Our little caravan was slowly but surely approaching the city gates. We were already close enough to be able to safely see several guards patrolling the wall, and a couple more strolling along the queue of several carts that lined up in a column in front of the gate. Surely they are conducting a search, and perhaps they charge an entrance fee.

Admittedly, I was a little nervous, after all, there was no confidence that we would be able to pass such a company at all. Our species literally screams that something is wrong with us. Of course, we changed our clothes to match the legend as much as possible, hid all the remarkable things that catch the eye, like my weapons and equipment, leaving only a pistol that can be easily hidden and even prepared money for a possible bribe, but seven dark elves are still seven dark elves, and far away it's not a fact that they will be passed, even if they call themselves my servant. It may even happen that they will try to capture them, so, just in case, I was ready to grab Olga and Chloe with a fight and run away. But, after all, such a course of events is very undesirable, because then our entire already unreliable plan will go down the drain, and the captives will most likely have to be abandoned in this case, which I would not want to do at all.

"Are you worried?" — Noticing something on my face, Olga asked, looking into my eyes.

"Not really." — I answered evasively. — "I'm just preparing for the worst in advance so that we won't be caught by surprise."

"I don't like all this either." — Chloe muttered, still offended by my ears. — "But we must succeed."

"I agree." — The queen nodded, looking at me encouragingly. — "Besides, you're not the only one getting ready. There is one interesting spell that is very useful in negotiations. It is complex and takes time to use, but if successful, it reduces the critical thinking of the one on whom it is imposed, so it will be easier to negotiate than you think."

"N-yes?" — I looked at her, frowning. — "Interesting."

An interesting ability. And very dangerous. It hasn't been used on me, has it? Surely not? It's not that I don't trust, but, as they say, God protects the safe.

[Martha?] — I mentally turn to my assistant.

[No, Carrier, there was no mental interference in your mind.] — Correctly understanding my interest, the AI replied.

Phew. It seems to be relieved. But we should not forget about this, because trust is trust, but Olga and I are only familiar with nothing, and first of all, she is a ruler who will use all available resources to achieve her goal.

"Do you suspect that I did something like that to you?" — Noticing my reaction, the elf asked. I nodded. And, instead of expressing dissatisfaction with my paranoia, she just smiled approvingly. — "That's right. I'd be disappointed in you if you didn't even think about it."

"Well, thank you." — I chuckled and asked: — "So what?"

"No." — the Queen shook her head. — "You yourself said that I'm no stranger to gratitude, and to cast such spells on you is a direct contradiction to this fact. Yes, and you also showed yourself from the best side, and if I need something from you, I'll just ask."

"That's good!" — Pleased with her answer, I turned away to the road and met the eyes of Chloe, pouting with indignation, in whose gaze it was read: "How dare you doubt the Lady, you villain!"

"Don't sulk, you'll burst." — I tease the girl with a smile, getting ready to admire her reaction. Last time I liked to bring her to vivid emotions so much that I want to repeat it again and again.

"P-f-f-f!!!" — She almost choked, angrily staring at me with her scarlet eyes. — "Cad!"

And she turned away proudly. For the second time today, yes. After exchanging glances with Olga, we restrained ourselves for a while, and then we laughed together in two voices, driving the poor blonde into a blush.

On such a cheerful note, we drove up to the gate, standing at the end of the queue. A guard dressed in plate armor and armed with a spear immediately went to us.

"And so, everyone remembers their role?" — The Queen asked in a low voice, so that only we could hear, to which Chloe and I nodded silently. — "Great, then let's start the show."

"Chloe. Check how the girls are." — I picked up, "taking command." With a short bow, she went outside, heading for the second cart, leaving me sitting on the box alone.

"Olya" — I turn to the eldest elf — "Be on the alert."

"Yes, my lord." — The girl answered in a languid voice, giving me such a look that I felt hot and I hurried to turn away.

"We'll talk about "Olya" separately later..." — I heard a whisper in my back.

She is a devil.

Meanwhile, the guard had already approached us.

"Good evening, dear!" — I waved my hand in greeting.

"Good afternoon." — He answered me without much enthusiasm, stopping. — "For what purpose did you come to our city?"

"To trade a little." — I pull my hand out from under my cloak and fold my fingers, enumerating. — "Get some rest. Maybe even buy a house and stay here for a long time — it's all up to chance."

