From the author

This is his story.

Lance wondered if everyone had tasted the ash... or if this were just another Los Santos origin story.

"So," you could tell Double D was smirking as he said this, "you're basically telling me you're looking for dem nuts?" The deputy on the other side of the bank's front doors chuckled loud enough to be heard. It was the first indication he had been listening to the exchange.

"Papa's nuts," Sai elaborated, "yeah."

"Oh god," you could hear the other deputy gagging, "Christ!"

"You want to help me?" Sai egged him on.

"Actually," Double D saved his colleague, "We are here to help you." He lengthened that last word to add emphasis.

"Yeah we're here to help you sir, exactly." Little D added. The deputy still hadn't identified himself.

"Well then," Sai gestured with his firearm, "come on inside and help me search. There are a lot of lockboxes here."

"Nope," Double D responded quickly. "We won't be going in today."

From Lances right, "I already got through all of the lockboxes." Baghead was there, weapon drawn and pistol aimed at Lance's head.

"Well did you get the cum condom?" Sai asked.

Baghead responded quickly, "Indeed I did."

Sai took a step forward and addressed the deputies, "Well then I guess we're just waiting for that car across the street to finish repairs and then we'll get the hell out of 'ere." A bit of an accent shone through his facade.

The deputies both looked across the street at the police car getting repaired, then Double D spoke up, "Look. You're just dealing with us. No one is coming to help us. Just give us the hostage, unharmed, and you're free to go."

Lance liked the sound of that.

So did Baghead and Sai.

Sai spoke quickly, "Lance has been well taken care of. I, Sai Carter, have actually given him a flyer for my gun emporium."

"That so?" Double D responded.

"Yup," Sai answered quickly.

"Isn't Sai Carter African American, though?" Double D asked.

"No..." Sai's facade slipped a bit more.

Little D called into the bank, "Hostage are you doing ok in there?"

"Yeah, I'm alright," Lance called out.

"Well are you well fed?" Double D asked. "Do you need any food or water?"

"He could probably use some food," Baghead chimed in. "We found him digging through the trash."

"You guys..." Double D cocked his head, turning to get a better look at the criminals. "You guys took a homeless man hostage?"

"He literally got out of the ICU for starving," Baghead added.

Double D cracked the door opened and tossed a sandwich and water in for Lance. He could hear him under his breath, "Seriously... a homeless man? That's shitty..."

As if destined by fate, hail began falling from the sky.

"Would you guys like to wait in 'ere? We might be awhile?" Baghead chuckled.

"I wouldn't mind staying inside," Lance muttered.

"I'm fine," Double D responded. "My clothes are water proof." Thunder exploded in response and lightning lit up the sky.

"Thunder storm... oh boy," Little D laughed.

Lance took this time to eat the sandwich that was handed to him. Hastily, he stuffed it in his mouth, barely tasting it. "Go ahead," Baghead nudged him to finish. "We don't need you passing out." He then spoke to the deputies, "So what? Is it really just you two responding to this?"

"Like we said," Little D responded. "We're very limited right now."

"So many calls," Double D added.

"Let me ask you something. Do you guy just wake up with the sudden urge to do crime?" Little D asked, not expecting a real answer.

"Yeah," Baghead answered. "Basically."

"Gotta pay the bills," Sai added from behind.

"They're criminals, alright?" Double D answered for them. "They're addicted to crime, man."

"Career criminals..." Little D sounded distraught.

Suddenly darkness overtook the scene. Colors and sounds muted. The lights of the cars became the only source of light. An eerie shriek, like metal across metal, sounded from everywhere at once.
