Sitting before the lamp in the study, Roel stared at the letter in his hand as he slowly translated the message of the letter. Fortunately, it was fairly concise, so there wasn’t any difficulty in translating it. Roel could interpret every single word on the message, but it hardly made sense to him once he strung them all together.
This was the translated version of the letter:
「To the Fief Lord
In the middle of the fourth month, I shall be arriving at the Twohorn Port with the egg(s).
The Queen」
Roel stared at the content he had translated on another piece of paper contemplatively, not saying a word for the long while. Alicia, who was peeking at the letter from behind his shoulders, was a little puzzled too.
“Big brother Roel, what does this mean?”
“Let me take a look again.”
Roel proceeded to check the content of the letter two more times, but there didn’t appear to be anything wrong with the translation. He moved on to examine the letter and the envelope carefully, but other than the gold wax seal, there weren't any other clues.
In the end, he put down the letter and envelope and tried to piece together the clues he had gathered thus far.
Fief lord, egg, and queen.
Based on these clues, the first thing he could think of was… the royal family was seeking offspring?
Oh lord, this letter can’t be part of some royal booty call, could it?
Roel remembered the shelf of perverted diaries on the Labyrinth Villa, and he couldn’t help but wonder if this letter was pointing toward yet another mysterious fetish of one of his ancestors. An egg and a queen…
This can’t be some sort of erotic play, can it?
All sorts of dirty thoughts flooded Roel’s mind, causing his face to redden. He could sense Alicia’s gaze on him, so he quickly shook his head and told himself to calm down.
No no no, that shouldn’t be. It’s already weird enough to find erotic diaries from 200 years back. Surely, I can’t be so lucky as to find erotic letters from several hundred years back too, right?
The letter only mentioned ‘egg(s)’ anyway, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be a human’s. Also, there’s a mention of the Twohorn Port, so it should be much more probable that they are referring to fish eggs here. Perhaps, my ancestor just wants to eat some caviar or something.
But again, what’s with the person signing off as ‘The Queen’ though? Is she the queen of the caviar industry or something?
“Fief Lord and Queen, the way that they address each other so formally makes it sound like some sort of nickname.”
“Hm? You’re right. Perhaps they are alluding to something else.”
Roel blinked contemplatively for a moment, and he felt that what Alicia said made sense. The letter was addressed to ‘Fief Lord’, which made Roel assume that it referred to one of the preceding patriarchs of his Ascart House, but that might not necessarily be the case.
It was more likely for ‘Fief Lord’ and ‘Queen’ to be code names for members within a certain organization, for a letter between a real fief lord and queen would never be signed off in such an ambiguous manner. Nobles did care a lot about social etiquette after all.
Given the Ascart House’s position in the Theocracy, it was unlikely that it would just join any organization. Assuming that the Ascart House was truly involved in an organization, it was likely that the organization was either political or factional in nature. In other words, it could either be a gathering of nobles and officials, or a transcendent organization.
Over the years, the Ascart House had shown no political ambitions at all. It had been obediently staying put in its position, not starting any waves, that it actually started declining a little. It should be safe to strike off the first possibility.
It was more likely that the Ascart House had joined a transcendent organization, and it was working under the alias of ‘Fief Lord’ with someone codenamed ‘Queen’. Most likely, they had come to some sort of agreement regarding the ‘egg(s)’, so they promised to meet at Twohorn Port to deal with the goods.
From the wear and tear of the paper, Roel could roughly discern that the envelope had traveled a fairly long distance before reaching the Ascart Fiefdom, possibly having to cross the seas even.
“The insignia on the wax seal does have an anchor after all, though I must say that’s quite an odd combination to have it go along with a rose… Wait a moment, golden rose?”
Staring at the insignia, Roel suddenly widened his eyes in astonishment. He realized that he had seen this insignia somewhere else before.
“Isn’t the golden rose the insignia of the Sorofya House?”
“Sorofya House? Big brother Roel, are you saying that this letter is addressed to the Sorofya House?”
Hearing the family name that had left her with a headache recently, Alicia’s eyes narrowed. She stared at the old letter on the table, and all of a sudden, she felt that finding the letter wasn’t really a good thing anymore.
Can I still place it back where I took it out from now?
This was what Alicia was thinking in her mind. Roel, on the other hand, pondered for a while before shaking his head.
“It’s hard to say for sure. There’s an anchor beside the golden rose, and there are far too many organizations that use a rose in their logo—just the Theocracy already has several noble houses who do so. It’s still too early to draw a conclusion.”
“I see, that’s good…”
“Miss Charlotte from the Sorofyas is coming by in two days’ time. I should just ask her then.”
Alicia’s smile froze in place. She lowered her head and covered her face in regret, lamenting over her foolish decision. She was hoping to receive Roel’s compliment, but somehow… she ended up providing a common topic for the two of them.
She stared at the black-haired boy in front of her, who was completely focused on the letter, and in an act of willfulness, she stretched her hand forth and covered his eyes.
“Alicia?”
