What would you be like in a fantasy world?

Surfing the internet to kill time like any other day, I stumbled upon a peculiar site.

It prompted that single question which led me through a survey of multiple vague ones that, supposedly, would generate what I would be like as a character in another world.

To escape my monochromatic life, fantasy was my option. Be it reading, watching, or even playing anything painted with a fantasy palette. So this website grabbed my attention rather quickly as my imagination got to work after each question I answered.

  • Do you fear death?

Long past that fear, I pressed on No.

  • Do you wish for a short life then?

Multiple options appeared, but I picked No, I want a long life — Although I felt nothing about death or life, I still preferred a long life for my character in a fantasy world. There definitely would be a lot of exciting stuff to do. That needed time.

A few more questions followed,

  • Blood and pain?

It was vague, but I felt as if I was selecting gore settings. Maybe this site was picking candidates for beta testing a new game?

I entertained that thought as I clicked on I Hate pain but like blood — I hated taking damage, that's why I almost always took a balanced build in RPG games. But I loved blood, who would disable gore in a game where you are meant to slice enemies?

Aha, the next question hinted at the preferred playstyle, I chose balanced. Other options had some things like 'magic only, melee only, etc..' It sure felt like RPG character builds.

I was starting to expect a game e-key after all is done — Colors returned to my face, I haven't smiled in a while.

After a few more random queries, the site prompted that I'm almost done.

  • Do you regret your actions?

I nearly fell into remembering the past, so I shifted my focus to think about the imaginary game I would be playing — I couldn't click I have no regrets. I almost always do in any game without the option to respec skills. So I clicked on yes. I don't even know why I'm thinking deeply about this.

  • Are you the hero of good? or the spawn of evil?

This one felt like a major question. Like those dialogue options at the start of the game that would come back at you in the end — Although I liked going on a grand quest of saving the world (or destroying it), I ultimately clicked on Neither. I most enjoyed game freedom — A white canvas and colors, not paint and numbered shapes to fill.

  • How would you tip the scales of life?

It was the second to the last question, I was getting excited as this felt like deciding the difficulty.

I read the options: All the way to my side, favorable for me, fair, unfavorable to me, unfair — I picked favorable for me, I always played on easy mode in any game, I like having a good time exploring everything it had to offer than bother with struggling against normal enemies. Though too easy and it would turn boring.

The site re-loaded and the last question appeared, the entire theme of the website changed, and the query had some red. I gulped without realizing it.

  • Are you bored with your life?  (Warning: picking yes will result in experiencing firsthand the character tailored by your choices. Choose carefully, this is irreversible.

I was excited, the warning was a clear hint explaining the flavor text question. If I click yes I will at worst get to see my character and at best get a key for an unreleased game. Though I was skeptical about it being irreversible. Anyways —

I clicked yes.

The lamp went off, and my apartment turned dead silent.

That's what I assume at least, but I have no way of confirming that as I stand here.

...Naked in a cave.