"You really look like the gentleman who can afford a house ..." — the man nodded, looking at me. — "But it's none of my business. I just want to warn you,"

He added, lowering the timbre of his voice to give weight to his words. — "Settling on the border may be a bad idea — the places here are dangerous and monster raids happen quite often."

"The walls will help." — Squinting at the rather impressive fortifications, I say. — "And the rest will follow."

"I see." — He did not comment on my words, finally getting down to business. — "It is necessary to conduct an inspection."

"Of course." — I respond and jump to the ground under the watchful gaze of the guard. Together with him, we walked around the cart, where I opened the curtain in front of him, covering the body of the cart.

— Nothing illegal in appearance. — He summed up, looking around the crates of food that we took with us to create the appearance of the goods. Although, some of this may be possible to sell, who knows. — "Hmm, and this?"

He pointed with his hand at Olga, who was sitting next to him.

"Servants." — I waved my hand. — "You know, traveling alone is pretty boring. Olya, say hello."

"Good evening." — The beauty tilted her head.

"Heh, I understand." — With his hands on his hips, the guard winked at me, not forgetting to slide his eyes over the figure of my woman, which made me want to hit him very painfully. — "Well, I think everything is fine here."

"Are we going to the next one?" — I drag him along with me so that he doesn't stare. For fuck's sake.

"Yes, exactly." — Reluctantly, he followed me.

I walked deliberately slowly, going over in my head the options for how I would explain to him the presence of six more dark elves. But we did not have time to reach it, as from the direction from which we came, we heard the tramp of many horses' hooves.

"Who is that there?" — The guard took two steps to the side so that the cart would not block the view. And when he saw it, his eyes widened in shock. — "Oh, Goddess! The royal carriage!"

In a hurry, he rushed back to the gate, throwing me one last time. — "I beg your pardon, sir!"

At the same time, a horn blew from the wall, notifying the city of the distinguished guests. A minute later, a procession of, offhand, fifty horsemen in expensive armor stopped next to us, even in appearance of higher quality than anything I had seen here before. They were accompanied by a white carriage, richly decorated with gold with four white stallions in a team. Here, the carriage door opened and a woman got out of it to the ground. She was dressed in a light white dress that did not hide her hips and stomach in any way. Only a thin strip of fabric does not allow you to see the most intimate in the open. Voluminous, even larger than Olga's, chest swayed when landing in time with long, light hair to the waist, from which elf ears protruded. The woman's green eyes roamed the space in front of her, as if searching for something until they bumped into me, after which they froze, digging into my face.

Not noticing anything around her, she walked briskly, almost breaking into a run and ignoring the excited requests of her guards to wait, headed in my direction,

After her, a red-haired girl got out of the carriage and, seeing where the elf was going, ran after her.

"Mistress Celestine! Where are you going?!" — Lagging half a step behind the elf, the girl tried to call her, but was completely ignored.

Celestine? So that's what she looks like. I don't understand anything. Why is she rushing at me like an icebreaker, boring at the same time with such a look, as if I am the Messiah in the flesh?

When the distance between us was less than a meter, Celestine stopped, folding her hands under her chest in a prayer gesture. Beads of tears appeared in the corners of her eyes, and her lips trembled, giving out a barely audible whisper. — "I found you…"

The answer to her was a quiet fucking of me and her escort.

"Excuse me?" — Having coped with the shock, I finally asked. In response, silence. She was still staring at me, frozen in one pose. I wated for a second. Two. Three... clearly, the subscriber is unavailable.

"Maybe you can explain what this means?" — Without waiting for Celestine's answer, I turn to her companion for help. She looks to be in her early twenties. Short, red hair just below the ears, the same eyes. On the forehead, covered with bangs, a thin bandage made of black fabric. On her hands are black gloves without fingers. She is dressed in something resembling an orange closed swimsuit with a fur collar, unbuttoned almost to the navel, showing an impressive bust. Not the same, of course, as with Olya or Celestine frozen by a salt column, but she can compete with Chloe quite confidently. On her feet... oh, my God, how should I call it?

