Yu Qingshi Straightened His Back (1)
Jiang Xiaoman stopped. She looked at Ye Jiajia and then at the teacher1, trying to figure out what was going on.
The teacher was a fierce person in his forties who shouted full of energy whenever he was scolding someone.
Although Ye Jiajia wanted to be a cool sister, in reality she was soft as tofu. The teacher was very fierce and she was really frightened. Most importantly, there was a disciplinary committee member upperclassman next to her, and teachers and classmates were passing by her side in a hurry.
They were all looking at her; she was so embarrassed!
Wuu wuu wuu!
Ye Jiajia cried loudly, her heart broken to pieces.
After listening to the teacher, Jiang Xiaoman finally understood what had happened.
Ye Jiajia actually modified her school uniform on her own.
Ye Jiajia, Ye Jiajia. Although the school uniform was a bit ugly, but you are too bold!
“Student, don’t stay here. Go to the classroom for the morning reading.” Such a model student like Jiang Xiaoman was the teachers’ favorite so it was hard to scold her. He could only let her leave quickly.
Ye Jiajia was still in a squatting position, looking up at her with blurry eyes.
Jiang Xiaoman sighed and flung her school bag to her shoulder, taking out a palm-sized English vocabulary book and calmly saying, “Teacher, I will talk to her.”
The teacher hesitated for a while and let her continue.
Jiang Xiaoman stuffed the English vocabulary book into Ye Jiajia’s hands and whispered, “Read it. Read the first chapter, then move on to the second one. As long as you read it loudly and confidently, no one will know that you are in detention.”
Ye Jiajia took the booklet into her hands in a daze, and whispered, “Really? They won’t tell me to do self-reflection? People won’t talk about me? Look, they’re all watching me!”
“Really. They might even praise you.”
Ye Jiajia was convinced.
Anyway, there was nothing else she could do right now than to blindly believe her.
“My, my, my.
name, name, name.
is, is, is.
clok, clok, clock.
…”2
Jiang Xiaoman patted her shoulder comfortably and left.
The teacher also looked at Ye Jiajia with pleased eyes, and his gaze was much kinder.
Even when she was being punished, she didn’t forget to practice her vocabulary. This was a child who could be taught, a talent that could be nurtured, someone who enjoyed learning. Very good!
So Ye Jiajia also began to read more excitedly.
Like Jiang Xiaoman said, after she finished reading the first part, she read the second part again. Read, read and read. As long as she read loud enough, no one would have known that she had just been scolded!
She was still a good kid!
“Look at her, she is so hardworking.”
“Yes, our English teacher said that some students would suddenly practice their English conversation under the national flag or in the dining hall.”
“It looks very effective.”
“Why don’t we try it tomorrow, too?”
“Ok.”
Ye Jiajia finally stopped crying.
Jiang Xiaoman was right. As long as she spoke confidently and stayed calm, no one would know what had happened!
As for this modified school uniform, she would just stop wearing it tomorrow!
Finally, the morning lesson was over.
Ye Jiajia could finally escape. After admitting her fault to the teacher, she quickly fled the scene.

Her throat had become hoarse.
She entered the classroom with a sad face, feeling very aggrieved.
Zhang Xinhua didn’t know what had happened. Seeing that her eyes and nose were red, he kindly donated the soy milk that he had bought after a long queue, “Here, for you…”
Ye Jiajia gave him a grateful look. After moisturizing her parched throat, she ran to Jiang Xiaoman and cried.
“Wuu wuu wuu, Xiaoman, wuu wuu wuu. I was scared to death…… Originally, I still wanted to try out those braids. Coupled with the new school uniform, it would’ve definitely looked really cool. But the teacher was too fierce! Catch this, catch that, he catches us for everything!”
Jiang Xiaoman figuratively poured cold water on her, “If you do it again, it would be useless even if you read the English textbook from front to back.”
“Why?”
She’s still asking why?
Jiang Xiaoman smiled mysteriously, “Because when I was younger, I also got called to the office once before because of my appearance.”
“Oh……”
Ye Jiajia had to dispel this terrible idea and didn’t try breaking the rules again.
–
There was a self-study class at noon.
The math teacher immediately snatched the opportunity, and printed a copy of exercises for the students to do. As the representative of the mathematics class, Jiang Xiaoman went to the teacher’s office to take the exercises, and then returned to distribute them to everyone.
The distribution was handed out from table to table, and there was an accident when she got to Zhang Xinhua.
In the classroom that was originally quiet, with only the rustle of writing and the sound of pages turning… an electronic warning sound suddenly rang.
It was an electronic ringtone.
The students in the classroom all raised their heads and looked in the direction of Zhang Xinhua. Their eyes were full of curiosity.
So bold!
How dare he bring electronic products to school!?
And listening to the sound, it seemed to be a cellphone’s ringtone?
Aiyo, it was a disaster.
There was only one possible outcome, he would definitely get an endless round of scolding, and would have to write a long self-reflection under the national flag.
Zhang Xinhua was once again forced to accept his classmates’ saluting looks.
In the first place, he was already a scaredy cat. His forehead had now already been soaked and he looked really afraid.
He was very nervous.
Ye Jiajia glanced at him and whispered, “Hurry up and turn it off! It’s all over if the teacher comes to check and finds it!”
Zhang Xinhua trembled and felt around the storage compartment of his desk, but he was very scared as he was being watched by so many people!
What if someone ratted him out and secretly exposed what he did!?
What to do? What to do? What to do!?!?
Zhang Xinhua, who lacked worldly experiences, panicked.
Could he pretend that it wasn’t his? Or just pretend that he didn’t hear anything?
Wuu wuu wuu, anyways, it’s not his! It had nothing to do with him! As long as he stayed calm, he could act like it wasn’t his!
The more nervous he became, the more he trembled. He couldn’t hold the phone well and naturally didn’t manage to turn it off.
Footnote:
1. The wording here refers to what could be translated as Dean of Education/Teaching, but it feels like a mouthful and I don’t think the term is commonly used anyways, so we’ll stick to just Teacher.
2. The ones in italic were written in English in the raws. Clock was typo’ed as clok.
