forest",

It was a large forest where many goblins of all kinds and monsters of almost negligible strength lived, so there was no danger. After dozens of minutes of walking Grey arrived in front of a large full forest, 'what is this place?' he thought, his eyes filled with astonishment, indeed, he had never seen, in all his years of experience, a full forest like this one, composed, in the middle, of dozens of trees, bigger, fatter and blacker, that were completely separated from the rest of the forest.

This is an interesting find', he sighed, he slowly approached the dozens of trees, suddenly a sweet smell exploded under Grey's nostrils, without really understanding where the smell was coming from he unconsciously continued to approach the trees, when he was close enough he cautiously sniffed the trunk, 'it's coming from there, what is it?',

Suddenly, an even sweeter smell than before reached his nose, "what is that?", his eyebrows were furrowed and he couldn't help but speak out loud. But his incomprehension was immediately replaced by excitement, 'What's in there? And if I took this back to the village how would they react?'. Without further hesitation, Grey stood about a metre away from the tree, cocked both arms holding the axe backwards, fixed his gaze on a bark, and after a few seconds of concentration he struck with all his might.

*BAM*

"HAAAAH!", a shrill scream echoed throughout the forest, Grey, who was close to where the sound started, quickly dropped the axe to plug his ears with both hands, "What...What is that?!", he shouted, his voice unable to even be heard by himself.

After a few seconds the shouting stopped abruptly, Grey, stunned, cautiously removed his hands from his head and quickly retrieved his axe, all of a sudden dozens of Machiavellian laughs appeared, 'what's going on at last!', then nothing, the laughter also disappeared all at once, without really understanding, Grey put his gaze all around him, until he found himself face to face with the same black trees, which were mysteriously starting to catch fire.

'Why do they all catch fire at once? Oh no! Don't tell me.... !', the branches, trunks, and leaves began to crack, burn, and disappear, leaving only a black streak on the ground, Grey stepped back quickly as he watched the black blobs rise up without a sound to form small, yellow, bald men dressed in furs and leather armor.

'Forest goblins! What are they doing so close to a village?'. Indeed, the forest goblins were famous as the only race of goblins that could live in the middle of a forest, its most dangerous part. Thanks to their ability to transform themselves into elements of nature, however they were rather weak physically, more so than other goblins anyway.

Without further questioning, Grey turned to flee, but quickly realised something crucial and grinned, 'I'm surrounded...', Grey laughed in self-oderision. Turning around once more he saw the "gaman", master of the forest goblin tribe, with his cane in his hand, speaking incomprehensibly, when suddenly a goblin jumped on Grey, already on the alert, prepared for this eventuality, dodged the goblin's sudden attack heavily and rolled to the ground, before he could even get up an arrow penetrated his left thigh, "Aaargh!"

Looking back at where it came from he saw a goblin, far behind the others, preparing to fire another one, Grey was strictly surrounded, threatened by rapid arrows, with a sore thigh, 'heh ! Well, looks like I shouldn't have come here', he scoffed.

'I couldn't run away either, I'm surrounded and wounded, Haaaa...looks like I don't have much of a choice', after a short pause he lifted his numb head and body, and announced calmly, with a small nervous smile at the corner of his lips, "well...let's fight!"

Without waiting he charged towards the tribal leader with an axe in hand, 'we must eliminate the leader !', however four goblins blocked his path, but without a moment's hesitation he threw his right arm holding the axe directly at the neck of the monsters, who were instantly separated from the rest of his body by surprise. Grey stopped dead in his tracks and using an unusual flexibility, he turned his upper body backwards and sliced the yellow goblin that was coming at him, then, like a spring, Grey used the momentum from his turn to slice again in front of him, this time he only cut the arm of a goblin that flew a few meters away.

'F*ck!', he screamed inwardly, the wounded goblin screamed in pain before looking up at Grey, his eyes bloodshot, and with another scream of rage he charged at him, however, at the same time, three other goblins were charging towards Grey, surrounding him.

With no way out, Grey used his remaining strength to spin like a tornado and cut off the heads of all the monsters around him, except for one, the one with the severed arm, "but, he's immortal or something!".

Then the goblin with the severed arm threw his sword at Grey who found himself with a deep cut on his arm, "Aaaargh!", he shouted, getting down on one knee, he looked around to see dozens of goblins slowly approaching, as if they were holding back before eating a large meal, the yellowish saliva dripping down made Grey shiver, before a red filter settled on his eyes.

The world's pace became slow, it was losing too much blood, however, without really understanding why reddish filaments appeared in front of its eyes, each of these threads connected a goblin to its axe, and a single one to its free hand the left, which was connected to the Gaman, leader of the forest goblins.

In a rush of adrenaline, Grey slowly got up and charged towards the monsters, towards their leader. His mind was clearer than ever, he could not hear anything but all at once, he could not see anything but all at once, he could not feel anything but all at once, he could see the present but was superimposed on the future, nothing made sense anymore.

Then in repeated chops he counted in his head, 'And one...and two...and three...and four...and .....', each number represented a dead goblin, he cut them easily and unscrupulously, with no chill, each death took a thread out of the weapon, however after he cut his last thread, just after he had torn the abdomen up and down of a goblin, his weapon broke, in several pieces, impossible to repair, but Grey didn't care, he still had a weapon and he knew it, his point, on which the last wire was hung, then in a quick movement the Gaman, helpless and stunned suddenly shouted. At the same time a mysterious force, like a wall pushing Grey back appeared, however, he didn't care and threw his fist towards his face, at the same time Grey let out a huge cry of strength, "Aaaaaaaah!", and thrust his fist towards the goblin's chin which was ripped off and unstuck, then in a spurt of blood, fell to the ground like a stone.

"Their bodies are as weak and fragile as they say," he ridiculed, he staggered slowly and then fell to the ground in exhaustion, 'I'm so tired,' he thought, before losing consciousness.