What's wrong with women's clothing here? As my dark elves at the first meeting, as these two are dressed well too openly. And this is in the order of things. Naturally, I don't mind enjoying the view, but... it's strange. However, not the point. So, on her feet she has something blue, resembling a hybrid of stockings and pants. That is, according to the cut, these are pants, but because of the lack of any fabric in the groin area, except for a thin strip that holds this incomprehensible construction together, these are stockings. Well, at least her boots are quite normal, a little below the knee with a beautiful pattern in the shin area. On the belt, in addition to the above strip of fabric from, ahem, God forgive me, "pants", there is also a wide leather belt with a metal buckle and a pair of swords in a sling. In general, a very pretty person. And she keeps well, although she is surprised by the behavior of her boss, she does not forget to control the environment, paying special attention to me as the nearest potential source of danger. I approve.

"To be honest, I have no idea." — The girl looks anxiously at me, then at the priestess. Or is it still a goddess? It doesn't matter. — "And I apologize if I caused you any inconvenience."

"No, on the contrary, I am pleased with the attention of such beautiful people as you." — I gave the redhead a smile. She, however, almost did not react to this in any way. Only the lips for a second depicted a semblance of a smile, informing me that the compliment was received positively. An ordinary person wouldn't have noticed that either. However, what an unexpected plus in being a super soldier. Especially in light of the recent changes in my body, because by carefully monitoring women's facial expressions, I will be able to better understand when they like what I do. And if all the women I have met continue to wear such clothes, this skill will be very useful to me ... — "But I would like to know its reason."

I am doing the same thing now and have already managed to notice how the guards who arrived with them are slowly, as if "casually" dispersing around, taking us into a ring. But they don't come too close, are they waiting or are they afraid of harming? Not the point, let them be there, it will be easier to deal with what is happening here. And where is Olga there? Otherwise, when it comes to exchanging names, I'll sink into the ground out of shame. The devil pulled to be called Tom Cruise…

"I'm also very interested." — Saved! After all, this voice from behind belongs to Olga, which means I won't have to pretend to be a major.

"My Queen." — Turning sideways, I meet her. — "You're just in time."

And how her eyes sparkled when I called her that. Just for a moment, but my accelerated perception helped me to notice it, as well as that fleeting smile addressed to me.

But only to me. To others, she now looked like a proud and domineering dark elf, simply overwhelming with her mere presence. In general, everyone tensed up, and the redhead, and the guards, and even Celestine came out of her stupor. After all, everyone knows that there is only one Queen among the dark elves.

"What an interesting company you've found yourself, Kay." — she drawled, catching up with me.  — "It's been a long time, Celestine."

"Olga Discordia..." — No wonder they know each other.

The redhead's hands reached for the weapon, but halfway there I was right next to her, grabbing her wrists. I nipped the attempt to escape in the bud, taking advantage of the superiority in physical strength, I simply turned her back to me and fixed her hands, holding them with one of my own, while the second lay on her stomach.

— "Lady Maya!"

— "Bastard! Let her go!"

The guards immediately became alarmed, drawing their weapons. They react slowly, but now I know the name of the beauty in my hands.

"Don't get rowdy." — I warned, peering over my shoulder into the eyes wide open in surprise. — "Maya."

"Let me go..." — the girl said through her teeth, snorting and unsuccessfully trying to free herself. She even tried to drive the back of her head into my nose and step on my foot, which of course I didn't let her do.

"Nope." — I winked, continuing to hold tight. — "But I'm ready to discuss this issue if you'll be a good girl and don't poke at me with your scar-r-ry irons.

— "Don't be cocky! I don't know what you are trying to achieve, but you are surrounded, it's better to surrender yourself and then…"

I had an answer prepared for the phrase she was supposed to finish, but I didn't have time to voice it.

"Maya." — A soft, iridescent voice made the militant lady stop in mid-sentence. The source of the voice was Celestine, whose appearance no longer resembled a human... sorry, an elf on the verge of hysteria. Whatever caused her condition, she quickly recovered. — "Stop it. We won't fight."

"And you too!" — Raising her voice, she addressed the soldiers. — "I'm safe! Olga Discordia and everyone who came with her are my guests! Treat them appropriately."

"B-but Mistress Celestine, are you sure?" And what if they..." — Maya babbled, but stopped again, under the kind gaze of the elf.

"Maya." — She smiled at her motherly. — "I appreciate your concern, but there's really no danger."

