Me, Horos, and the Knights of the End. I'm undoubtedly the weakest of the three.
The only reason I was able to fight the monsters in the forest was because of Lord's backup. The current me has grown a bit through actual experience and rank mutation, but I haven't changed that much since then.
In general, it is said that if a citizen who does not know how to fight turns into a zombie, a type of undead known as the lowest class, his fighting ability will increase.
There is a limiter in the human brain.
It is said that the human body is damaged by recoil when it exerts its full power. The limiter is a safety feature that exists to prevent this from happening, and thanks to this function, humans are able to lead a healthy daily life, but at the same time, they are basically unable to give their all.
On the other hand, undead beings have no safety and no sense of pain. A zombified human being, regardless of the damage to its body, will display a physical strength far beyond that of its previous life, and since it does not feel pain, it will not stop until it kills.
They don't rely on their physical organs for survival, so even if they are stabbed in the heart and their limbs are blown off, they will still feed on their target with only their grudge.
I was not a zombie, but a carnivore, so there are some differences, but this is one of the reasons why I was able to defeat the monsters in the forest right after my resurrection, even though I was resurrected with my poor body. Incidentally, another reason was that Lord took care of stopping and restoring me with his magic. If it weren't for that, I would have fallen at a high rate, as I am not used to fighting. I can't thank you enough Lord.
The current me is even more powerful as a werewolf than I was back then, but if you're asking if I can compete with the Knights of the End, no.
I'm sure I'd lose in a one-on-one match, and even if there were five or six of me, they'd probably kill me as if I were a weed.
The Knights of the End are the elite of the elite, having undergone rigorous training and experience.
Their armament may differ from one member to another, but all of them are capable of killing with a single blow, and they are used to dealing with undead like me.
Their fighting skills are different. They have different physical abilities. And with no experience to speak of, I don't stand a chance in hell.
They are the light. If the rulers of darkness are necromancers, they are the opposite.
That doesn't mean they have high social status or anything.
The Knights of the End manipulate energy that is the opposite of necromancers.
I don't know the details, but according to books, there are roughly two types of energy in this world: positive energy and negative energy.
It can be called light and dark, life and death, but all living things have positive energy. When this energy reaches zero, all living things die and part from this world forever.
On the other hand, there is a magic that overrides this rule. That is necromancy.
That magic--a curse--reconstructs the corpse of a living being to move with negative energy.
I am now a doll powered by negative energy through the magic of Horos. The reason why my body moves even though my heart is not beating is because the power source of my existence has been changed.
Instead of the positive energy produced by the beating of my heart, I am now powered by the negative energy that is generated when a living being dies. And unlike positive energy, negative energy does not drain naturally.
That's why the undead don't have a life span. That's why they are called undead.
But that doesn't mean I don't have weaknesses. My body is not invincible.
My body works because the power of the lord has put me slightly off track. I will die if my body is so depleted that it cannot hold my soul together, and I will die if - for whatever reason - my energy goes to zero.
From here on, it gets a little more complicated, which I don't really understand, and that's why the undead are at an overwhelming disadvantage against the Knights of the End.
For the sake of convenience, I'm using the words positive energy and negative energy, but strictly speaking, they are slightly different.
Positive energy is energy, but negative energy is not energy. Negative is a "state".
What the Knights of the End control (or rather, what ordinary creatures control) is the power of light - positive energy.
They boast unparalleled military prowess, but when confronting the undead, they do not "destroy" them, but rather "purify" them very efficiently. Rather than spending an enormous amount of effort to destroy my body, they try to bring me to a state of zero, rather than negative, by adding light energy. And the moment my body, finally able to move thanks to the power of the Lord, reaches the zero state, it will stop moving according to the rules of this world. This is the second death.
This is the fatal weakness of me, or rather the undead.
On the other hand, we undead can't do the same thing to them. Since negative energy is not strictly speaking energy (I'm getting confused when I say this), we can't shoot negative energy beams at them to reduce them to zero.
It is impossible to eliminate this weakness according to the general principles of the world.
It's really a terrible thing that we can't even win against them. Well, even if they didn't have this weakness, there is no way they could win against the overwhelming strength of the world.
I have become stronger than before I was born. It may seem strange to compare the two, since I was in a state of extreme weakness before I was born, but as a werewolf, I have more strength than a human, more toughness than a human, more regeneration than a human, and I also have the power to transform part of my claws, a strength unique to werewolves. In addition, he has gained the power to transform some of his claws - "sharp claws" - and the power to sharpen his fangs - "sharp fangs".
In undead terms, he is a second-year student. Unlike carnivores, corpses must be devoured to be able to produce power, but their physical strength is so strong that it cannot be explained by the fact that they do not have a limiter.
It is said that a werewolf is generally considered to be an undead that can be defeated by one or two low-level mercenaries, but I am a bit smarter and I am confident that I can get rid of three or four of them.
But with that kind of ability, I can't beat the Knights of the End, who are the hero candidates.
The quickest thing to do in this case is to run away. I don't have a grudge against the Knights of the End like Lord does, nor do I want to fight them. But that would be hindered by Lord's privilege against me.
The Lord's privilege is powerful. And it's actually not just absolute command that I've been disturbed by.
Absolute command, general location detection. And the right to cast certain spells from a distance.
No matter how much physical distance I gain, there's still a magical connection between me and Lord. It's a kind of safety that won't disappear unless the Lord dies, and through it he can cast spells on me at will. In other words, he's free to turn me back into a mere corpse.
It's impossible to remove the privilege from the outside. Well, maybe he can, but I can't do it. There's no time.
Even if I wanted to escape, I'd have to kill Lord by surprise somehow.
To be honest, I couldn't decide whether it would be more difficult to fight off the Knights of the End with Lord, or to kill Lord and escape.
I'm stuck on both sides. Both seemed impossible, but I had to choose one or the other.
§The next day
The next day, before I could resolve my problem, I found myself in a further predicament. The Lord had sent numerous guards into the grounds.
They were countless owls that crept noiselessly about, telling the Lord everything they saw and heard.
I couldn't sneak out at night anymore. And that meant I couldn't get anything to satisfy my appetite as a ghoul.
