Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Escape

"Sorry Kid." This was said by Tony after learning their circumstances and seeing Liam who was currently bruised and injured while currently building a rocket right now.

They were currently stuck in a room where Tony was currently still alive by using a car battery to his chest as he saw Liam building a weapon while the Yinsen was explaining the situation to him.

To keep the Terrorists happy and occupied, Liam was building weapons for them while having to pacify them to not kill Tony as he is important as an inventor and a hostage.

Unfortunately, he had to get beaten up just to let them off with some benefits and the life of Tony, Liam was fine with it but Yinsen felt pain after having Liam settle their situation for them.

"You could have let me talk to them, trying to pacify them since I've been here for long."

"No Doc. These kinds of people won't be swayed with just words and tend to be suspicious if we don't act with their demands. They saw me as a hidden threat and I only followed through with their demands by letting Tony go free if we build them a weapon they want."

"What?!" This made Tony feel shocked as he didn't expect Liam to build weapons in exchange for his life.

"Kid, you still have a future. You can't just trade your life just to save someone else." Yinsan stared at Liam who felt like seeing a kid being so used to this which he was confused considering Liam was only a kid.

Tony just stood there, silently. Seeing that not only did he cause this to happen to him, even with the warning his friend gave but also dragged a kid with him in this situation.

Plus, he also felt in debt since this kid had saved his life twice as well.

"Doc. I'm used to this. Compared to the past, this is bearable than the past I've been."

Liam still remembers the time where he still lives an orphaned life of struggling in the streets after losing his mom. Having to tolerate living off the garbage or risking his life for just leftover meals, this was a bit more bearable considering he still gets decent meals than nothing at all.

Tony now felt like he slowly realizes the other life people live compared to the luxuries he had, seeing Liam who was bruised and injured yet still giving a playful smile. Not only that, he stared at the things he saw and realize all the things his company made, the weapons they had built, and remembered how he had just almost died by the weapon he created. A burden was placed and the responsibilities began to weigh him down.

"Oh? Is Mr. Stark realizing his faults of the things he made?"

He then turned to see Liam grinning at him, seeing that he was in a pathetic state after realizing the mistake he has done to the world.

"Mr. Stark. You can't always be stuck in the past and see the errors in your face, the weapons that almost killed you. Geniuses have setbacks but they improve upon their mistakes."

This wasn't just some random BS Liam spoke, it was the experience he built after the mistakes he made in the past.

During his training with Wade, Liam got overconfident after landing a surprise blow to Wade after getting distracted as his ego began to grow. Thinking that his efforts were probably enough to fight and beat any opponents he would face.

But his worldview and arrogance got the better of him once Wade grew serious and he was almost got his head drilled when Wade put a gun to his forehead after his body was slammed to the ground after getting arrogant.

This changes Liam's thinking that even if he had grown strong, he still can't act like he can win every battle that might cost his life if Wade didn't hold back and ended him right there.

"Just try to see things from other's perspectives and think hard about how they've come to terms with their life. We might not have the same lives but we ended up in the same place."

Liam places the rocket by his side with a bit of difficulty as he then took out a small device that Yinsen still couldn't understand how it works but Tony on the other hand.

"I-is that...."

"I've been working in your company for a while now so I should understand how this thing works okay."

'.....Little Tony....heh...Those guys weren't kidding...' Seeing Liam's intellect firsthand, Tony felt like he was seeing himself in the past. The time where he still has the love to build stuff yet seeing the man he had become, he felt the lone destitute of having been alone for something he can't have.

Liam can't help but turn to Tony as he became wide and quickly turn back and felt like he senses something familiar with him.

'W-what the hell? Since when did I see Tony in myself? No no no. He and I live in far different lives that we don't feel the same at all.'

While both of them were just standing there silently, Yinsen saw something in them and smiled.

"I guess both of you have something in common after all."

Liam and Tony turned to Yinsen as they were bewildered by what he had said. Only Tony with his Ego still high up just laughed and thought that he and Liam are just different, both in wealth and their intellect.

"Because both of us have our own insecurities? Is that right Doc?" Liam didn't hide it and told his answer truthfully. Making Both Tony and even Yinsen feel like Liam is more open to himself with others.

"I don't know what Tony usually feels alone when he has everything he has in his hands but I usually feel like the things I have will eventually be lost if I don't treasure the moments with the things close to me. I already lost a mother, a father figure, and eventually my friends down the line but that doesn't stop me from working hard."

Yinsen felt like Liam matured a lot growing up and had responsibilities to the things he had and lost.

Tony on the other hand, just felt like Liam was someone that had embraced his loneliness yet at the same time was looking into his future at the same time.

After Liam felt like he had finished building the Arc Reactor and was satisfied with it as he tossed it to Tony. Liam knew that his promise to the Leader was going to backfire on him eventually but he isn't going out there without a fight.

"So? Let's make a weapon for him." He smiles as he turns to Tony who was confused as both of them were staring at him. Yet they weren't looking at him but instead of the mini Arc Reactor as he knew what they meant and smiled.
