Chapter 1: This Was Happening

I awoke to darkness. It was disorienting, and my first instinct was to reach for a light switch. My fingers found nothing but empty air. I couldn't see anything, not even my hand in front of my face. I tried to calm myself down and think logically. There must be an explanation for this. Maybe I was just dreaming? But it felt so real. Suddenly, I felt something touch my leg, and I let out a yelp of surprise before scrambling away from the spot. If this was a dream, then why did that feel so real?

 

There was a deep chuckle from somewhere in the darkness, and then a voice spoke up. "Relax, human. You are in no danger here." The voice had a strange cadence to it that I couldn't place.

 

"Wh-where am I?" I stammered out.

 

"You are in my domain now," the voice replied. "I have brought you here for a purpose."

 

"And what purpose is that?" I asked warily.

 

"You will train in my school to become a warrior who kills supernatural creatures," the voice said matter-of-factly. "It is your destiny."

 

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. This was not what I had expected when I went to bed last night. "And if I refuse?"

 

"Then you will die," the voice said simply. "But do not worry, human. If you succeed in your training, then you will be rewarded handsomely."

 

Somehow, that didn't make me feel any better. It sounded like this was going to be a lot harder than I thought. "So what do I have to do?"

 

"First, you must choose your weapon," the voice said. "You will be given a choice of three."

 

I had no idea what kind of weapons I would need to kill supernatural creatures, but I supposed it didn't matter. I would just have to trust that the voice knew what it was doing. "And then what?"

 

"Then you will begin your training," the voice said. "You will learn how to fight and how to kill. And once you are ready, you will be sent out into the world to put your skills to the test."

 

I took a deep breath and tried to steady myself. This was really happening. I was in some kind of alternate world where I had to train to kill monsters. It sounded like the plot of a bad horror movie, but unfortunately for me, it was reality. "Okay," I said finally. "I'm ready."

 

Suddenly, a bright light appeared in front of me, and I had to squint my eyes to see. Once my vision cleared, I saw that I was standing in front of three doors. Each one had a different symbol on it, and I had no idea what they meant.

 

"Choose your weapon, human," the voice said again. "And be careful. The wrong choice could mean your death."

 

I swallowed hard and stepped forward to the door on the left. It seemed like as good a choice as any. I reached for the handle, but before I could touch it, the door swung open on its own.

 

I stumbled backward in surprise and tripped over something behind me. I turned to see what it was, and my heart nearly stopped when I saw a girl lying on the ground. She was beautiful, with long silver hair and delicate features. But she also had a pair of large horns protruding from her forehead, and her eyes were glowing a bright red.

 

"What the-?" I scrambled away from her in terror, but she just lay there calmly and watched me with amusement.

"You should be more careful, human," she said in a sultry voice. "You could have hurt yourself."

 

I gaped at her in disbelief. This was not what I had expected to find when I chose my weapon. Was this some kind of monster? And if so, why wasn't it attacking me?

 

"W-what are you?" I asked in a trembling voice.

 

"My name is Melodious," she said, sitting up and giving me a seductive smile. "And I'm here to be your companion during your training."

 

"C-companion?" I repeated in confusion.

 

"Yes," she said, crawling towards me on her hands and knees. "I will be with you every step of the way, helping you to become the warrior you were meant to be."

 

As she spoke, I noticed that her horns were slowly retracting into her forehead until they disappeared completely. And her eyes stopped glowing red, returning to their normal color. Suddenly, she didn't look so scary anymore. In fact, she looked kind of cute.

 

"W-why would you help me?" I asked warily.

 

She reached out and stroked my cheek with her hand, and I felt a strange warmth spreading through my body. "Because I want you," she purred. "And I know that together we can accomplish great things."

 

I swallowed hard as her words sunk in. Did she just say that she wanted me? As in romantically? But that couldn't be right. She was some kind of monster, wasn't she? There was no way she could be interested in me like that. And yet, the way she was looking at me made it seem like anything was possible.

 

Before I could say anything, she leaned forward and kissed me gently on the lips. It was electric, and I felt my whole body tingling as our mouths moved together. Then she pulled away too soon, leaving me wanting more.

 

"So what do you say?" she asked breathlessly. "Will you let me train you?"

 

I hesitated for a moment, but then I nodded my head. It didn't matter if she was a monster or not. There was something about her that I couldn't resist. And besides, it wasn't like I had any other choice. "Yes," I said finally. "I'll let you train me."

 

"Good," she said, her eyes glittering with excitement. "Because I promise you, human. By the time I'm done with you, you're going to be the best warrior this world has ever seen."

 

"What is the point of all of this anyway?" I asked as she stood up and pulled me to my feet. "Why do you need me to kill supernatural creatures?"

 

"That is a question for another time," she said evasively. "For now, you just need to focus on your training. The rest will come in due time."

 

She began leading me towards the door on the right, and I had a feeling that my life was never going to be the same again.
