“It’s possible. We can do it if you help me,” Elena whispered, barely hiding her nervousness. ‘If Lenoa decides not to help and tell Lydia about me being here…’ She began to doubt herself, her heart pounding uncontrollably the longer Lenoa remained quiet.

Just as Elena decided that she couldn’t wait any longer, Lenoa murmured, “There are about 50 soldiers in the castle. Lydia asked Logan for escort knights, but he refused.”

“Is that true?”

The two women whispered back and forth, standing in front of the searing stove and pretending to make it seem like the madam was supervising the new maid stirring the ladle in the pot.

“Logan has lost four battles already, so he couldn’t give up a single knight for Lydia. The only reason he has been safe until now is because of the knights protecting him, but it’s also the drawbridge to the castle. Raising it allows him to avoid any attacks coming from the other side.”

‘The drawbridge,’ Elena noted. Lenoa continued to explain that earlier that day, Logan pushed Gareth back with his knights, fled into the castle, and raised the drawbridge at the earliest sign of things not swinging in his favor.

‘If we could raise the drawbridge while Logan is on the other side to prevent him from retreating…’ Elena knew her idea was dangerous as there were still 50 soldiers standing guard in the castle. The maids here did not stand a chance against even a single soldier.

‘We need to take care of the soldiers first,’ Elena decided. She announced her thoughts out loud, “We’ll gain control over the soldiers tomorrow morning when Logan leaves the castle.”

Lenoa was taken aback by Elena’s determined words. “How will you do that? How can we gain control over them?”

Elena whispered, her attention still focused on the pot of soup in front of her. “I have some fly mushroom extract. It causes hallucinations.”

Lenoa recalled their first meeting, how Elena had hurriedly picked mushrooms that could be used as medicine and had given it to her. Even then, she could tell that Elena was well versed in different types of mushrooms and their effects.

“I don’t have much, though, so we’ll use it only on the soldiers. That will make our plan possible.”

“Okay, then I’ll tell all the soldiers to have breakfast in the hall tomorrow morning. They have been eating the knights’ leftovers, so I’m sure they’ll be thrilled about this news.”

“…Lenoa, you’ve become very strong,” Elena complimented. She was genuinely impressed by how tenacious the tender-hearted woman had become. It was all thanks to Lenoa that her younger sisters were alive and well, and her plan tomorrow hinged on Lenoa as well.

“I’ve learned everything from you,” Lenoa replied with a faint smile. She had been surprised since she thought Elena would ask her for help to go see her sisters. However, she didn’t do so. Instead, she said she would meet her after their plan had succeeded tomorrow. Lenoa thought back to how Elena had gritted her teeth while speaking; she was someone from whom she could learn a lot. “And there’s a lot more to learn from now on,” Lenoa added.

Elena’s face became slightly flushed.

Without a break, William climbed the steep slope to approach the Townsend estate. Oblivious about Gareth’s whereabouts, he stepped into the castle to realize the mercenary was nowhere to be found. Instead, there were soil-covered bodies sprawled throughout the hall. The knight ended up kneeling in despair at such a sight for a moment before continuing his search.

He finally managed to find Gareth after many hours of fervently searching—the mercenary was building barracks at the frontier facing the drawbridge to Logan’s castle. For a moment, William became envious of Gareth and his 11 men who were bold enough to attack Logan. To be exact, he envied their courage.

Spotting Giggs shortly after, William gladly ran to the man, shouting, “Giggs! It’s William!”

Giggs, who turned to him, hastily signaled him to be quiet.

Unaware of the situation , William called again, “Giggs!” He was simply glad to finally have found his allies.
