Later. Celestine's chambers.

"Oh... it was exhausting..." - Celestine sank heavily into her chair, resting her head wearily on the back and resting her hands on the soft armrests. In one hand she held a glass of expensive wine, made from the finest grapes grown in the gardens of her kin.

The performance in the square had only recently ended, and the two rulers had decided to rest in peace. Important events had been scheduled for the evening and the next morning so they had enough time to catch their breath and relax after a few very busy days.

"You did a good job." - Her worst enemy in the past and friend in the present, Olga Discordia, poured the ruby liquid from corner to corner in a measured manner, looking thoughtfully at the girl through her glass. - And I am pleasantly surprised that you have kept your word.

"Did you really have such a low opinion of me?" - With a surprised and frustrated expression asked the priestess.

"Well, you know. Creating a whole organization to confront me was not the best of decisions," - the queen of the elves glared at her, her tone sarcastic.

"You let monsters raid my people-what else could I do? I wanted the cause, not the effect, and I thought you were the cause," Celestine retorted with a fair degree of indignation."

"If I hadn't, my people would have been utterly lost, you know that yourself."

There was a silence. Both found each other's words to be true, and neither had any desire to continue their mutual recriminations. Not now that they were working together for the common good. And it didn't seem right to berate someone with whom they had been through several difficult experiences together. This little squabble was needed more as a distraction from the business at hand than to really hurt.

In silent agreement, the girls enjoyed the fresh air coming in from the open window and drank wine, filling their glasses from an arm's length bottle on a small table as they emptied.

"You know, I still can't believe all this..." - the high elf-woman spoke again unexpectedly.

"Believe what?" - The dark one looked at her with lazy interest.

"That we're sitting here, talking quietly, in my chambers. Or that I gave the order to kill so many people myself... It's as if I were awake. Or finally crawled out of the bottom of the well and saw what the world is really like..."

"You've grown up," - Olga concluded, interrupting the flow of her interlocutor's words. She looked at Celestine with approval and support, remembering her first conscious killing. Even though it had been a long time ago, the blood on her hands still felt fresh, and though she had since become a fearful and majestic Queen, thoroughly stale, that very first act of taking someone's life was still fresh in her memories.

"Yes..." - Celestine lowered her gaze to the floor sadly, draining a glass half full of alcohol at once. - "And it changed everything so much... Usually in my visions, by this point, we were all, or almost all, slaves of Vult. I was terrified, waiting for it to happen."

"What do you see now?" - Olga turned to her companion, staring intently into her green eyes. You could see the genuine interest in her own golden ones.

"Nothing."

"Nothing at all?"

"Last time was almost three months ago, before Kay showed up. Nothing since then. Perhaps the Goddess thought I didn't need them anymore, because I'd finally learned to take my own destiny in my own hands." - A faint, forced smile touched the blonde's face. - "Honestly, I always admired you. You were so strong... so bossy... doing things I never would have dared to do. Like a better version of myself. My hands were shaking when those scoundrels in the throne room died. Their screams are still in my head, and their faces, distorted in agony, flicker before my eyes."

"Don't overestimate me," - Olga smiled sadly and shook her head. - "My conceit almost cost me everything. I could have destroyed the Vult before he'd even approached the Citadel, but I felt it beneath my dignity to lay hands on him... the monsters can handle it! That's what I thought at the time. And you and I know where that led. And you... you're better than that. The fact that you feel regret proves it. The moment I fried those animals with lightning, I enjoyed it." - The girl drained her glass of wine and set it on the table with a soft clatter. - "I can no longer be the good girl who lived in peace and prosperity nine hundred years ago..."

"Hee-hee..." - the high elf suddenly laughed melodiously, glancing at her friend.

"What's so funny?" - The dark one grudgingly stared at her, narrowing her eyes dangerously. She had the impression she was being mocked while she listened quietly to what she had to say.

"We're two losers," - Celestine was not at all embarrassed by the reaction, or so she didn't notice it, since her cheeks and earlobes were ruddy with alcohol, "who have made many terrible mistakes and have yet to fall only because a man from nowhere came along.

Her drinking companion, however, was no better. The blush was even more noticeable on her dark skin, and the noise in her head from the wine she'd drunk was just as lubricating to the thoughts in her head, making them flow slowly and sometimes in interesting directions.

Like now, when she got the meaning of the priestess's statement, and for some reason it suddenly became very funny. The irony of their similarities in their apparent differences seemed very amusing to the sorceress, and a second later the room was filled with soft laughter. The witch's voice was very infectious, as the priestess joined her almost immediately.
