Part 2: Reunion of monsters
“When am I going to see something other than snow?” This is getting irritating. “HOW MUCH LONGER!”. I have been walking for to long; I had a lot of energy at the start while running down the mountain, but as time passed, most of my energy and excitement went with it. The way Capti framed it, I thought I would only have to walk a little, but nooo, it’s just walking.
I could get to the top of the mountain to leave Draga quickly enough, so it seems my little house was closer to the top of the hill. I guess Capti made it further to his destination than he thought. I don’t feel like losing to him, so I start running.
“Just watch Capti. I am going to have lots of fun,” but as I am running, I bump into something, which causes me to trip and fall face first into the snow. “Ouch, what was that,” as I turn around to look, I see an adult man with scars all over his body.
After I get up, I take a second to ready myself. This is the first person I have met, and I have already made a wrong impression. I got to fix it, so I bow and say, “HELLO, I AM ORB. IT’S NICE TO ME YOU!”
No response; did I already mess up? But then, I take a second to look up and see that the man is unconscious. I then proceed to go up to him and have a look. From what I can see, he looks very rugged, he has scars all over his body, he is thin but muscly, his hair is brown short, but messy.
Wait, he has been laying in this snow, that can’t be good for him, so I turn him around to look at his body, he is frostbitten across. Shit, this isn’t good. There isn’t any warm water nearby, and I doubt I could get him back to the house. So, my only opinion is to get him down the mountain.
So, I pick him up and start going down the mountain with the man on my back. As I continue going down, I trip and fall; he is heavy, It’s hard for me to carry him, and the weight of the box but not impossible, so I go on, but as I walk, I can see the snow around me becoming thinner, until I feel a small amount of warmth touch my skin, then as I walk its gets slightly warmer and warmer, looking up I see a yellow light in all this snow, it’s the sun. How beautiful.
“Woohoo,” I say as I jump with joy, but due to the man on my back, I fall and land on him. Crap almost forgot about the man. This is still an emergency, so as I continue to walk, I take in the scenery as the sun shines on me.
There is still snow covering the ground, but it’s much lighter than before. There are also patches of frozen grass seeping through the snow. As I continue to walk down, I eventually see a golden tree. My eyes are dazzled with excitement; I can all but guarantee, I am the most excited human currently alive to see a tree.
Still, are trees meant to be gold, and this tree’s leaves are rather large? Maybe this one is just special. While I had that thought, I saw more trees down the way and began to walk toward them. It seems I might be getting closer and closer to civilisation, “It looks like we will be able to patch you up soon. Just hold on.”
Then after walking, I eventually reach a forest full of golden trees, though the snow is still everywhere. But I hear a sound, maybe another human, so I walk towards where I heard the sound, but I don’t see any humans. I see something rather cute and small; I think it’s a scardo.
In Capti’s books, they’re said to be very friendly and loving to humans, and if I correctly remember, they hang around human settlements. It could guide me to humans. Yeah, lucky as it sees me, the scardo starts running towards me, it looks happy. Maybe I will pet it due to all the good fortune it brings me.
So, it runs towards me, but my eyes feel a little itchy so a scratch them, as I open my eyes the scardo is gone, where did it go? Looking around I see to my far right a creature over the body of the scardo biting into it. The animal in question has two legs, and four wings at its side, covered in light blue feathers. It’s a Waptor.
They’re over 200 cm, carnivorous, and extremely fast. Sorry scardo, but I’ve got to run, so at full speed, using all of my strength, I run with the man still on my back, but then I hear a screech and footsteps one after another in rapid succession, it’s chasing me, so I try to use the tree as cover as but then I hear loud sounds behind me the trees are falling. The waptor’s wings aren’t for flying. They’re for chopping their prey into small bits, so they are incredibly sharp.
I run as fast as I can, but I know it’s going to catch up to me, so I guess I have no choice. I throw the man on the snow in front of me and then take the box of things I had wrapped around my waist and hold it in one hand.
I stick out one of my hands, letting the waptor bite into it. Ouch, I scream as tears fall from my eyes, but it took the bait waptor have extreme soft skulls, so one hit to the head it enough to kill them, so as I am about to smash my box into his head an arrow suddenly hits it in the side of the head.
After removing its mouth from my arm, I looked at the dead waptor, and for the first time in my life, I understood why Capti ate meat. “YOU SUCK!” But no time to think about that now; I took the cloth my bag was in and wrapped it around my arm to stop the bleeding.
