Chapter 11: Mission Start

Io is in the second apartment, the one where he, Kuroka, Aki, Denji and Power live in. Io is outside on the patio, smoking a cigarette. The door to their bedroom opens and Kuroka walks out, wearing a Public Safety suit.

The suit hugs her figure, especially her chest. 

Kuroka adjusts the tie and rolls her cuffs a couple times. "Do I really have to wear this?" She asks through the open glass door.

"Well, your officially working for the Public Safety now, so yes." Io says as he lets a puff of smoke out. "But you'll mainly answer to me."

Kuroka hums. "It's kinda tight."

Io flicks his cigarette off the balcony and walks inside and shuts the glass door. "You'll just have to deal with it." He walks past her and towards the door. "If you want a new one, you'll have to pay for it yourself."  

Io opens the door and looks back to Kuroka. "Aki or someone from Public Safety is coming to pick you up, you'll be working with them today, while I'm dealing with something with Makima. Do you understand?"

Kuroka nods. "Yes, sir."

"Good, kitty." He walks out and closes the door behind him.

Makima and Io are sitting on a couch across from the Yakuza gang boss, with his members standing behind the two devils.

"We've got guests from Public Safety." The gang boss says to his boys. "Get the good stuff for them."

"Thank you for your cooperation." Makima says to the gang boss.

Io just stays silent and he crosses his arms with an indifferent smile on his face.

"Well, I heard about our younger guys popping off in Tokyo." The Yakuza boss says. "I figure I owe you any answers I've got. I want you to understand that it wasn't on my orders." He sets a picture on the table between them. It's a photo of Sawatari. "From what I've heard, this Sawatari woman's the one behind it. She was the contact that hooked these kids into deals involving the Gun Devil."

"What kind of deals?" Makima asks.

"They give the Gun Devil 20,000 yen, and they get guns and ammo in exchange. Fancy that, devils needing money."

'That's not a lot of money.' Io thinks to himself. 'Why would that bastard even need with money.'

The Yakuza boss leans back on his couch. "They're not so different from us, after all.

Makima looks to Io and he sets a blank piece of paper on the table. "I need you to write down the names of everyone in your organization that has a contract with the Gun Devil." She instructs the Yakuza boss.

"Yeah, no problem. Throw them in the slammer for a while, give them something to think about."

"I'll also need the names from other families, as well. Not just yours." The Yakuza boss looks to her and she just smiles at him.

The boss leans forward and grabs a cigar out of a box. "Miss, you're not getting the big picture here. If I did that and the other families found out, it'd mean war. It'd be real stupid." He grabs a cigar cutter and cuts the tip of the cigar.

 "It's for the safety of the public." Makima states. "I'm requesting your cooperation.

The boss lights his cigar and takes a couple puffs from it then he looks to Makima. "You ever heard the term 'necessary evil' before, miss? What happens if we end up wiping each other out? All it does is open up Japan to foreign mafia. I'm not gonna deny that we get up to bad business, but the Chinese and Soviet mobs make us look like angels, and we're the ones keeping them away." He takes a puff from his cigar and blows the smoke into Makima's and Io's face.

Io narrows his eyes at the Yakuza boss.

The boss continues. "Just like how Devil Hunters keep people safe from devils... The Yakuza are keeping Japan safe from foreigners. Though I hear there's a lot of uneducated types in your line of work, so maybe you just don't get it." The other gang members laugh.

Io picks up a small brown paper bag off the floor and sets it onto the table. The laughing stops.

"It's gonna take more than a bribe to get me to snitch, lady." The boss says.

"This isn't money." Makima says as she motions to the bag. "It's a collection of things that belong to associates of everyone here. Parents, grandparents, siblings, lovers, wives... Their eyes."

"Eyes?" The boss grabs the bag and opens it, and inside are indeed, human eyeballs. He panics and drops the bag onto the table.

"Please, relax. Public Safety has someone who can return these safely. In exchange for your cooperation, I can introduce you."

A gang member puts a hand on Makima's shoulder and goes to punch her. "You bitch-" 

But he stops as Io's stinger is suddenly right in front of his left eye. It shakes a little, sounding like a metallic rattle. The gang member takes a step back. 

Io's stinger shakes more and makes a loud rattle sound, scaring the other gang members. Io's smile grows as he takes in the smell of fear.

Makima stands up. "When you talk about 'necessary evil,' you're using that term to justify the evil acts you commit." The Yakuza boss stares at Makima in fear. "Society doesn't need your excuses. It's not a true necessary evil unless the nation itself is holding the leash and maintaining control."

Outside of a hotel Denji, Power, Kobeni and Kuroka are standing together. Waiting for orders.

Kobeni is slightly freaking out. "I wanna go home." 

"So why don't you, then?" Denji asks. "After all that training I did... I'm gonna slaughter Sideburns Man!"

Power smiles and points to her head. "Our minds have been honed, after all!" She puts her hands on her hips. "This shall prove a simple matter!" She laughs and Denji yawns.

Kuroka sighs in annoyance. "Now I know what Io has to deal with all the time."

"I hate this." Kobeni mubmles.

Aki is watching them from the side.

Kuroka stretches her arms out and adjusts her tie.

"Let's go!" Aki says to the group and they follow him into the underground garage of the hotel. 

The group walks into the garage and they see lots of zombies.

Power laughs and runs ahead are starts killing zombies.

Kuroka walks forward while swinging her hand back and fourth. "What a foul smell." A zombie reaches it hand out towards her and she spin kicks its head off. "Don't touch me."

Kuroka swipes her hand to the left and cut a zombie into thirds with her sharp claws. Kuroka jumps up and kicks her legs out, knocking the heads off two zombies.

Kuroka lands on the ground and she notices a door leading to a stair well. She walks over to it while slicing apart any zombies that come her way.

She opens the door and looks up the large stairwell. "I just have a feeling..." She begins to walk up the stairs till she reaches the 13th floor. "Hmmm..."

Kuroka opens the door to the 13th floor and walks into the hallway.

"Stop right there!" A voice yells from down the hall.

Kuroka looks up and sees three men aiming guns at her.

"Outta my way!" A familiar female voice yells and the heads of the three men fall to the floor as the bodies fall it reveals that Scythe was standing behind them, with a bloody knife in her hand. "Kitty Cat!" Scythe laughs. "Are you back for rounds 2?"

Kuroka growls and she gets in a battle ready stance.

"Ok, let's dance!" Scythe girl yells and she slits her throat with the tiny scythe on her finger.