"As you command ..." — Maya clearly did not understand what was happening, but she obeyed.

"Haven't you heard? Put away your weapons!" — She ordered the soldiers, who with obvious reluctance, but began to carry out the order.

"And now will you let me go?" — This is for me.

"Eh, okay." — With some regret, I released the girl, finally tickling her tummy with my fingers, which is why I was awarded a burning look in my direction.

"I couldn't resist ..." — I imitated the guilty, spreading my hands.

"I'm glad we've resolved this little misunderstanding." — Olga said. — "Since we are your guests, would you give us a room, Your Holiness? We are tired from the road."

"Of course." — The light elf agreed. — "Make yourself at home."

"In that case, we will return to transport." — The dark elf nodded, and then looked at me ... well, disapprovingly. — "Kay, did you enjoy the company of the glorious maiden from the Order of the Seven Sisters?"

I don't understand, is she jealous? Me? Yes... yes not... yes la-a-adno! Uh-uh!!!

— "Then let's go."

"Come on." — And we went. And Celestine and Maya went too.

— [Carrier, do you want to mate with Olga Discordia again?]

[Leave me alone, provocateur, I'm happy!] — Hehe, you can't take me for the second time with one tease!

"Hey, Maya!" — Turning around, I call the girl before we go far apart.

"What?" — She asks frowningly, stopping.

"Glad to meet you!" — And, without waiting for an answer, I go on.

Approaching the cart, I help Olga to climb in and sit down next, then I give my hand to the concentrated Chloe, who has been watching us all this time and kept the others from panicking.

"I don't know what she forgot here, but it's even easier this way." — Said the Queen, sitting down in an armchair.

"That's for sure." — I replied.

Later. Olga Discordia

Following the maid into the dining room, Olga pondered.

The lion's share of her thoughts was occupied by Kay. A man from another planet who suddenly appeared in the Citadel and saved her and Chloe from Vult. Over the past weeks, she had time to study him and came to ambiguous conclusions: he did not give a damn about the issue of his own freedom and benefits. Even when he found out that he had been called to her defense against his will. He didn't set conditions, He didn't demand anything. Olga has been puzzling for a long time about what this is connected with, looking for any opportunity to catch him in a lie or somehow catch a selfish motive or attempts to evade imposed obligations, but ... nothing! He took it as something that was self-implied. During her long life, a woman has met a lot of all kinds of reasonable people, and each of them, absolutely everyone, no matter how light motives he was guided by and no matter how he advocated for the common good, he necessarily took care of himself. But not Kay. He didn't seem to care at all.

His stories about his past partly shed light on this view of life, but still a lot did not add up. A person who has been raised as a weapon since childhood cannot be so alive! Olga saw slaves who were trained for the same purpose, but there were either dummies with a liquefied brain, or stupid berserkers, depending on the training methods. But Kay is smart, has a sense of humor and has empathy, which is only worth his attitude to Chloe. He immediately noticed that there was something wrong with her, although he knew nothing about her life. It doesn't happen that easily!

Even the knowledge of the ancient highly developed civilization of the ancestors of her people did not capture the mind of a woman as much as this man. After all, it was possible to check the words of a strange entity calling itself Martha only by returning to the tower. But Kay is here, all the time next to Olga.

There is another point, noticing which, Olga could not accept for a long time. She had been drawn to him ever since the flood of his dense, powerful magical power had overwhelmed her during her escape from the Citadel. At that moment, having been completely exhausted before, she forgot how to breathe, feeling the power filling her, giving a feeling of euphoria and excitement. Everything finally fell into place after a recent incident on the road, when he announced in his everyday and simple manner that he would serve her. Only then, touching him and inhaling his scent, did she realize that she wanted more. No man in a thousand years could make her even think about it, but he did.

And all the stronger was her irritation when he groped this red-haired girl!

Besides... a number of unpleasant facts may come up in the upcoming conversation. She is not a holy nun, there is a lot of blood on her hands and there are enough skeletons in the closet, otherwise you simply cannot achieve the position that she occupied recently. And she really didn't want to fall in his eyes. So that instead of admiring her, he would look at her with condemnation, or, even worse, with the indifference with which he cut out the scum in the tower. Not only because it risks losing a valuable ally, but also for a completely different reason…

And this means that she will do her best to ensure that this never happens.