“Big brother Roel, you aren’t allowed to read it anymore. It’s time to sleep!”

“Ah? A-alright, let’s go and sleep then. It’s indeed getting late now.”
Roel put down the letter and cast a simple spell named ‘Paper Preservation Spell’ over it. It was the spell that librarians made a living out of. He had specially made a trip over to the royal library in order to learn the newest version of this spell. There were simply too many records in the Ascart House, and some of them were confidential, so he couldn’t possibly hire another transcendent to do it for him.
However, what Roel didn’t expect was that this simple spell actually piqued the interest of the silver-haired girl standing behind him.
“Big brother Roel, I wish to learn this spell!”
“You want to learn the Paper Preservation Spell?”
“Yes! I’ll be able to practice it on the books in the study whenever I have time while helping you out a little.”
“S-sure. Speaking of which, you seem to be quite fond of these simple spells. You wanted to learn the Lullaby Spell too.”
“Of course! My goal is to be a good wife, so it’s only natural for me to learn these simple spells to help my future husband.”
A slight blush colored Alicia’s cheeks. Despite her overwhelming talents as a transcendent, it turned out that she had surprisingly traditional values. In her view, a good wife should learn some day-to-day spells, but the resources that Carter provided her lacked such stuff.
She would often practice her spells only when Roel was out, but nevertheless, there would still be traces of her spells lingering inside the manor. Roel would always find some hints of simple spells lying around.
After arranging a time for Roel to teach Alicia the new spell, the two of them parted with one another to wash up and prepare for bed. But for some reason, Alicia didn’t come by even after Roel waited for her on the bed for quite some time.
“Could it be that she has already fallen asleep?”
“Young master, shall I head over to take a look?”
“No, there’s no need for it. Let’s not disturb her if she’s already resting,” said Roel with a smile.
Despite Alicia’s mature appearance, she would still show hints of childishness from time to time, and he found the contrast between the two sides of her very adorable.
“Alright, I shall be going to sleep too.”
Roel shook his head as he instructed the servants to turn off the lights. It didn’t take long for him to drift off to dreamland after the busy day he had.
But, shortly after he fell asleep, a silvery silhouette silently appeared before the moonlit window.
It was as if the beauty of the silvery moon was embodied in the form of a mortal; her glistening body looked incredibly alluring. Her ruby eyes shone brightly amidst her darkness. There was a thin silver veil she had summoned using her mana cloaking her body.
Under the faint light of the moon, she gazed quietly upon her fast asleep lover on the bed, and she felt an urge to call out and awaken him.
However, after a few deep breaths, she slowly shook her head. She was confident in her looks, but she felt that it was beneath her to obtain what she wanted through such a manner. She knew that Roel’s love for her was pure, devoid of any vile desires.
There were times she wished that Roel could be sexually attracted to her, but at the same time, her pride disallowed her from turning this into a relationship built on lust. The bond they shared didn’t come easily, so it was even more important for her to cherish it.
“… And it’s so embarrassing to be seen by big brother Roel. I feel like I would die of shame.”
Alicia swiftly morphed back into the obedient child that Roel was familiar with.
She carefully climbed on his bed and turned his body upward before staring at his face in a daze.
The reason why she dared to do so was not because she was succumbing to her own desires, but that she knew that Roel wouldn’t wake up at all.
Perfection Origin Attribute.
This Origin Attribute was the manifestation of Alicia’s bloodline ability, and it belonged to her and her alone. In a sense, it was similar to Roel’s Crown.
The Origin Attribute didn’t belong to any existing religions or cults, so Alicia didn’t face any trouble with it. Similar to how Roel had to continue reading historical records in order to grow, Alicia’s Perfection also had its own unique growth method.
The first method was impeccability, both in appearance and in talent. A person with the Perfection Origin Attribute would have to work hard in her studies, her decorum, and her looks, so as to maintain a perfect appearance before others.
But these came easily for Alicia.
The very core of the Silverash Child Bloodline was the creation of a perfect being, so impeccability was not too far off of a pursuit for Alicia. Her bloodline was in perfect resonance with the Perfection Origin Attribute, allowing her to constantly grow. That was also the reason why her strength suddenly surged forth.
Of course, it wasn’t just that. She had another trump card as well.
The concept of ‘Perfection’ differed from person to person, and Alicia viewed her ‘Perfection’ as being the perfect younger sister and perfect wife to Roel. Her every interaction with Roel was allowing her to grow.
And right now, she was using her spell to grant Roel a perfect dream. Unless someone else other than Alicia approached Roel right now, he would continue sleeping peacefully. This was a spell that she had specially created in order to ensure that he would get plenty of sleep every day.
However, she was using it for a different purpose today.
“Forgive me, Lord Brother,” murmured Alicia in guilt.
With trembling hands, she slowly unbuttoned Roel’s pajamas. Heat rushed up to her face, and she quickly took a few deep breaths in order to cool herself down. Thinking about the threat that lay before her, she firmed up her determination before leaning down to tackle Roel’s neck.
