“Not so fast, Minato!” Jiraiya said.

The Sannin had just grabbed Minato with his hair, immobilizing him.

“You'll have to do better if you want to beat me…”

Minato looked around.

“Yeah, no more free kunai!” Jiraiya sneered. “I spotted them all and caught them with my mane. Wherever you appear, you will be trapped, Minato.”

Suddenly, Minato disappeared, only to find himself trapped again by Jiraiya's long white hair. He disappeared again. Chaining the teleportations, he went through all his kunai, each time remaining trapped by his master.

“Jiraiya-sensei, your technique is remarkable... But you should know it better, before using it.”

“What do you mean?”

“To grow your hair like this, you use your chakra to stimulate the hormones and boost the hair follicles.”

“So?”

“The problem is that if hair growth is accelerated, its lifespan is shortened accordingly.”

“What? You mean... I'm going to go bald?!” Jiraiya panicked.

“The hair grows back, Jiraiya-sensei…”

“Oh, of course, I knew that.”

“But they also fall…”

Jiraiya frowned, but it was already too late. Minato had pulled himself out of his master's grip, finding himself crouched just below one of his giant locks.

“When you caught my kunais with your mane, it allowed me to put my mark on as much hair as possible. This, together with the accelerated hair loss due to your technique, made the likelihood of a strand of hair falling out in the next few seconds very high. When it happens, all I have to do is teleport.”

Jiraiya closed his eyes as he returned his hair to its normal length.

“Impressive deduction, but how about…”

“Too late.”

Minato was behind Jiraiya, a kunai placed at the level of his throat.

“What the…”

“I already told you; I’ve marked your hair. By retracting them, you made it easy for me to teleport behind you. I won, sensei.”

Jiraiya slapped his forehead, looking disappointed. Then, a small smile appeared on his face.

“You have done well, Minato,” Jiraiya admitted. “Almost as strong as your old master,” he added with a laugh.

“It is an honor for me to be compared to you, Jiraiya-sensei.”

“We're going to make things a bit more difficult now,” Jiraiya added, pressing his hands together. “It's time for me to fight seriously. Stay away, please. Let me get ready. But first... get those pesky seals out of my hair!”

Minato complied immediately.

“So that's it, you're finally going to show me your Senjutsu mode! The power that the toads of Mount Myoboku never taught me, considering my chakra too weak to contain it…”

Jiraiya opened his eyes. The pupil was flat, like the eyes of frogs.

“In real combat, Minato would never have let me activate this mode quietly, and knowing his fighting style, I would have had a hard time finding the time to achieve it... Besides, without the two old toads, I can only maintain this mode for a few minutes. I will have to hurry! The Sannin thought.

“Okay, let’s start again, Minato.”

The power that emanated from Jiraiya was such that Minato felt some shivers. The latter opened his right hand and created a Rasengan, a spinning ball of chakra.

Jiraiya sneered.

“You're not serious? Do you think a simple Rasengan can do anything against me? Sage Art: Massive Rasengan!”

The same technique appeared in the hands of Jiraiya, but its size was considerably greater. Instead of fitting in the palm of a hand, Jiraiya’s sphere could swallow up a house.

"I'm warning you, Minato," Jiraiya said, ready for battle. “This time, I won't hold back!”

The ground beneath his feet cracked as he charged straight at his former student. Minato raised his arm, placing his Rasengan in front of Jiraiya's monstrous one. The clash was imminent.

What is he playing at? Jiraiya thought. No Kunai has been launched, and he has removed all his seals from the last fight... He can no longer teleport...”

“Flash Rasengan.”

Just before impact, Minato's Rasengan changed. It lost a third of its size, but it was emanating bright light. The rotation of the sphere couldn’t be seen anymore. It was as if Minato was holding light itself in his hand.

Suddenly, Jiraiya's gigantic Rasengan was destroyed. The Sannin couldn't slow down his momentum, and Minato, with his free arm, pulled Jiraiya's outstretched ones out of the way to prevent his sensei from being injured.

Jiraiya opened his eyes wide.

"So...that's it... " he whispered. “You succeed... How did you do it? How did you improve the Rasengan?”

The Rasengan disappeared and Minato collapsed. Jiraiya helped him up and gave him a warm smile.

“I failed time and time again to add my chakra nature to it. So I decided to explore another route. I tried to increase the rotation to the limit while condensing as much chakra as I can. That is why all you see is a flash of light. The rotation is so fast to be seen with the naked eye. The amount of chakra I put in it is enough for a normal Big Ball Rasengan. But I try to keep it condensed while pushing the rotation to the max to increase its destructive power.”

“Increasing the rotation. I didn’t think it was possible. A normal Rasengan rotation is already hard to achieve. I can’t believe chakra could be rotated even faster…”

“I'm not yet able to keep it up at will,” Minato said softly, who seemed on the verge of losing consciousness.

"Why did you use it then?" Jiraiya wondered. “I know you, Minato. Your mind is always one step ahead of your actions. Surely you had dozens of less risky solutions to choose from…”

“It's true... But... I wanted you to see it... I wanted you to be the first... Jiraiya-sensei…”

Jiraiya was left speechless by Minato's words. Touched by his words and filled with pride, he then took Minato on his back.

“Come on, I’ll bring you home.”.

He walked towards the village, exiting his Sage mode.

“Ouch, it looks like you've gained weight all of a sudden!”

Approaching the entrance, the Sannin was spotted by the village guards.

“Who is this?” One of them said.

“It's... Jiraiya, the legendary Sannin!”

"And on his back?"

“The Yondaime Hokage?!”

The guards ran towards the two figures of Konoha.

“What happened?”

"Is the Yondaime all right?"

“Rest assured,” Jiraiya said proudly. I, the great Sannin Jiraiya, the hermit of Mount Myoboku, vouch for his well-being!”

He suddenly stumbled on a stone and almost lost his balance, which did not reassure the two ninjas.

Arrived at the village, Jiraiya and Minato were greeted by the villagers with the same surprise.
Since the Third Shinobi World War, Minato had earned an outstanding reputation. Some thought him invincible, and the majority of the village was attached to its Hokage. Everyone openly worried about Minato's condition. All but one.

Minato had spotted a young dark-haired boy nearby, staring at the scene.

"Itachi..." Minato whispered. “I'm sorry, Itachi. We'll do it another time, okay?”

“What do you mean?” Jiraiya asked. “What are you talking about?”

“I took my day off to train with you, but I had promised to devote some time to him afterward.”

“Hmm... I see, so now the Yondaime Hokage takes care of the youth?”

Minato chuckled.

“You are strong, Jiraiya-sensei. And you're known to be unrivaled when it comes to information gathering, but... obviously, you haven't followed anything happening in Konoha since your long absence!”

“You little…! Jiraiya replied, faking outrage. “But... What am I missing?”

Minato regained his seriousness.

“Since Fugaku's disappearance, life has become very difficult for Mikoto, her family, and her clan. For a time, she was able to be the head of the clan. But she was quickly dethroned. Mikoto having to take care of her two sons on her own didn’t leave her enough time to properly manage clan affairs.”

“That’s to be expected…”

“Let's go to my office. I will explain everything to you in detail.”

Jiraiya, sensing that Minato had partially recovered, put him down and accompanied him to the Hokage building. Arriving at the door, Minato knocked.

“Sandaime Hokage, it's me. I finished earlier than expected.”

Minato and Jiraiya opened the door and found themselves face to face with all the members of the Konoha Council, in the middle of a meeting...

Judging by their reactions, Minato was not expected…