***

After a very extravagant acquaintance with the High priestess, we were invited to the castle-residence of Princess Alicia, where we were allocated rooms for the night and invited to dinner, which should also become a venue for negotiations. Using the bathroom and changing clothes, I sat on the bed until the appointed time, laying out in my mind what and how to say and do. Olga and I have already consulted on this matter earlier, but now the situation has changed. Unfortunately, it was not possible to discuss everything again due to the fact that the girls need much more time to bring themselves into proper shape, and we only had two hours of it, so we will have to navigate along the way.

And so, when a pretty maid in a revealing outfit invited me to follow her, I took with me a notebook with interesting contents found at the slavers and left the room, led by the girl through the corridors of the castle. Briefly turned on thermal vision confirmed the presence of a couple of armed guards nearby, assigned to me on arrival. A reasonable precaution.

My path ended in front of a carved double-leaf door decorated with gold, where Olga and Chloe were already there, who were ahead of me for a very short time. Against my will, my gaze slid over the figures of dark elves wearing clothes similar to the one I met them in the Tower, only clean and undamaged. And of course, as usual, it leaves no room for imagination at all. I just put on a spare set of uniforms, getting rid of armor and weapons on the road. They were now safely hidden among things, waiting in the wings. I did leave something behind: gloves enchanted by Olya. And they are not so conspicuous, and I will not remain unarmed, which helps to feel more confident in a conditionally hostile territory.

The faces of the companions did not express any emotions, remaining cold. The very thing for negotiations.

A few moments later, the doors creaked, revealing a view of a long table filled with all kinds of snacks and drinks, in front of which Celestine was already waiting for us, along with Maya, who was already familiar to me, and two other girls. One of them, apparently, is the same princess that Olga told me about, but who the second one is still to be found out.

"Once again, welcome to Feoh." — The elf greeted us as the servants went out the door, closing it tightly behind them. — "Let me introduce myself for those who don't know me yet."

"An unreadable look in my direction." — "My name is Celestine Lucculus, the high priestess of the goddess of light. And also those who are present here with me."

She stepped aside, revealing a view of the girls. — "You have already met Maya."

And her friendliness did not increase one iota in her gaze.

"This is Alicia Arcturus. The crown princess and protector of this city." — A blonde with lilac eyes appeared in front of us in a kind of cross between an open dress and armor, as indicated by decorative shoulder pads and a strange metal headdress. she is nervous, although she tries not to show it, hiding it behind a high chin and an emphatically arrogant look.

"And finally, Prim Fiorire. The princess's cousin." — The girl named least of all here looked like a person who was somehow involved in no matter how serious matters. A round, almost childish face framed by pink hair, against which large blue eyes, full of benevolence and timid interest, stand out very much. She looked very nice and clean. I even smiled looking at her. — "They are all members of the Order of the Seven Shields and my most trusted people. Everything that can be said in front of me can be said in front of them too."

After the performance from our side, the first thirty minutes were spent silently eating. Quite tasty, by the way. At the same time, there were not a thousand and one types of cutlery on the table, as was customary in the Earthly culture of the nobility. All this time, the game of staring between the fair sex did not stop, or rather, not quite a game, but drilling the three of us full of suspicion and poorly concealed hostility from the opposite side. However, not everyone distinguished themselves by this: Prim was just eating, with interest leading her expressive blue eyes over us, and Celestine was again somewhere else. However, no one from our side, if I may say so, supported this struggle.

And so, when the formalities were over, it was time to talk.

— "We have recently received news that the Black Dog mercenary group hired by Lady Celestine has defeated you, Your Majesty." — "Alicia asked.

"It is." — The Queen replied sedately, taking a sip of tea from a cup.

"And you came to surrender?" — The girl made a logical conclusion.

"No." — the laconic answer sounded.

"No?" — Everyone was surprised, except, perhaps, the high priestess. It seems that she knows something. If the information about her prophetic skills is correct, then it most likely is. It's not just that she behaves so strangely. — "Please explain."

"Of course." — Olga nodded. The empty cup landed on the saucer with a soft clink. — "We're here to warn you. And make an alliance."

"Warn about what?" — Maya chimed in.

