Chapter 16: 16 Meeting William Smith Again

“It’s okay, Pepper, just remember he isn’t really dead.”
“Yeah…” She mumbled. 

It took a few minutes, but once Pepper stopped crying, she pried herself from Enzo’s embrace. 

Most people in this type of situation might feel awkward after realizing they just hugged a stranger, but neither of them felt anything of that sort. 

They may have only known each other for a day, but they already felt like great friends and one of the things friends do for each other is offer comfort when needed. 

Pepper wiped her tears and took a deep breath. 

“You should loot them.”

“Oh yeah, I almost forgot I could do that.”
Enzo went to the corpses and looted them both.

Enzo raised his eyebrows at the amount of silvers gained from the player, but then ignored it and moved to the other corpse.

He took those items out of his inventory and gave them to Pepper as that was her kill. 

Both bodies turned into white pixels and dispersed after Enzo looted them. 

“Alright, let’s return to the village now.” Enzo said.

Luckily, the duo didn’t have any more problems on the way back to the village.

When they passed the guards they gave them a nod, which they politely returned back.

‘I’ll see if they have any quests next time I leave the village.’ Enzo made a mental note to himself. 

There weren’t many players walking in and out of the village gates, but there were still plenty on the streets. 

Pepper noticed a few of them were giving her and Enzo odd looks as they were walking.

“Why are they looking at us like that Atlas?”
Enzo looked around to find the players that were giving them looks. 

Some of them had frowns on their faces, while others were avoiding them on the streets. 

‘Is there something wrong with us?’

Enzo looked down at his clothes. 

He and Pepper were wearing the standard brown tunic, pants, and leather shoes that every other player was wearing, but theirs looked a little bit different. 

Pepper and Enzo had blood stains all over their outfits. 

“Hahahaha. Pepper look down at your clothes.”
She did as Enzo said.

“Ohhhhhhh. Hehehehehe”
She joined Enzo in his laughter. 

Neither one of them had any idea that they looked so bloody. 

Enzo couldn’t even imagine what his face looked like, as he assumed there was blood all over that and his hair as well. 

Enzo and Pepper talked about random things until they made it to the plaza in the middle of the village.

Enzo then started looking for William’s stall. 

It took a few minutes to find it, but once he did he took Pepper towards him. 

“Will!” He called out.

William looked up from whatever he was doing with one of the weapons in his shop. 

“Oh! You’re back so soon? I thought you would take a few days at least.”
Enzo smiled at the blacksmith, “So, I think I should have enough money to buy at least one item from your shop now. I also brought a friend if your offer is available to her as well.”
“Of course! Thank you for being kind enough to bring another customer!”

“You’re welcome.” Enzo replied. 

Pepper was busy reading through the quest, so Enzo continued his conversation with the blacksmith alone.

“So, what kind of weapon would you like to purchase?”

“Hmmmm. Do you have any decent swords for under 8 silvers?”
“Yes, in fact, I do.”
Suddenly Pepper finally joined the conversation, “Pffffffttttt. Hahahahahah!”

Enzo looked over to her with a knowing look. He understood exactly why she was laughing. 

“Heheh.” He couldn’t even hold back his own chuckle after thinking about it. 

“...” Naturally Will knew what they were laughing at as well.

“It’s not funny! It was a lapse of judgment!” He shouted. 

Pepper and Enzo were laughing at the quest description that detailed what happened at the blacksmith awards ceremony that caused William Smith to be reduced to a mere market smith. 

He was a well known ameteur blacksmith among the Fae race before the incident, so obviously he was still slightly annoyed about it even though it was his own fault. 

“Sigh.” He could only sigh in defeat. 

After a few minutes, “Are you two done?” Will asked with a frown.

“Hehe, yeah sorry.” Enzo apologized although he still had a large grin on his face. 

“Back to those swords, could you show me some?” Enzo asked. 

“Yes, I’ll show you my best swords for 8 silvers. Keep in mind swords like these would usually cost between 20 and 30 gold coins, so you are really getting a deal here.”
“I’m sorry but I am ignorant about the currency of this world, what is the coin conversion for bronze, silver, and gold coins?” Enzo asked.

“It’s not a problem, 100 bronze coins make 1 silver coin, 100 silver coins makes 1 gold coin and 10,000 gold coins makes 1 platinum coin.”
“Why is the gold to platinum number so high?” Pepper asked.

“Because platinum coins are only for the convenience of the rich and wealthy. It is very impractical to have more than 100,000 coins in one vault, so it helps to save space and it is much easier to transport.”
“Ah, okay that makes sense.” She responded. 

Enzo nodded in understanding as well.

Will then laid out 4 different swords for Enzo to choose from. 

He inspected the stats of each one by touching their handles. 

The first sword was a normal length sword with a silver blade and a brown leather wrapped hilt.

“Wow!” Enzo heard Will say the swords would be more valuable than he was offering them for, but this sword was just too good. 

If his hunch was correct, the stat boost could be activated just by fighting an enemy of the same species of an enemy that you have fought before.
