Alas, we have reached the end of this wonderous little book. Did you enjoy the window into my heart? I must say, thank you for all the support and love. Thank you for supporting my artistic pursuits and reading this book.

It was a crazy ride editing this anthology. I wanted it to be really long but a lot of content I wrote was too outdated, depressing or made no sense! So editing was a rollercoaster and I ended up making a rather short but still lovely little book.

I hope to write a part two one day and continue writing books that inspire people and entertain my readers. :D Please make sure to follow me on Instagram and other social media for updates and to see what I’m working on!

For those of you who are wondering, I named my anthology series Kuroneko Diaries because I always used to write my stories, poems and feelings in a diary that I kept hidden under my pillow.

Nowadays, I just write things on my laptop but in the past before technology was such a sensation, I used to write things in notebooks and diaries very often. Writing has always been my biggest stress relief and outlet to exploring my emotions and handling my feelings.

Nonetheless, I chose the term “kuro neko”, the Japanese words for black cat because I often feel like a black cat. Black cats are mysterious, misunderstood, loved by only a select few and catty as can be.  And I wholeheartedly related to that sentiment. I’m not always a sweet little kitten, I hiss and claw too.

But if you get to know me, I’m a pretty chill feline. I’ve always took comfort in nature and animals, cats being my favorite animal and black cats being the love of my life. So, when writing this series, it was natural to include this theme into my book somehow.

I was going to use all English but that was already done by other authors so I had to get creative. Being a huge nerd that I am and an Asian lady I was motivated to be extra geeky. Therefore, my inner otaku chose a few Japanese words instead. Kuro is the Japanese word for black, and neko is the Japanese word for cat. And that is how I came up with the book titled “Kuroneko Diaries”.

While I myself am Asian, I admit I am not Japanese but I do adore the Japanese culture and language very much. Hence the penname, Riri-sensei. This name comes from my nickname Ririchi, which was inspired by one of my favorite manga artists and author Cocoa Fujiwara.

Originally, I began using the nickname Ririchi since 2012 but after her passing in 2015, I started using the nickname Ririchi more frequently in remembrance of her legacy. As time passed, I liked the name a lot so I decided to go with it for my pen name as well. Thus, Riri-sensei was born.

Anyways, I have deviated from the topic quite a bit but I hope you enjoyed this book and I look forward to seeing you again in volume 2.

Thank you so much for reading Kuroneko Diaries volume 1. Have a lovely day, bye for now everyone! :D

~Riri-sensei