"We have already been well warned about your defeat. And it looks as if having lost your hordes of monsters, you shamefully escaped, using the help of a traitor." — A pejorative look in my direction. — "And decided to hide in the territory of the enemy, who has been terrorized by ypu for many years. But you were unlucky, and thanks to the gift of Lady Celestine, you were discovered. So what kind of union can we talk about? What kind of warning?"

The girl was getting more and more excited. — "After all that you have done, you have only the right to surrender and wait for the trial!"

"And you brought up the topic of betrayal just in time." — I decided to say my own word.

"What do you mean?" — "She asked, aggressively staring at me."

"Should I tell them, or you will?" — I turn to Olga.

"Go on." — With an indifferent expression on her face, she replied.

"As you see, we really ran away. Took off with our legs tucked under our tails, if you like. — But that's not the main thing. The main thing is that your "Black Dog" will be back soon. Not as saviors, but as conquerors. You paid them to become their slaves. We want to warn you about this." — I replied.

"Nonsense!" — The redhead immediately flared up. — "I have known Vult for many years, we have been on more than one campaign with him and shed blood together! He would never do such a thing!"

That's how, so they're, like, friends with him. Oh, and you choose your shitty friends, girl.

— "So you don't know him well."

"Shut up!" — Loudly hitting the table with her fists and making all the dishes on it jump, she jumped to her feet, shouting furiously at me. — "I swear, one more word, and I…"

"It's true." — Celestine's voice echoed through the room.

"What..?" — Maya seemed to have bumped into a wall, after which she slowly and somehow jerkily looked at the priestess. — "Ms. Celestine... please... tell me that you made a mistake?!"

"Everything our guests say is true. I saw it." — The light elf finished off the girl. And with her, the princess and her sister.

It was as if a rod had been pulled out of her shirt. With a heavy sigh, she collapsed back into her chair, covering her face with her hands. A second later, sobs were heard: — No ... how so… He couldn't... couldn't…

"And you finally decided to pull your head out of your ass and do something? — Very timely. But I expected less." — Olga asked Celestine.

"Of all the possible scenarios, only one gives us at least some chance. And he's connected to you." — It was obvious to the naked eye how hard words were given to her. — "Until I saw him, I was depressed. I am very ashamed of this."

Suddenly she abruptly stood up and bent in a deep bow, surprising us all. — "Please help us! You're our only chance."

"There are a number of conditions." — Our queen allowed herself a victorious smile. Having come here, she did not think that her opponents would turn out to be petitioners.

"Anything." — Celestine lowered her head even more.

"We need to send the news to all the free cities!" — Waking up from a stupor, Alicia flared up. — "We will gather people and…"

"What kind of people, girl?" Olga asked, adding venom to her voice. — "You gave up your own army, leaving everything at the mercy of mercenaries. And the forces of your "great" order will not be enough even for one battle. Do you know how many monsters were in my army?" — She asked a question, to which she immediately gave an answer: — "Enough to sweep you away, and now nothing keeps them from it, they will come to you together with Vult. Moreover, he is not the only traitor. You have lost your country so much that every second aristocrat is either already in cahoots with him, or is ready to join at any moment."

Her every word was like a hammer hitting the girls sitting opposite, driving them into despondency and horror. They finally realized what could be waiting for them all

"But... but what are we going to do?" — It was scary to look at Prim. In search of support, she darted her gaze around the room, stopping at her sister. — "Sister Alicia?"

"First of all, take your time." — I began to list the options. — "Any careless action will lead to terrible consequences, especially when you are in such a state. Secondly, find out for sure who is loyal to you and who is not, notify them and start preparing. Secretly, so as not to give himself away. And, thirdly, to withstand the first blow. It will be applied soon and will have to be on this city. If we manage to survive, it will hit Vult hard. He is now like the barbarian leaders of antiquity, whose power holds while he is successful. We will deprive him of high-profile victories, and half the work has already been done."

"But I think it's too late to make plans today." — Olya supported me. — "If it's not too late to build them at all…"

"Yes. I suggest we finish today and meet again tomorrow." — Having correctly assessed the situation, the light elf agreed — "Some of us need to come to our senses and calm our minds."

There were no dissenters with the proposal.

Just when I was about to leave the hall, accompanied by the servants to go to my room, I was caught by the hand.

"Come to me in an hour." — Said Olga, who did it. — "There is an important conversation."
