I breathed a sigh of relief when I finally reached Azure Sky.
"Thank you." I gave the concierge guy a tip for helping me carry all the shopping bags in front of my door.
"Anytime, Miss Lee." The guy smiled before he strode away.
I grabbed my card, swiped it on the card slot, and shoved myself inside.
"Welcome home."
SLAM!
I closed the door and swiped my card again.
"Are you hungry? I've prepared dinner."
I rubbed my eyes and shook my head. I swept my eyes around, making sure that I was in the right unit.
This is my unit. Which means––
Before my brain could process what was happening, Cain, who was just sitting in my dining area, was now hugging me.
"I miss you . . ." Without warning, he captured my lips with his.
I was jolted awake when his tongue entered my mouth. I pulled away and gaped at him.
"C-Cain? W-what are you doing here?!"
He looked at me with fake confusion. "What do you mean?"
I glared at him. "You know what I mean. I won't even ask how you entered my unit, but what are you doing here? You're supposed to be in New York!"
Cain tilted his head, and his lips stretched in a lazy grin that I found both charming and alarming.
"Didn't I say that I'll accompany you in New Haven."
I stared at him with eyes wide. My mouth opened and closed, didn't know what to say.
Cain raised an eyebrow. "Did you honestly believe that after I escorted you, I'll just leave you here all alone?"
When I didn't answer, he laughed a bit and pulled me in a tight hug. He sniffed my hair and trailed hot kisses down to my neck.
My body was bursting from the unbearable heat as he sucked my skin.
"I'll be staying here in New Haven and accompany you from now on."
I pushed him, and he let me go. I took a step back and stared at him, wide eyes.
"What are you talking about? What about your work in New York?"
"It's only forty minutes in a helicopter," he said matter of factly. He grabbed all of my shopping bags and carried them inside.
I followed behind him, still flustered in confusion.
Alright, I should have known this would happen.
As soon as he placed all the shopping bags in the living area, he grabbed my hand and pulled me into my bedroom. "You should take a bath first before eating dinner."
I roused from my momentary loss of self when a large Rimowa suitcase caught my sight. I shook my hand from his grasp and pointed my finger at it.
"What's this?"
"A suitcase."
I rolled my eyes. "I know it's a suitcase, but what's it doing here in my room?"
He shrugged. "I'll be sleeping here with you from now on."
He reached out and grabbed my hand, but I recoiled, backing away.
"Cain . . . ," I looked at him with a solemn face.
"I don't want cohabitation before marriage," I said, word for word, making him understand each word.
Cain shot me a mischievous smile, and like time was on his side, he closed the distance between us. He grabbed my hands, stroking them with his thumbs as his eyes never left mine.
"Leanna . . . , this is not cohabitation. It's called sleepover."
. . .
. . .
Like hell it is!
----
[Sleepover]
"Cain, if you want to sleepover, I have two vacant rooms. Choose whichever room you like."
Cain stared into my eyes, wanting to see if I would waver.
"Alright," he said after a while.
He went and grabbed his suitcase before throwing me a flat look.
"I'll wait for you outside." Then he went out.
I sighed and shook my head, a bit helpless.
I'm delighted and excited that he'll stay with me in New Haven. But the man should tone down his actions a bit. My weak heart couldn't catch up!
----
"You make yourself comfortable. I'll go ahead and sleep," I said, voice cleaving the stillness that settled between us after we finished eating and washed the dishes.
I have to escape. My control is no match against his allure!
Cain was sporting a simple V-neck sweatshirt and loose pants. But his sex appeal was overflowing and had my saliva working overtime that I had to gulped many times so it wouldn't overflow from my mouth.
I always slept with a t-shirt on, but now, I was forced to wear underwear and a complete set of pajama. Yet, the way he stared at me made me rubbed my thighs.
I couldn't stand his heated gaze any longer and quickly went in the comfort of my bedroom. Fortunately, he didn't say anything nor stop me. I locked the door, just in case, and took off my underwear. I can't sleep with a bra and panties on.
I laid on my bed, covered myself with a blanket, and closed my eyes.
. . .
. . .
I can't sleep!
I tossed and turned, finding a comfortable position to no avail.
After an hour, I gave up and was about to turn on the television when I heard my door unlocked.
I froze.
My heart beat faster and faster as I pretended to be asleep. But with all the silence, the thumping of my heart could very well scream that I was awake.
I shifted sideways, didn't want to see him. It's less awkward that way.
Cain removed the blanket and climbed on the bed. He scooted next to me and covered ourselves with the blanket. His movements were slow and careful like he didn't want to disturb me.
His warmth spread across my back. His leg hugged mine like a pillow as his arm wrapped its way around my waist.
I felt his hot breath on my hair, and my hairs stood on end. I knew he felt the violent beating of my heart, beckoning I was awake, yet he didn't say anything.
In the end, my body relaxed, finding comfort in the heat and protection he gave off, and my eyes closed.
