We went out under the approving glances of the dark elves in Delva's squad. They all heard the screaming coming from the mansion when we were alone with the little shit, and fully approved of what Chloe had done. It just so happens that the dark elves value each other very much, and would tear their throats out if one of them was hurt or threatened. Life in the wasteland on the remnants of former glory, and under the constant overlay of fear of monsters quickly accustomed them to mutual assistance.

Without saying a word to each other, we gathered in a group and set out for our next destination. There was still a lot of work to be done today.

Really, I don't envy those who come after us to clean up and collect trophies.

For the next three days, the town was turbulent. The residents, seeing many soldiers appearing on the street at one time, moving purposefully somewhere, and then hearing the sounds of battle from that place, rightly feared for their lives. A riot broke out among the population, which could have turned into a riot had we not taken this into account beforehand in our planning. So special squads of guards were sent out to patrol the streets, reassuring the people to stay indoors, promising them they would be safe and it would soon be over. In this they were well assisted by the nuns of the cult of Larentia, who at the first word of their leader and spiritual leader carried sermons to the people. Their content was simple: the goddess punishes sinners, and they, simple and honest workers, had nothing to fear.

Of course, not everything went perfectly, and in some places the guards had to scare or even cane the restless townsfolk under the roof, but, on the whole, they were almost no trouble at all. The vast majority calmed down and obeyed as soon as they saw one of the churchwardens. Celestine was much beloved among the people, and it bore fat fruit. I'm sure she wasn't even fully aware of the power she really had until then.

As for the purge, things were no longer going well. Somewhere the persecuted managed to escape, somewhere they managed to fight back, inflicting heavy losses on the loyal forces, after which they had to be stormed again, bringing in additional forces. Once again I was indispensable, going with a squad of dark elves to the most difficult places. Rumors about me came from Feoh, and now they have only increased, reinforcing my reputation as an unstoppable machine of death.

I'd met a few people I knew. The girls of the Order were heavily involved, except for Prim and Kaguya, who were not fighters. Grave was out there somewhere, too. The man was still lamenting the fact that he hadn't been initiated beforehand, but he seemed to have calmed down after participating in a few assaults and earning his share of fame.

When that was finally done with, cleaners and trophy teams entered the captured estates and mansions. The former owners no longer needed the property, but we will come in very handy in the coming months.

Losses, unfortunately, could not be avoided, so a burial ceremony was scheduled for the next day, combined with Celestine's speech in the central square of Eldan.

By noon everything was ready. A high platform specially designed for announcements was adorned with mourning symbols and Alliance banners. It was guarded by knights of the royal guard, clad in polished armor, and the people of the capital, from the poorest to the wealthiest and most powerful, were gathered before them. For the latter, there was a separate seat, where all the women of the Order were seated, as well as those of the nobility who had passed the louse test. One thing that surprised everyone was that the dark elves were here, too.

The bronze-skinned beauties caught the eyes of men and women alike. Many wondered what the representatives of this exotic people were doing here, because previously they were considered enemies. All differently treated this, some with indifference, some positively, and some with distrust. Unfortunately, these were the majority, because of the long years of politics of unclean hands.

But here came the moment everyone had been waiting for: Celestine appeared on the platform.

The crowd erupted with an approving roar at the sight of her. So many people came that it seemed as if the entire population of the capital had gathered to hear the reincarnation of their goddess. And so it was, in fact. After news of the attack on Feoh and the fighting in the city, fear had settled in Eldan itself, and people's hearts demanded the solace the elven priestess had brought. There were so many spectators that the stone-paved square was too small for them. Those who didn't have enough room peeked out of the windows of nearby houses, and even clung to the rooftops, just to hear their Goddess.

"My beloved citizens. I once swore allegiance to you and promised to protect you, your rights, and our common home. I said I would give you a better life of warmth, nourishment, and safety." - The girl paused for everyone to concentrate and hear the next words exactly. -" I failed."

A deafening silence hung over the square. The inhabitants could not believe what they heard. And in that silence Celestine continued to speak:

"Having created the Alliance of the Seven Shields to protect our borders, I did not look inward at all, self-confidently believing there was nothing to fear at home. Blinded by this confidence, I did not see the pestilence of treachery brewing right under my nose and intrigue weaving behind my back. Our noble nobles, those who should be an example to others, the best of the best, were mired in vice and debauchery. While I blamed all the troubles on the queen of the dark elves, Olga Discordia, they plundered my people, enslaved them, and mocked the innocent!" - Like a caring mother, Celestine looked at the people, at the trusting faces full of hope. Her voice was soft and gentle, but there was a power in it that she wanted to convey to the people. She seemed to put her whole soul into what she was saying. - "I was blind. And I apologize to all of you for not understanding your suffering for so long. But that is in the past. Now my eyes are open, thanks to the help of faithful friends, I have learned the truth! And then I realized, it can't go on like this..."