Now I must find some way to get him out of here with my arm like this fast since all the loud noises we made will attract more predasaurs, so I have to act fast, so as I try to lift the mans body a searing pain appears in my left arm as I fall. Crap, I can’t get him out of here like this. I need to think of something.
“Don’t move.”
Hearing a voice in the heroes song, I suddenly turn my head around and see a little girl smaller than me with long white and gold hair in fur clothes with feathers in her hair pointing a bow and arrow at me.
She fires an arrow which scratches my face. “I said don’t move!”
This must be the person who shot the waptor, I think. Isn’t this sort of a bad situation? It’s very tense; I shouldn’t provoke her, but the man behind wasn’t getting healthier as time passed, so I got to act, and if she wanted to kill me, she would have shot me from a safe distance.
So, I immediate go from a crouched position, to on my knees with my head on the snow and say, “THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME WITH THE WAPTOR,” I glance up at her after I say this and she looks shook. Good, I have broken the tension a bit.
“What are you doing here, and where did you come from,” she asks with her bow still pointed at me.
“I came from high up the mountain, and found this man while walking down, now I am trying to get him somewhere to get him better.”
“You lie. If you were that far up the mountain, you would be over frozen to death.”
“I am immune to the cold, so I can’t freeze to death. See, I don’t have shoes, and I have been walking on the snow,” I say while showing the girl my feet.
“You could have ridden on the back off something, and come from somewhere other than the top. Everyone animals, people freeze to death on top of the mountain without exception.”
“I happen to be the exception, and to be honest, a little girl like you who is younger than me shouldn’t be talking about absolutes. How do you even know they have all died? How many have you seen been killed by the cold.”
Visibly Irritated by what I said, the girl responded, “Fifty.”
“There are ruffly four billion people, so you have seen about 1.25x10^-8 of the population die a one in eighty million that’s not enough to be conclusive.”
“Fractions are evil,” she says as she draws the arrow back.
“Sorry”, I shriek, looks like someone doesn’t like arithmetic, but I shouldn’t be arguing with a kid anyway, something more critical.
So, I return to my bowing position and say, “I’m sorry, that doesn’t matter. The man behind is going to die if you don’t help me, so please help me. You can check him if you don’t believe me.”
She looks like she is contemplating, but eventually says, “Keep your hands where I can see them. I am going to check his body.”
So, as I follow her instruction, she goes up to check the man’s body and a look of worry overtakes her face. She suddenly says, “The frostbite has worsened.”
“Then you will help us.”
“I am sorry I can’t, but the leaves of the tree have hot water in them so that you can use those.”
“But that won’t help if the snow is still around here, and I can’t carry him much further.”
The little girl looks conflicted “It’s against the rules.”
“I will take full responsibility for everything, so please help him.”
“Why are you doing this? From what you said, you just met him.”
“It’s just that I know the only reason most people climb the mountain is that they want to die, and I think that’s just too sad. I am not ok with people killing themselves. It’s a waste in every way you look at it, so please help him. You can even forget about me.”

So as the girl stares, rubbing her head furiously, she screams and says, “Rules exist to help, not to kill!” She takes a thin cloth from around her waist and tells me to put the fabric over my eyes like a blindfold. “Sir, I am going to need you to follow me. I will hold your hand to guide you to my village.”
So, as I start trying to put on the blindfold, I tell her, “My name is Orb. But how are we going to carry the man.”
“I got that covered,” she says as she quickly picks the man.
Dumbfounded by her strength, I hear her shout at me, “HURRY UP,” so as I finally get the blindfold on, I allow the little girl to take my hand and guide me. “Orb repeat this song after me.”
“Why”
“We just have to, no complaining sing loudly as well”, so she starts singing horribly.
My god, my ears now understand how my tongue felt eating all those rotten fruits, and now I have to listen closely and repeat; I would have rathered she shot me. So, while walking, I repeated the song lyrics, while wanting to rip off my ears, but I persisted because the thought that I had just had a proper conversation with someone had given me a lot of strength.
-Break-
“Ok, you can take your blindfold off.”
It barely took any time, though; that may be because her singing was making me slip in and out of consciousness; we also took a ridiculous number of turns, one shortly after another, that, combined with her singing, made me lose all sense of direction. At least we can get this man some help.
So, as I take off my blindfold, I see where on a cliff edge, “So you were trying to kill us.”
“No, look down.”
When I do, I see a small village with Large buildings. “This is my home. We will get your friend patched up here.”
I was seeing all the active people fill me with nothing but excitement.
